the story and VAing for mermaid mask was very good (unsurprising) and the game mechanics also definitely got an upgrade (3D models of the clues, more signposting without being too hand holdy)

we have 10 characters, including the 2 previously existing detectives

1 of our characters with darker skin is the murder victim, which is not ideal when you consider that's only 3/10 of our main cast. (and like 4/17 if you include minor characters)

then we have our 2 black characters. I didn't notice any antiblack stereotypes or racism from the other characters, but of course I am a fallible human and a white one at that, so take that with a grain of salt. I did really enjoy their designs and characters though, which is one of the strengths of the games.

I think also mariana is meant to be east asian, but that's based mostly on her concept art and there's nothing specific beyond that (that I saw)

overall better than the other two games but like. still could be better

in tangle tower And mermaid mask there's (two separate pairs of) Two Girls who call each other best friends and Leave The Setting Together after the mystery is solved and of course I'm like. just make them gay for each other

but also mortuga (murder victim) has spent the last however many years basically torturing himself to try to find a woman he knew and it's clear to me that in Most stories they would have been explicitly romantic but iirc they're never described that way so maybe they're just not bothering to write any explicit romance. which is fine I prefer to ship that way. as long as they're also doing it to the hets lol
