It had been a shit day for Levi. Hell even a shit week to begin with. He had snapped at several people before finally being able to calm down and well now he was a mute. He wasn’t really quite sure where he was wandering off to but he needed a place to be alone at the moment. A place where he won’t have to deal with anyone. Pushing open the creaky door Levi’s eyebrows arched up as his eyes widened feeling like he probably had just walked in on something he shouldn’t have. “Uhm– Uh–” Levi was barely able to get something out as he let go of the door handle once he shut the door and rested his head against the door. Idiot, idiot, idiot. He had thought to himself

He’s almost done doing one of the room checks for today, after almost thirty minutes of rummaging around he has managed to discover a sharpnel which was enough to make him frown. Security seems to have been so loose lately and it’s something that certainly needs to be brought up to the head of this hospital. Just when Rooney is about to pocket the sharp object, he notices the door being swung open before closed again and he frowns. He’s caught a glimmer of who it is on the other side. Isn’t he one of the new patients? “Levi?” He calls out. “Is everything okay?”

He was a staff member. Feeling his mouth dry a little at the realization, he thought he had gotten himself tangled in possible horde of questions but it turned out the other male seemed to be civil and not as potruding. Joshua wasn’t sure what he would say if he started questioning his reasons to be out, the real reasons. He couldn’t stand his room. “Absolutely. It’ll take a few minutes or half an hour at most.” He said, giving a slight smile. “It was just getting too stuffy in my room.”

Truth be told Rooney has seen that reaction too many times before. It’s a shame so many patients are so intimidated by the staff even though he’s sure none of them ever truly meant any harm. They can be harsh, yes but they’re doing it for the other’s good. Hoping he could at least make this one feel more at ease, Rooney gives a soft smile. “That sounds good. Need to bring anything before we go and where exactly would you like to go again?”

“So I was wondering if you’d like take a little walk with me? I know it’s pretty late but I could use the fresh air to help me sleep.” Joshua offered as he took a sip of his lukewarm coffee. The night was less scorching than usual, it just seemed like the perfect time for a quick stroll.

Rooney has to consider the question for a moment - it’s not really his place to chaperon patients to safety outside the med room but the orderlies seem to be preoccupied with other tasks. Huh. There is no harm in letting someone get a fresh intake of air as long as they’re watched. “Yeah, of course. I’ll be with you though and you can’t stay out there for too long. Curfew’s up soon.”

“Right.” To be honest, she didn’t really want to hear are you alrights, didn’t want to delve into what she’d been feeling or not feeling anymore; it just felt like a meaningless waltz when asked by strangers, but less painful at least. They wouldn’t know whatever it was that she was trying to shroud and there was something a bit comforting about that. “I’m fine, just tired. Are you supposed to be out here? Lots of busy-ness in there.”  

“That’s okay. Everyone has everything covered and I was allowed to take a break.” He explains, nodding his head. His shift will get busy again later anyway. “Did you have any visitors today?”

“You should probably go inside.” She’d been sitting on a bench near the entrance for almost two hours now–not truly knowing why, she thought, maybe just to remind herself where it all started here, the crisp grass, the cladness of her sweater when it became too warm–that fucking tree she’d always wanted to climb on. There were only nine days left, and Heather wasn’t sure if she wanted to memorize or forsake everything altogether. “I’m not exactly the funnest person to spend time with right now.”

“That’s okay. I’m not exactly here looking for fun or anything.” He’s taking a break, having worked non stop for the last four hours without break has begun to take a toll on him and he wanted to breathe in some fresh air. Knowing having a smoke near a patient is a big no-no, Rooney settles with ambience-watching. “Are you alright though?”

Cameron didn’t recognise the man conversing with him, but it was refreshing to see a new face every now and then, if he had more energy Cam probably would’ve found some way to mess with him but he just wasn’t in the right frame of mind. “Just thinking myself into an existential crisis.” He shrugged, nonchalantly, wondering whether the stranger had heard him singing. Not that he cared but he didn’t have the best voice. 

“I do that too. On a daily basis actually.” He doesn’t know if he should touch on his singing knowing that it can be personal to certain people but he thought it was quite refreshing to hear. This young man seems a bit detached and the nurse can’t help himself but wonder why. “How long have you been here?”

