      It hadn’t taken her long at all to find someone–well, someone besides the people she could only describe as “NPCs.” Though she had taken a moment to bother one, at first, they hadn’t seemed to have as strong a personality or presence as she’d expected someone from this simulation world might have.. Bringing the conversation to an end, she’d continued her search to find someone who would hopefully be more..interesting.

      This boy seemed to be a better start. Hopefully she wouldn’t end up being disappointed, again..

“Whoa..! I love your hair! That’s such a pretty blue..”

      Beautiful hair that could stand out for miles, and lovely lime eyes, to go with it..! Really, colors that stood out from “the norm” were the best. It made her feel like she belonged, in a way. Fitting in with the “natural” blondes and browns was such a hassle, too..wigs were always incredibly itchy.. She much preferred letting the world see her real hair. Besides, if she ever got teased for it, she was prepared to retaliate–with words, for now.

   Some parts of the city were dangerous or dirty, but if you found the right place to sit down and relax, it could be quite enjoyable to sit outside for a while. Kanata had found a nice park and brought along some supplies to make more sea-themed toys. So far, he’d finished up the stitches on his drowned body plushie, and now he was working on a cute, little sea bunny slug plushie. He’d been so distracted in his work, he’d barely paid attention to anything until a cheery voice called out to him.

   “Oh? Hehe. Thank you~” The idol looked up from his plushwork with a smile. In this sort of place, one didn’t often have a stranger approaching them randomly to compliment them. It was a pleasant surprise. “I like blue since it reminds me of the ‘ocean’~ Your hair is also pretty, isn’t it? It reminds me of my pink angelfish friend. ♪ ”

(( Uwoh... Right after I posted a starter call, I disappeared for a week, didn’t I? I got pretty swamped for a while. I think I’m mostly caught up, so I’ll try to get those starters out soon. Please try to be patient with me in the meantime;; ))

“So I guess this means your main names Kanata? Cool. I can roll with that.”

Well, he did interact with a siren once, and he had a few bots based on fish. But of course, that was a different story.

“Well, yea! I’ve dealt with some fish here and there.”

   “Oh, you have some ‘experience’ then~ I am glad. ♪ Maybe you will learn even more and have some ‘fish friends’ of your own~”

   Leading Jack through the ruined library that housed his sector’s apartments, Kanata joyfully wobbled.

   “My friends, they are also used to interacting with ‘humans’, since they used to stay in the ‘marine biology club room’, so they would often see Souma or Kaoru~”

“There is, I really don’t care about what you’re talking about.” he said quite coldly. He wasn’t going to lie about it.

   “Hm...?” Such a harsh response clearly surprised him, and Kanata gave a small frown. “That is sad, since creatures of the ‘sea’ are very important...”

“Huh. I would’ve thought someone that couldn’t swim would like water… less.” Or that they would’ve tried much harder to learn to swim. It wasn’t something that seemed right to pry into, so he’d leave it at wondering. 

The sharp splinter through his thoughts had eased up, leaving a duller pain at the back of his head. It throbbed with every step, but it wasn’t so hard to handle it at this stage. Hayato still leaned both arms on the high, oval-shaped guest services desk when they reached it. The middle-aged man behind it peered at him with a blank face.

“There’s a… spill starting back at that fountain in the middle. You might want to put up a few wet floor signs before someone falls,” Hayato said with a smile, hesitating when he realized he wasn’t sure how to explain what had happened. ‘Spill’ was good enough. He looked back at the nearly unapologetic cause of the mess, then asked the staff member, “Do you have any towels?”

   “Hehe. ♪ Something that small cannot ruin my love for the ‘water’, since my love for it is as big as the ‘sea’~” Kanata giggled happily, always glad to speak about the ocean, even in passing.

   Once at the desk, Hayato explained the situation briefly, and the man behind the desk seemed to quickly piece together the situation. It wasn’t difficult to tell once he looked at the teenager, soaked from head to toe in water, distracted by wall paintings and pamphlets on the desk.

   The man was able to radio the staff to ensure the “spill” was handled properly and brought a couple of towels to place on the desk towards them. Kanata picked one up and began drying his hair first. “Ah, we could also use some ‘ice’. He slipped in the water and hit his head on the ‘floor’. Is there somewhere we can get some...?”

Jack started to walk with him, matching his pace. “It’s nice to meet you too Shinkai! The names Jack Spicer!”   He didn’t say he was an evil boy genius like he usually did because that might blow his cover. He was almost caught once and he didn’t want to get caught again. He was still fearful of that ‘chop’ Shinkai implied earlier.

   “Hehe. ♪ It’s okay to call me ‘Kanata’ if you like~ In Japan, the surname comes before the given name, so what you would call a ‘first name’, mine is ‘Kanata’~”

   If Jack was nervous, Kanata didn’t notice, and it wasn’t likely to change his behavior if he did. That facade was probably a good one to keep up. If he flubbed it, Kanata was likely to shove his head in one of the holding tanks.

