Picking Up An Old Habit
When did I decide to stop writing? When did I decide to pause this liberating expression of inner self? Looking back, I don’t even remember the day I put the pen down. I silenced these voices inside of me that have been scratching the intimate walls of my brain, screaming to be released. So many thoughts and inner demons scrambling within, waiting for their turn in the spotlight. My ego took over, thinking that I was doing the right thing by silencing these voices because I was afraid of what they might say... I am finally realizing that being both the jailer and the prisoner are not the roles I want to play anymore. By releasing myself from these labels, I am free to continue writing and giving these inner demons a chance to speak freely in a safe, nonjudgmental zone. This way they can be physically seen and nurtured instead of haunting me in my dreams. Today I will say that I know I’m not okay and it’s okay to not be okay... Though the future is unknown, there is one thing I am sure of: I will never be silenced, I will hold onto my power, and I will use my words to express myself in a healthy way in hopes of sparking a fire within someone else. Today, I have chosen to rise from the ashes and be transformed.
