“Work…,” he repeated, curious as to what the man does. “You work in a morgue?”
“Hospital.” Hoping things would come clear with that answer. “Morgue would be kind of cool, though. Not sure you can leave there with blood on your hands. Though... I shouldn’t exactly leave the hospital with blood on my hands.”

“As long as you don’t get any blood on my carpet,” Milena quipped back, though her gaze quickly shifted over towards Ryder’s bloodied hand. “Rough day or…?”
“Oh, stop. I know how to get blood out of carpet, amongst other things.” He gave a lazy roll of the eyes, cleaning up the rest of his hand. “Nah, not really. Was about to leave when some girl’s nose started bleeding, she passed out at the sight of blood and proceeded to knock her head on a chair. I can’t make this shit up.”

“And, you know, if I didn’t actually know you, I might have believed you for a hot minute,” was Paul’s response, an amused smile crossing his features.
“Do I look that murderous? Or maybe I look charming. I think that’s the way to be if you’re good at what you do - both in life and in murder.”
“Ah, the feeling of a fresh cup of coffee in your hands and in your soul.” Ryder sat down across from Ricky, taking a long sip of his coffee. Even when they had small breaks, they were often interrupted by an emergency page. “You busy today?”

Bewildered, Cooper asked, “I-isn’t that….a show? That’s what we’re talkin’ about, right?”
Placing palms up, he showed off the traces of blood. “Maybe...” Ryder smiled and shook his head. “Nah, just got off work.”

The last thing Cleo was expecting was to see some guy covered in blood, but in the same way she was definitely intrigued by it and him, she never did well with blood. “It’s not that,” Cleo was mumbling as she covered her nose, swallowing and trying to repress her need to gag. “I just…” The nausea swept like a wave over her, so much so that she couldn’t bring herself to finish whatever she was saying. It was a struggle itself not to fall over completely.
It didn’t take much for his doctor instinct to kick in, placing a hand on her shoulder. It wasn’t long before he realized she was only nauseous and nothing more. A smirk came to his lips. He moved the hand on her shoulder to her back and walked her slowly to a seat nearby. “Hold tight. Don’t pass out on me.” Ryder spoke to the girl as he walked away, pointing a finger in her direction. “Tense your body up for 10 seconds and release over and over until I get back.” He popped in a room over, wiping hands clean and changed out of his shirt. At least he smelled like rubbing alcohol and not blood, for the girl’s sake. “I think I’m all good? Usually keep things a little cleaner when I’m committing a crime. My bad.”
“What?” Ryder asked, knitting brows together. “Can’t a dude murder someone and get away with it?”
Only one girl (rightfully so) got the blonde princess emoji next to their name in his phone. His sister, over ten years younger and in his eyes she still looked about age five to him. Though, in her very adult life she was busy being important. It took a little convincing but could anyone blame him for at least trying to be better? He had roughly three hours free on a Saturday and from the blonde pack, he plucked out a specific sister to impress. Because even in his older years, he felt like he still needed her approval. “I’ll get us a reservation wherever you want to go. You may not think I know people but I know people.” Ryder stated on the phone, a smirk coming to his lips.

Why wasn’t that ending? Why did she kept returning home? Why— there were plenty of questions swirling around Tess’ mind as she faintly heard people speaking on the circle she was in. Group therapy, grief counseling, everybody said it was a good idea and she attended to it ever since she returned home. Sometimes, like that one particular time, she was feeling misplaced and she needed desperately to get out of there.
Without so much as a word, Tess got up from her seat, grabbing the coat that was hanging from it and walked out. She heard ever since she got there that being there was a choice— was a choice she was choosing not to make now. As soon as she stepped outside, the cold weather hitting her face as she grasped for air, the blonde haired found her car and leaned against it, lightening up a cigarette and breathing in the nicotine through her lips.
From a distance, she could see a faint silhouette and definitely something hitting the ground, which made her prop from the car and take a bit of a jog towards the fallen object, taking it into her hands. A wallet. “Hey—” she called out to the owner, “you dropped your wallet.”
“Don’t change the subject.” He sighed, plucking the cigarette out of her mouth before tossing it to the ground. A stomp of his foot put it out and crushed it within seconds. “I come here with lunch and you’re sneaking out. Some things never change, huh?” Though, he wasn’t angry, just generally annoyed, he shoved a bag of fast food her way. Hey, at least it wasn’t a cigarette. And after, he pulled the wallet from the ground, sliding it into his back pocket.
But the look on her face - he’d seen that before. Between all three of his sisters, they all made the same face. “Alright, what is it?” Furrowed brows, hoping it wasn’t more serious than it had to be. “What’s wrong?”