“Well we need to know why you threw up. Come on, Dawsyn. Don’t be so difficult.”

Jessey hated this place already, even after just stepping through the door. She glanced over at her sister, eyes narrowed. “This is - fucking wrong.” She muttered, reaching up and carding her fingers through her hair, pushing it back from her face. Everything about this was wrong; their mother wouldn’t approve.

This went against everything they believed in - the church of Scientology was extremely anti-psychiatry and their older brother being held here almost felt like a betrayal, even though he wasn’t a part of the church. Jacey returned the glance, giving her sister’s hand a squeeze before they both approached someone. “Excuse me - we need some help, please.”

He turns around when he hears the girl’s voices, a bit surprised to see the similarities. Rooney has been working all day and he thought this may’ve been hallucination until he reminds himself he’s taken his medication early this morning. They look young. He can’t help but feel more urgency to make sure they will be guided and watched even though he has no idea who they’re looking for. He approaches them with a smile on his face. “What can I help you with?”

Cameron sat on the grass, staring out a the garden. He was admittedly a little lost in his thoughts and didn’t want to be outside, it was too hot for his liking but something his therapist had said about getting outside, not letting himself stay cooped up in doors had stuck out. And so out he wondered, into the sunny garden. His fingers mindlessly picked at the grass beneath him as he hummed gently to himself, the humming turned into the tune of a personal favourite song and then developed into the lyrics and so, quietly on the grassy knoll, Cam sung to himself. “There are things that used to make me smile. One of them was you for just a little while. You left me for dead so far away, I replaced you with fear and shame.You’ll be happy on the day I die..”

He hadn’t noticed the other occupant of the garden approaching so it startled him slightly when they walked by. “Do you want something?” He muttered before looking up to see who had interrupted the quiet. 

He’s filled with growing exhaustion as he walks around the front yard, the sun is too hot for his liking but right now it’s better than being inside and being handed another pile of paperworks. Sure, Rooney is a dilligent you male who likes to make sure his work is perfect but there are times where all he wants to do is take some fresh air and this is one of those times. He has considered lighting up a smoke though refrains at last minute, thinking it would bring trouble to his reputation. Hands in his pockets, he begins to lurk around until he hears someone singing quietly. Rooney smiles a little but tries not to disturb until he’s done. “Not really. Just needed some air. How are you doing?”

“What happened? Maybe we should go to the medic room.”

“There’s nothing to suspect, fuck,” she said, sitting down and crossing her arms over her chest. “Why can’t you people just leave me alone?”

“Can’t be too careful.” He says with a sigh as he approaches her closer. “I just want to make sure you’re okay. Were you throwing up back there? Are you feeling nauseous?”

“What do you think happens in bathrooms? I don’t need any help, I’m pretty sure I can drink water and sit down on my own, I’ve been doing it since I was ten months old.”

“I’m serious.” He adds more sterness to his voice. “You don’t just walk out of the bathroom looking like you’re about to pass out and expect us not to suspect anything. Sit down, Dawsyn.”

“I’m fine, Jesus Christ on a stick. A girl can’t use the bathroom without there being something wrong with her?” she asked in annoyance as her brows furrowed.

“It’s not that and you know it. You look upset. Did something happen in there?” He asks while tilting his head. “Let me help you.”

Dawsyn knew what was happening to herself. She recognized the symptoms. But, after being here for so long she didn’t give a shit anymore. Did she want out? More than anything. Was she going to get out? Probably not. Was she okay with that? Fuck no. But would she deal with it? Yes. After walking out of the bathroom, she sipped at a water bottle to get the nasty taste out of her mouth. She paused immediately, the door closing and making contact with her back as she looked at the person that was there. She was hoping and praying that they didn’t hear her losing everything she’d eaten, but she didn’t feel so lucky. “…Bathroom’s open,” she muttered before trying to make her way down the hall in hopes of avoiding confrontation.

“I wasn’t going to the bathroom. I wanted to make sure you were okay.” Rooney says, having heard the little ruckus from outside the door when he was doing his rounds a few minutes earlier. Following closely behind her, Rooney raises his voice a little to catch her attention. “Is everything okay Dawsyn?”