   “We are almost there~ ♪ Jack, are you used to dealing with ‘fish’?”

    The pond in sector six was an ideal hunting ground, if only for the fish swimming about in the small ponds dotted around the place. She couldn’t really call it hunting when it was so easy, it was literally like shooting fish in a barrel. After skewering a fish with an arrow, holding it up to inspect it having shot it directly in the eye she notices someone watching her. He doesn’t look all that pleased, maybe he was hungry?

    “What?” She asks whilst eyeing him carefully, ripping the fish from the arrow head. “Do…you want one?” Asking a little hesitantly as these were her supplies, but she wasn’t beyond helping others if they really needed it. However, something about his expression said he wasn’t hungry, he looked more upset than anything else.

   Kanata was, in spite of his deep love for his fish friends inhabiting their tanks in his room, just as much, if not more, of a fan of eating fish as the next guy. He had no problem with hunters and fishermen...for the most part. They could stand to learn a few things about the fish they were catching so they can show a proper amount of respect to the animals. This girl, whether she realized or not, didn’t seem to know what she’d caught.

   “That ‘fish’... It is a threatened species.” Kanata spoke with a pout, seeing there was no way to save the creature’s life now. He would have had to act before she shot it. “Since it is close to being an endangered species, if it is hunted more, its species could ‘die’... You shouldn’t bully the ‘vulnerable’.”

The kid kept mentioning fish to him, but they weren’t fish Pokemon so he could care less. He tried walking away from him but no matter what the kid would follow him around. Silver sighed.

   “...And then, ‘whoosh’~ The sharks ‘swim’ in while the dolphins gather all the sardines together, so it is easier for both the sharks and the dolphins to eat while the sardines have nowhere to ‘run’.”

   “Hm?” Kanata paused, looking curiously at the other. “Is something ‘wrong’?”

    The sentiments were lost on her and she merely let the comments roll off of her like droplets of water. “I will never love the ocean,” her chuckle was low and rather sinister, all things considered. Widowmaker would never grow to love anything, no matter how beautiful or full of life it might have been.

For her line of work, it was an advantage. For everything else…well. She didn’t let herself dwell on it - too much independent thought was a dangerous thing in Talon, so she merely forced her mind to stop thinking so deeply. For now, her focus was on the boy in front of him and ensuring that he did not learn too much from her.

“Ryu…Ryuseitai?” Widowmaker didn’t like this foreign word either, and her nose scrunched a little as she struggled to pronounce it. “Children…need friends.” She spoke slowly, as though she was actually unsure of her words. “When you grow older, that will change.”

Friends merely held one back. Allies were important, yes, but they were on a completely different level. The more he spoke, the more sincere her smile became - it was obvious she was amused, and probably wasn’t harboring dark thoughts for once. “You are not curious to ask how I would use you?”

   “Ah...” Somehow, he got the impression there was no way to convince her with simple words. He wouldn’t be too disheartened. Most people failed to share his same love for the ocean. It was something he was at least accustomed to.

   It’s when she continues, however, that he becomes sad. When a person grows older, they no longer need friends? He didn’t agree with this, but did it mean that she didn’t have friends?

   “I do not think that is true... When you are ‘alone’, it is very ‘sad’. It can feel like you are being ‘crushed’, and that everyone is just watching or ignoring it. I do not think that is grown out of easily.” He gave a smile as he spoke again. “That is why, I would like if you would consider me a ‘friend’. ♪ ”

   “Hm....~? How you would use me?” Kanata gave a tilt of his head. “I do not think I would be very useful. What would you do?”

Jack quickly nodded his head, “Yea, exactly! I want to be their friend!” looks like he was able to get himself out of that one and by the sounds of it, he might get more facts about fish out of this. Meaning he could find the perfect fish for his plans.

“Really? I would love to see how hideous…ly cute they are!”

   “I am glad~ They will be very ‘happy’ to make a new ‘friend’, and it is almost time to feed them~”

   It’s a good thing Jack seems so eager because, now, Kanata took his hand and started to lead him towards his apartment full of fish tanks. He should be more wary to bring a stranger to his home, but the thought didn’t occur to him.

   “Ah, I almost forgot~ My name is Shinkai Kanata. It’s nice to meet you~ ♪ ”

It sure never was a dull moment in the city. Surely he wouldn’t be getting alone time anytime soon. Not that it mattered all too much, it kept things surprising. He knew how boring it would be to have everyday be the same, and that would be no good. Though as he walked he noticed something… there was a kid in a water fountain?.. something must have dropped into it.. but lease the kid was that bad off that he really needed to dig into a public fountain for change. 

He paid no heed into it, that was until he noticed something by his feet… what he would assume was a jellyfish. He might have considered it cute, if he really had too.. but it seemed rather damp so maybe… well he had picked it up to notice the other from before running in his direction, which could mean a few things but he took his own hunch. 

“ I assume this belongs to you?” He motioned as he held out the now rather dirty push jellyfish.

