I think the reason people keep bringing up that the cost of groceries will rise if farm laborers stop showing up to work because of ICE raids, is because we just lived through an election where people voted for draconian immigration changes and to strip the rights of women if it meant paying less for food.

I don’t think the people bringing up the cost of food are doing it because they don’t care about the humanity of people at risk of deportation right now.

They’re calling out the hypocrisy in pretending you voted for fascism because you wanted to pay less for lettuce and chicken, and then instilling inhumane policies that will also immediately increase the cost of lettuce and chicken.

It’s pointing out the cause -> effect relationship of our choices.

And frankly I don’t want to hear any pissing and moaning about the cost of food from conservatives who were more than happy to spend the past decade blocking every attempt at legalizing millions of undocumented immigrants.
