“Good you added that last part. I was almost going to whip your ass,” Rosie joked, though she thought being called different was one of the best compliments she could ever get. That’s all she ever wanted to be. Different. Outstanding. “I have no reason to think you aren’t good enough, Ryan,” she started, trying to carefully choose her next words. She didn’t know how to do this. Admit to someone she liked them back. Sure, Rosie had had her fair share of flings through the years, but they often ended as soon as they started. “I’m just trying to say… if you aren’t good enough for me, then no one is. Then again, I might be a bit biased, seeing as I think you’re one of the greatest guys in the world,” she said softly. “I know your life has been leaving you with the impression that you aren’t worth much. Maybe you think you haven’t done much good on earth. I’m not in a position to objectively judge you on that. But in my experience, you’ve done much more good than bad. You’re worth a whole damn lot to me.” With her free hand, she reached out to caress Ryan’s cheek, with a fond smile on her face. He was addressing her with her real last name now, and that was enough to get her full attention. It was hard to believe and unusual, to say the least, that someone would give everything up for her. “I already figured you’re not the kind of person that backs down on decisions. I’m sure there’s nothing I could say that would make you change your mind. But I won’t let you end up like that, over my dead body. If you’re doing something for me, I want to return the favor. I don’t want to do this unless we’re fully in it together. If I’m going to rise to the top of the world, I want you to be there, too.”
“That’s a lie, you had million reasons to think that, but you decided not to and that’s the difference that matters.” the boy said, knowing his bad reputation. But that was just another reason he liked Rosie so much. She didn’t care. From the moment they met, she didn’t care about rumours or about Ryan trying to prove her that he’s the bad guy. She just got to know him, in her own way. She saw that he’s not so bad and at one moment, neither one of them knew when exactly they became closer than they ever thought that they will be. And that was the best moment of his life. “You really think that? That I’m one of the greatest guys in the world? ” he asked, not beliving that someone could ever see him this way. When Rosie involved his bad opinion about himself, he looked away and bit nervously his lip, remembering all the crappy things he’s done in his life. As soon as she said that he worthed a lot to her, he looked at Rosie, not knowing what to say. “And what is that supposed to mean?” he knew exactly what it meant, but it was kind of too hard to believe it. It was too good. He looked down, when a stupid smile appeared on his face. He was acting like some in love teenager and it was absurd, but it felt so good. The next moment he moved his eyes, so they can meet hers and said, almost whispered, actually “I will be. And I really hope this won’t be followed by a slap, but...” he took a deep breath “I need to...” he leaned over and kissed her, and maybe it was stupid maybe he was crazy to confess to his best friend that he’s in love with her, and maybe it was crazy to kiss her 5 minutes after that, but he didn’t care anymore. Life was too damn short to waste any more time. And there was one thing he knew, and it was that If you love someone, you tell them. Even if you're scared that it's not the right thing. Even if you're scared that it'll cause problems. Even if you're scared that it will burn your life to the ground, you say it, and you say it loud and you go from there.

For the first time in a while, Rosie didn’t have a witty remark ready to shoot back at Ryan. Bright blue eyes stared at him when the lighthearted, playful mood of their conversation shifted to something she couldn’t quite put her finger on. She had never seen Ryan like this. And the words he was using, well, those were kind of new too. “You… like me?” Rosie repeated, as if she just hadn’t heard him admit it loud and clear. A small smile then formed on her lips. “Only I get to decide what and who’s good enough for me,” she said stubbornly. “And I’ve never said you aren’t. And if I ever did, back in high school, that’s all in the past. My opinion has changed now.” It was true. God knows she hadn’t expected things to go this way, but Ryan had been a constant in her life for the past few years. Sure, they had lived separate lives, and they hadn’t always been talking as much, but Rosie knew that when she needed him, he would always be there. “It was a pretty sweet joke, I have to admit, even though you blew it out of proportion,” Rosie giggled, scooting closer to where Ryan was sitting. She resisted the urge of making a joke about how he was concerned whether he’d end up in heaven or not. She didn’t want to hurt his feelings, not now. Rosie grabbed his hand, shaking her head. “I can’t make you do it, Ryan. You barely make enough to support yourself. I don’t want you to go down with me. I would never forgive myself if that happened. I’m a big girl, I can handle this. Believe me.”
