It’s an election year here in the so-called United States, which means we’re going to see increasing amounts of visual pollution in the form of campaign signs over the next few months. Those signs are typically made of corrugated plastic, often better known by the generonym coroplast - a material that’s very popular in DIY due to being sturdy, lightweight, waterproof, and easy to work with. Here’s just a small smackerel of the types of projects people do with it!

You can wait until the elections wind down and ask your neighbors for their used signs or loot through the trash for them. Or if you see a sign for a shitty candidate in front of a house with no security cameras, I mean….. who’s gonna know?

I’m not sure this will make sense to anyone else, but Miki was a client. Arguably, Miki is THE client in Rogue Protocol. It’s Miki that essentially hires Murderbot, not the humans. It’s Miki that asks for assistance, not the humans. (Granted this is because MB implies it’s there as extra security, but still, the person turning to MB for help is Miki not the assessment team). But the fact that Miki is a bot obscures that fact from both MB and the audience. MB helps humans, protects and saves humans, so it doesn’t fully understand where the guilt it feels comes from. It’s not just that Miki wanted to be its friend; it’s that Miki was a client who died. In fact, it’s the only client in the series who does die. And worse, Miki died trying to help. Given that so much of MB’s identity is wrapped up in being able to protect and save its clients, no wonder it’s so messed up about what happened to Miki.

also!!! the bit where mb goes "i got the humans inside. (and miki, but at the moment i was classing it with the humans.)" there's so much going on there to do with minority groups, and minorities with different experiences, and how mb both is unable to separate miki from its (shared) identity as an oppressed minority and is also unable to class it as that oppressed minority, because its experience isn't coloured by lifelong abuse, which for mb is such an integral part of being a construct

not enough of a spotlight is shown on Ratthi and Gurathin in Fugitive Telemetry. SecUnit isn't allowed to hack government security systems so it invites its Two Best Guy Friends to come watch it break into a transport ship, AND BOTH OF THEM ARE LIKE "sure thing, sounds fun" ?? They put up the weakest "are you sure this is a good idea?" argument but otherwise just do what SecUnit needs (which is stand in front of security cameras and act as character witnesses). SecUnit's narration also implies that it would have just let its Two Best Guy Friends tag along for the rest of its murder investigation, for funsies, except the cops said no (booooo).

later THE SAME DAY, SecUnit (famously allergic to asking for help) messages their group chat "I need help" with ZERO context, which gives Ratthi and Gurathin such a shock they almost knock their table over. then it facetimes them from the NATIONAL HISTORY MUSEUM to ask which of these Preserved Artifacts works best for jetting out into space? and Ratthi and Gurathin are like, "that one with the red tags, but ummm why?"

"don't worry about it," it says, "I'll tell you later."

then it HANGS UP and they don't hear from it for the rest of the day.
