Little Secrets
"Even without my powers, I’ve always had an open mind. Things are never truly what they seem. At least that’s what I’ve experienced. Sure, I would be skeptical but you’ve never lied to me before so I suppose I would assume that you’d be telling me the truth." he explained. "But I’m not so all this is speculation. Or if you were human and I told you what I am? Would you call me insane? Or think I am the human definition of angel?"
"Excellent. We’ll meet here. I’d like to show you a place I found when I moved here. A place for people like us. A sanctuary of sorts." he explained. "Just keep the location to yourself." He smiled back at Ryan. He seemed relieved to finally confide in someone. Knox was glad to be that person. If only he had someone like that when he was just starting out. But it was not the time for recalling a past that could not be undone. “So…..see you tomorrow? We’re getting a few transfers from another shelter.”
"Uh...yeah. Yeah. See you tomorrow." Ryan stated with a small smile as he left the office, feeling good about the confessions and discoveries made with Knox. He finally had somebody, he wasn't alone anymore. It was the best feeling he'd had in...well, he actually couldn't remember a time he had been this happy before. This true happiness that sunk down deep into his bones. It was a new beginning, he could feel it.
The next say, Ryan came in with a content smile forming along the contours of his lips, immediately doing the morning routine of small tasks that the shelter usually had him scheduled for before making his way to Knox's office. "Hey." he greeted, relieved to see the other man. He could already feel it forming--the sense of comfort and protection he felt just being around the other.
"You said a few transfers were coming in today, right? Anything I can do to help?" he questioned with curious eyes as he took a seat in the empty chair opposite Knox's. "I mean, I know I wanna help them get settled, if I can. Make sure they're comfortable. Maybe even sneak a few treats past my boss..." he said with a playful smirk, eyes locked on the other. "But are we talking dog transfers or cat transfers? Because I only have a limited amount of treats here."
