Despite the times he had fought to deny it, to hold himself high when everyone expected nothing out of the ordinary from him, Ryan was scared. Utterly scared. Growing up, there wasn't a thing that had been denied to him, the status held by his family name being enough to turn a calm and gentle boy into a child that most people wished to please. The thing was, he never asked for much, and that soon revelaed to be his biggest mistake when it came to his father. His simplicity was confused with weakness and, while his mother was proud of her little sweet boy, his father made sure to let him know how much of a disappointment he was to the family. "He doesn't." Ryan confirmed, looking down at his son. Arthur would surely add to the wrong things to through in his face, and Ryan wasn't willing to deal with it just now. "Just you."
His gaze lifted to meet hers, but unlike most times, he kept the smile. The baby had just let go of her hand and hid his face against his father's chest. "I'd do anything for you, Humphrey, you know that." If he had to think about it, she was probably the only one who really knew, aside from Austin. Yes, he had no intention of showing off or act like a complete prick just because he had enough money to secure the rest of his life, but Ryan was hardly weak and he defended who he was with every stregth he had. Letting out a laugh, he looked down at Arthur once more just in time to see hm smile to both him and Ana. "He does, can't you see the way he looks at you? Trust me on this." Maybe it's a trait we both share, I guess.
The mention of his father almost made him cringe, as he led the way to the elevator and walked inside. His relationship with the older Baker was hardly something one would consider healthy, to say the least. "We don't really get along. He wanted me to be more like Thomas, and instead I'm into books and music, something he believes it won't lead me anywhere. I tried to please him for a while, but at some point you just give up. --Don't get me wrong, I love my brother, even though I'd never tell him that, but I'm just not willing to be another version of him." He spoke softly, shrugging his shoulders. Talking about his family wasn't something he did very often, so it still seemed strange to try that now. Still, he couldn't deny her that. Not after dropping that bomb. "The fact that I have a son will prove him right, you know? Because he's never seen me with a girl, and believes that's because no one would be interested in someone so... weak, when in truth I was just too caught up with the same one for years. I guess it's hard to get someone out of your head when you're not willing to let go. And I'm not, even though I believed otherwise for a while." He smiled over at her, as the elevator stopped and he stepped inside his apartment, his eyes moving to meet hers once again. "I don't need to prove him wrong, but I do want to give Arthur a good life. And myself, obviously." Just like I want to give you the same.
