In addition to the news from last week that Joe Murray’s Let’s Go Luna! will arrive this November on PBS Kids, here’s something that’s also very interesting! Also announced is Molly of Denali, the first American children’s series starring an Alaskan Native lead! It’s an action adventure comedy, with 38 half hours and an one hour special being produced. The new series follows Molly and her parents who run a trading post in addition to going on adventures in Alaska with her friends. Molly of Denali will employ Alaskan Natives in its voice cast as well as its production staff. 

It’s produced by WGBH with animation by Atomic Cartoons (Atomic Betty), and it would make its debut in the summer of 2019!

I will never forget the day when I was drawing, in the front row, with full out colored pencils in one of my 7000 level graduate school courses. And my professor walked by, glanced down, said, “Nice artwork!” and kept lecturing. She knew. She knew it was how I focused on the course material. It was validating and made me feel comfortable, confident, and alert the entire semester.

I had exactly one teacher in high school who got it. My world history teacher in senior year, and not coincidentally, one of my favorites. He had a rule against drawing in class generally, but I just quietly started disobeying and doing it anyway because it was the only way it was going to work. It never became a problem.

One day he told another student to stop doodling, and the guy threw me under the bus: I drew all day every day so how come he didn’t say anything to me?

The teacher asked him to repeat back what he’d been saying before the disruption, but he wasn’t able to. He asked me next, and I repeated back accurately. He told the other student, “when you can do that, you can draw in my class. I let him draw because when he’s drawing I know he’s listening.”
