tbh i don't imagine I'll be reading foucault any time soon, might as well drop it
listen i get that the balzac story is staggeringly transmisogynistic and barthes' fixating on that as the test case in ambiguity which he uses to explicate his idea is not great also, but you gotta admit that "i'm not sure how to feel about the concept of the death of the author anymore because of my doubts about the original writer's intentions and personal beliefs" is, from an irony standpoint, an objectively hilarious statement
Mahiro is like a friend that shows up on dash every now and then
❤️🩷 drag around.
honestly fandom has ruined me because now any time i'm in the desert and i see two vast and trunkless legs of stone or a half-sunk shattered visage i'm like "omg just like in Ozymandias" and its like come on girl not every half-sunk shattered visage is Ozymandias
it's nice how everything in the world can be described by well ordered and complete systems of rules that fully explain all possible perspectives and interpretations and can answer every question and account for [your phone rings, i hold eye contact with you, my grip on your hand tightens] don't pick that up. that's from godel. block that number.
I may be Bad™ at this game, but at least I'm never in the sort of predicament that the people at the edge of 800 elo manage to put themselves in.
As a "social group", I think there could be a lot of utility in promoting the value in minor self care tasks more. Not in the stuff that people have built up in their heads as "the thing i can't do" but the really, really little things.
The stuff with low activation cost but that isn't very rewarded so sometimes it's hard to bring yourself to do it.
Like. Bringing one dish to the sink, washing your hands, putting a dish in the dishwasher, cleaning part of the counter, texting a friend you've talked to recently, going outside, hugging someone nearby, refilling your water glass, laying down and closing your eyes for a few minutes, etc.

write a five words tragedy
love me
the other three words?
I love you
the thing you have to understand about people denying the transfemininity of any character is that they dont believe anything they say other than that the character in question is not a trans woman, and even that is mostly an objection to using those words. they will say the character calls themself a boy, and you can point out that it is a writing decision made by real people clearly defining "boy" as "has a penis" and they will not care. they will say the author called the character a boy, and you can once again point out how they are defining "boy" as "has a penis" and they will not care. If the author does say the character wants to be a girl, they will say its not in the text even if it is. the author's intentions, the cultural context of the work, and even the text itself only matter insofar as they can be used to argue their one actual belief, and when they cant, they will be abandoned. they will make a thousand excuses and contradict themselves, and when all else fails, they switch to claiming it would be bad writing if they were trans. they will say the character is too flawless or too flawed based on whatever seems most convenient, and they will not care that the amount of flaws the character has would remain the same even if they were not trans. they will claim its better to have a feminine cis boy, or that they want to headcanon the character as transmasc, or that being a trans woman is too binary. and if that fails to convince you the character shouldnt be a trans woman, they will decide the character *is* bad actually. everything they once liked about her is now proof shes bad.
unless a character is immediately labeled as a trans woman, they will decide she is something else, anything else, and that being a trans woman is bad.
if trans women like a depiction of us, the playbook is
actually thats not a trans woman
shes bad if she is
if trans women do not like a depiction of us, it gets reversed
shes good rep for trans woman who are butch/nonpassing/closeted/etc (does not matter if those trans women disagree)
actually thats not a trans woman so it cant be transmisogynistic
the transmisogyny is guiding belief here. anything else is rhetorical. what matters is that the characters are not trans women, or that we are wrong about them if they are.
these kids need to get along...
and on the off chance that my malformed thoughts about the death of the author leave the battlegrounds of bad faith discourse and reach someone who actually knows what 'signifier and signified' mean, remember: if we fight between ourselves, the french will win
NO WAY LMAO
I don't think that's true, at least it's not what I get from this paragraph, or from the rest of the essay (which everyone in the notes discussing the death of the author has read, surely).