Veronica’s eyes narrowed into a glare, silently turning her middle finger up pointing it towards Ryder. Reaching back down for her fork, the blonde pushed more food around her plate and shrugged. “I’d be a shitty mom, anyway,” she admitted, not at all ashamed. “Vada was the one who was going to have kids. She’d have been great at it.” Much like Ryder was with his siblings, Vada had always been the same sort of parental figure to Veronica. “I think you don’t give yourself enough credit. You’d be a good parent. You and Vada were practically one and the same.”
“Bite me.” He retorted with a roll of his eyes, shoving another fork into his mouth. “Yeah, she would.” He lingered on the thought of Vada. Their entire family seemed more and more broken as time went on. “Oh, I know I’d be a good parent. I’m not giving my dating life credit.” That was... non-existent. “Unfortunately, all the Spencer’s are one and the same in some way, shape, or form.”

Katrina’s first instinct was to laugh, but instead, blue eyes cast up towards the steps. They travelled up a white coat, finding a face creased with a frown. Looking up further, she saw the sign. Overlake Medical. Woops. Instead of putting it out, she lowered the cigarette, housing it between her fingers before defiantly lifting her chin up.
“Try not to breathe too deep then, I’ve got about ten minutes before my interview and I’m trying to kill time.”
Raising brows, he couldn’t help but smirk to himself. He took a few steps down to meet her, slipping hands into pockets. It was unlike him to take a break but he’d needed it. “You could have got a tea. Or you know, popped a Xanax.” He thought he was being funny. “What’s the interview?” Ryder asked curiously. If he had company, he might as well ask the right questions.

“Lucky’s my middle name,” came Anna’s retort, the smile crossing her features now one that could be called impish. “You could definitely do that. How formal is the event you’re going to? Ties aren’t always essential.”
“Wouldn’t put it past you if it actually was.” He smiled. “Eh, not too formal. Should I do the thing where I roll the sleeves up? Girls are super into that, right?”

Pursing her lips to the side, Nora licked them after analyzing him for a moment. “Go with a burgundy tie then, and wear a gray shirt if you own one, but a dark gray and a black suit.” She got up from her seat and walked over to Ryder, picking both of the ties and holding them close to his neck before tossing the red one as far as she could. “Yes, this is the one and it compliments your skin much better. Your sister was right to have you come to me, Ry— sometimes it pays off to have a fashion designer as a friend.”
“It really does.” He responded, unsure of what all just happened. His wardrobe was... scrubs, really. Polyester. A rubber glove or two for accessory. “Seems very classy. Can we make it a little more causal? Or at least, if you’re going to dress me up, talk about the kiddo. I haven’t really seen her. She’s too cool for me these days.”

The drip of cold condensation on her glass reminded her of it still in hand, the liquor a nice familiar burn as it slid down her chest with each sip. “I can agree to some extent, yeah. The world is a pretty morbid place.” She’d stopped looking for reasons as to why things happen the way they do a long while ago. “Plus, serendipity seems like a bit of a cop-out. Like if I succeed and work my ass off to achieve something, its because of what I did, not because the universe deemed it acceptable. Screw that.”
“And we’re both here in this bar alone - though, now together - by choice.” He was glad she could agree. Him and fate didn’t mix too well, he chose a lot of his life thus far. “You have to be like... What? Twenty-two? You come to bars alone? Seems a little depressing.”

Colette put her hand down and waited for him. She dragged her finger across the touch pad of her laptop and the video she was in the middle of editing popped up. With a sigh, she saved what was there and exited the screen – inspiration could not be forced. When Ryder came over she smiled, slapping her laptop shut. “Not much. Working – or, trying to. But I’ve been staring at my screen for hours, so,” she replied, shrugging. “What’s up with you? It’s the middle of the day, where are your patients. Are they here too?” She laughed.
“Probably not so good for your eyes.” He replied with a small smile. “I’ve got a weird shift today. My patients are unfortunately still in hospital beds, I’m sure. If they’re not, we may have a problem. Just running in for some java in the bloodstream before I head that way.” With that, Ryder lifted the coffee cup to his mouth and took a sip. “You should take a break. Want to walk with me to the hospital?”