   It might be a strange sight to most people to see a young man in a water fountain, which would explain all the odd looks he received as he climbed out, but it was fairly normal for him to do such a thing. It was cold and small enough that he didn’t have to worry about drowning. As Kanata made his way out of the fountain and towards the stranger, a long trail of water soaked the ground from his drenched clothes.

   “It is~ Thank you. ♪ I thought that he would be ‘blown away’ by the wind.” Kanata spoke with a big smile as he accepted the plushie. His hands were a bit too wet at the moment to brush away the dirt that had accumulated on it, but he would have the chance to clean it later. “It is very lucky that you caught him~ Sometimes, the wind comes with a big ‘whoosh’~ and then, the toys that I have made will just fly away.”

Giving him a ‘chop’? His shoulders tensed, that didn’t sound good. The anxious feelings Jack had earlier appeared once again. “No, no, I don’t want to hurt your fish friends. I just wanna try to get less scared of them that’s all!”  he grinned nervously and started speaking faster than he was before.

“You said there were different types right? Well, maybe the others are cuter than that one and I’ll like them better! Please don’t chop me!”

   For a moment, Kanata gave Jack a stern expression. He would do what he must to protect his friends from the sea-- but perhaps he wouldn’t have to give this boy a chop? That was what he thought as he let his expression soften.

   “Hmm~... So, what you are saying is that you would like to be their ‘friend’...?”

   It was a leap in judgment, but it was fortunate in Jack’s case. Rather than being irritated, now Kanata was excited. Was this a future lover of the sea? A big smile spread across his face.

   “I do not have a Stargazer fish, but I have many other fish that you might like to see~ I will show you how ‘cute’ they all are~ ♪ ”

The way this stranger spoke reminded him of someone else he’d met. Hayato wondered if he was meant to be surrounded by people who seemed perpetually out-of-touch. He didn’t really mind, but it was a strange thing to adjust to. Maybe it was just this city, and given long enough he’d also sound like them. Being entirely calm and leisurely through almost anything had its advantages. 

“I’m guessing you’re a big water fan. You aren’t a fish person, are you? Does your skin dry out if you’re far from home for too long?” It was a joke, but not one he’d flip out over if the stranger said it was the truth. He wasn’t stupid enough to argue everyone he met was human. “You’re going to get in trouble with someone eventually if you don’t find a better place to go. Like a pool, or your bathtub. Then the only person slipping on anything will be you.”

The stranger didn’t seem too concerned about that, aside from a comment or two. Even now he was letting Hayato lead him anywhere. It was a good thing he wasn’t feeling more vindictive about this.

   “Hehehe~ ♪ ” Giggling. That would be about as much of a response as Hayato would get to his fish person joke. Kanata had to wonder if there were many people who knew him that might be beginning to think something like that. Well, it wouldn’t be a preposterous claim in a school with two vampires and a young man who uses witchcraft.

   “Ah... I can’t use a ‘pool’, since I am not able to ‘swim’... I could easily drown, so it is scary. Using my ‘bathtub’ would also be tricky, since it is a shared bathroom, and there is not enough time to ‘relax’...” Kanata frowned a bit as he spoke. ‘You’re going to get in trouble with someone’. He had heard it so many times, and of course there was some truth to it, but he would like to pretend otherwise. “I will try to be more careful from now on.” ...That also had been said many times.

Well, at least it was a toy, and it was away from his face.

“I knew that thing gave me the creeps! You’re telling me it has electric organs and it’s venomous? It’s not cute at all!” It sounded so scary, but at the same time, schemes were starting to pop up in Jack’s head. What if he could get one of these stargazer fish thingies and used them for his plans?

“So where exactly do you find them anyways?” The anxiety on his face instantly switched to a mischievous grin, he needed to try to get one of these things. Sure, they may be creepy, but it’ll change once he teaches them some things.

   “You don’t think it’s ‘cute’...? That is sad. Since the Stargazer fish is a ‘friend’ from the ‘sea’, I wish that more people could appreciate it.”

   Kanata gave a small frown as he hugged the plush toy in his arms. People rarely agreed with him when he called a sea creature cute, but it was still disappointing....

   “Hm~? Since there are different types of Stargazer fish, that is a broad question to answer...”

   Why would he want to find one anyhow if he found them so creepy? It was odd indeed, and the older boy wasn’t particularly fond of the expression the other was wearing.

   “I do not like that ‘look’. Why do you want to find a Stargazer fish? If you want to hurt my ‘friend’, then I will give you a ‘chop’.”

(( It’s been about a week since I joined, and I wanted to say thank you to everyone who I’ve interacted with so far. I’ve only ever been in small groups this long, so I’ve been very nervous, but you’ve all been kind and made me feel welcome.

That said, I’m much more adjusted now and have my laptop, so I may do another starter call or drop an open starter here soon. If you want to RP, just let me know~ I’m excited to RP with you all. ))