The boy shook his head at her question or whatever it was supposed to be. “Of course I like you, you’re you...” what was he doing, he wasn’t a one to share his feelings just like that. “You can be annoying at times, no question, but you’re also energetic and nice and funny and different.” he said taking a deep breath. “And it’s a good different...” after she said that her opinion has changed now, Ryan smiled at her “So...do you? Think I’m good enough for you, I mean?” he didn’t know if she was suprised that he liked her. But it would be weird if she was. Like he really didn’t like sharing his feelings, but most of the time it was obvious when he had them. And for the past few years, she was probably the person he was the closest with. Maybe that was one of the reasons he never admitted his feelings, cause he didn’t want to ruin this. He didn’t want to ruin his relationship with the person he cared about the most. “Oh come on, my jokes are always good.” the boy said, laughing. “ Rosie Palladino...listen to me.” he said, and smiled looking at their hands. “You are not trying to make me do anything. It’s my decision and...I most certainly prefer to go down with you, which won’t happen by the way cause you’ll make it, than to watch you struggle when I can help you. Even if I have to live on the street, I would do it, I would do anything to make your dreams come true, cause it will be worth it.” Ryan said and looked her right in the eyes “You’re worth it.”

“Boring teacher was exactly the look I was going for though,” Rosie fired back at him, sticking out her tongue. It was so obvious Ryan didn’t think applying for this job was a good idea. But the interview was in two hours, and Rosie had already made up her mind. There was no going back. “It’s not like I’m signing a lifetime contract, Carter. It’s only an intermediate solution,” she argumented, though she did understand where he was coming from. It’s not really a Rosie Palladino thing to do. “You’re really good at exaggerating things, you know that?” she replied, not being able to hold in her laugh as he compared her to Audrey Hepburn. “’That’s a really sweet offer, Ryan, and it’s incredible that you would do that for me, but you know I cannot accept it. I don’t want to be dependent on anyone, especially not when it comes to money. I have to battle this on my own.“
"I find your ego quite attractive, but still I’m doing this for you and I won’t take no as an answer.” he said, smiling at her. “I like you Rosie and I refuse to let you, settle for something that isn’t good enough for you.” the boy explained, waiting for a reaction. “Except for me, I’m the only thing that isn’t good enough for you, that you can settle for.” when he saw her poker face reaction, he laughed. “Ok, it was a joke, don’t throw anything at me.” well it wasn’t exactly a joke, but who cares. “Please, let me do this. You know, I’m not going to heaven, If I’ve never done something good in my life.” why was she making this so hard for him, why was she so independent and stubborn. And why he wanted to be so involved with her life.
rosietallen:
“Ryan Carter,” Rosie said, her voice sounding as strict as ever. “I need you to look in my eyes and be fully honest with me. I’ll just repeat my question – does this outfit make me look professional and serious enough?” She was heading to a job interview later on, a secretary job, to be exact. It was far from her dream job, and Rosie hated she came to the point of having to do this, but she had no choice. Her performances simply weren’t paying the bills, and she was having a hard time supporting herself financially, all alone in the small apartment in New York. “You know how much I need this to work.”
Ryan looked at the girl again, with a smile on his face. “You look like a boring teacher, so I guess the answer to your question is yes. You look as professional as one can look.” The boy couldn’t understand why she needed this lame job. It was not for her. She had this sparkle in her and her whole attitude wasn’t suitable for a job like this one. Sure, she needed the money, but was this the way. “I do, I know...but come on. I can’t imagine you doing this. It will seriously kill your whole persona.” the boy said, meaning every word. “You’re Audrey Hepburn, not 68 years old grandma with 2 cats.” this sounded way too nice for his taste, but someone had to talk some sense into her head. “I can help you. If all you need is money, I can.” What was he doing, he couldn’t even support himself.
Is this one of those times when you want me to lie to protect your delicate emotions?
