the fire burned softly, quiet crackles lingered in the air. you were sitting on the big log, sipping soda from a cup while watching the flame.
some of your friends organized a group camp out. a few were your mutual friends, but a few weren't. unfortunately, your friends brought their significant others, which led to you being alone.
you weren't too bothered by it, but it was a bit boring. they all sat close to each other, giggling after someone whispered sweet nothings in their ear.
you looked up at the sky, noticing the stars were bright tonight. they never were as visible in the city as they were now. you looked around, watching everyone cuddled up, and decided to take a small walk so you could do some stargazing.
you got up and dusted your pants off before heading into a more secluded spot. it was quieter, more calm, and the stars were way more visible. you smiled to yourself, content with being about to see nature just like this.
your smile dropped when you heard a soft crunch of leaves coming towards you. when you turned around there was one of your camp mates. you didn't know him, just met him today.
sukuna.
he seemed pretty quiet. he didn't have anyone to entertain him, just like you. now he was coming up to you under the stars.
"hey." he said quietly, as if trying not to wake the forest up. he stood shoulder to shoulder with you, not quite in your space, but definitely closer than a new acquaintance should stand.
"hey." you said back, taking a tiny step away from him. it wasn't noticeable, just enough so you could have your own space.
you kept your eyes on the sky, counting stars, and trying to find constellations.
sukuna watched you with interest. you looked more content here than with friends. you seemed to stray away from people than stick with them. he kind of admired that.
"you know, you look kind of lonely." he said into the night, while following your gaze to the stars. "i'm lonely too. got no one here to keep me company."
you didn't say anything, just connected stars together as sukuna stood next to you. he watched your eyes shift from one star to the next.
"if we weren't so lonely, we'd be having fun." you whispered, still not glancing at sukuna. his eyes stayed on you, taking a tiny step towards you.
"we can pretend. i'll pretend if you'll pretend too."
this time, you met his eyes. he looked genuine, like he was ready to pretend like he wasn't lonely. like he was ready to pretend you were his only one. you shouldn't have said yes, but the longing of being wanted was much more stronger than logic.
in a quick second, sukuna's hands were on your waist. his body was close to yours, chest almost pressing against yours. his face was close to yours, far too close from someone like him, but you let him.
you put your hands on his shoulders and looked at him with curiosity. he started to sway his body, pulling you closer till your face met his shoulder. he smelled like comfort. like fresh laundry and something human. you slid your hands up, wrapping around his neck and sighing.
no music played, just the quiet crunch of leaves as you both danced under the stars.
sukuna kept you close, his breath caressing your neck as he breathed. he almost sounded out of breath, like this was something he desperately needed. you tried to pull away to look at his face, but he just held you tighter.
then came the words : i love you
you froze. your body stopped swaying with his. you felt his body tense, like he wasn't supposed to say that. you tried pulling away again, but he just held you tighter.
"we're pretending." he whispered against your skin. "i'll tell you you're everything i've ever wanted. you can use me like im using you."
you should've stopped there, but it felt too good. he was using you in the way he needed, and you weren't gonna give up an open opportunity.
you wrapped your arms tightly around his neck, pressing your cheek against his. your body swayed with his, the rhythm soft and slow. sukuna could feel his heart racing, not from feelings, but more so from knowing he got what he was longing for. even if this was fake, he'd still relish in it.
you were using each other in a way you both needed. you were longing to be seen, held, even heard, and sukuna was there. he was longing to have someone in his arms, and you were there.
it was crazy and stupid, but it all felt like everything was coming together even for just a moment.
"don't ask for my number after this." you mumbled softly into the silence. he tensed for a second before melting back into you.
"i'll ask suguru instead." he chuckled softly. suguru was your mutual friend who invited sukuna to the camp getaway.
"sukuna!" you pulled away a bit to meet his eyes.
his hands moved to your cheeks, cupping them softly and looking into your eyes. "i'm teasing."
but suddenly, he wished he wasn't. not when this whole moment between you felt real.
it might've been fake, but sukuna knew in some way his heart was pulling towards you, and he didn't know how to stop it.
