WMH was made under the mentorship of Lauren Faust (My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic) and John Musker (The Little Mermaid) and features talent including Ify Nwadiwe (Dropout)! Hey guys! For the 2026 Toxic Yuri Visual Novel Jam, I had the absolute pleasure of writing and producing MIRROR_NEURON, an 18+ visual novel about care, endurance, humanity, inhumanity, and the fraught relationship between a mech and her Pilot.
Written entirely by me and directed by my lovely wife @saoirsedotpdf, MIRROR_NEURON has a total of about 16k words, 4 standard endings, and 1 secret ending.

i had a great time working on these, i picked up the "is this love" CG for when youve raised the pilots SYNC score enough ......
when i said yes 2 this cg, emma (our writer) asked me to communicate "womb energy" which gave me pause for a bit lol -- i decided in context this meant cradling/sublimation/total communion of self between the pilot and the celerity. i had a few different ideas for this composition, but i didn't want to overcomplicate it too much, esp bc there's always a tight turn around in a gamejam lol. here are the two thumbnails i sent over:
side note, earlier in the game dev before i signed on for this cg, (we're all just in one game dev server that has slept since the vn jam from last year) - i told emma that when i imagined the pilot's chair/rig inside the mech, it reminded me of that scene in where the wild things are when the child (i forget his name, sorry!) hides inside of his monster friends' stomach -- i remember watching that in theatres and being so grossed out. that felt right for this game.
while sketching this out, i had considered another hand placement where the pilot is gripping her shoulder/holding herself- i liked this because it felt a bit more desperate and i thought the shape was a bit more interesting, but having her hand out/thumb away felt more fetal
the colors are really inspired by guts -- there are other cgs that use a variety of bright blues/reds/pinks/purples, and i wanted to play with that and tone it down.
for the composition, i wanted it to feel like you are a) staring down at the pilot who is captured/resting in side of an enclosed/sheltered area [like an opening in a forest, or the bottom of a hole], and/or b) seeing someone floating in (a held) space. i started off doing a values test to see if i felt like it worked, and then started adding in colors. the circle around her is supposed to feel like the celerity's gaze -- all of the pale blue is supposed to be areas of attention and play off of the connection btween the pilot + mech.
in the version of this where i used a darker color on her hair/shading, i think it feels a bit more like a submersion on her body, which i like.
overall -- this cg isn't anything too crazy, but i had a lot of fun playing with it and i am happy w/ how it came out! even now, there are things i'd tweak or push, but i'm just happy to have supported my friends in this endeavor! please read mirror neuron!!!!!!!
