WEEK 11 LECTURE:
This week we discussed the future of design and what our role is as designers. Erik Kessel’s ‘24 Hrs in Photos’ demonstrates how the internet and its users are bombarded with countless images everyday. This provokes the question of whether or not your imagery is going to have a lasting impression or if it’s just going to get quickly lost and consumed unless it’s done for the greater community.
My final product: I am finally done with my interview, and it turned up almost as I wanted it. Since the first weeks, I had decided to make a zine out of the interview. I reached out to four designers and creative persons I admire. Elnaz was the only one who replied. One of my biggest and hardest thing to do was to translate the answers into English. After several mockups, I finally came up with a layout I wanted. A plain and simple design in a 16 pages zine. I used the layout document Andy and Karen posted on canvas. It took some time and a lot of thinking to find out how I should arrange the different pages. Luckily it only took a couple of printouts before I had a double-sided A3 sheet which turned out as a functional zine when I folded it. The only thing that did not work out as it should, was the folding. Since I didn’t fold it straight, some of the pictures and words are not placed as they should be. This assignment has been a lot of fun. I have learned so much. Especially when it comes to sending emails and making zines. I believe my design is representing the designer (Elnaz) because I put the focus on the pictures and the words.

The interactive version of my ask me anything project, showing Christies digital work in more detail.
For the ask me anything assessment I chose to interview Melbourne based graphic designer Christie Morgan. Starting out as a freelance artist and managing her own publication called Pitch Zine, Christie has since gone on to create Pitch Studios - a progressive and future-forward creative studio working with impressive clients. I chose to interview Christie as I admire her focus and dedication which has allowed her to achieve alot at a young age. I also wanted to interview a creative with a focus on the future of design as it’s a subject I’m most interested in. When creating this project I wanted to reference Christies career progression, from a small publication to working with new technology at her own creative studio. To do this I chose to create two versions of the publication: the printed hard-copy zine and the interactive pdf version. Both work independently from each other however the interactive version displays animated/video projects in more detail.

Was great to get some inspiration from existing zines in many different forms, shapes and sizes. I am currently working on a zine for the ask me anything project and will apply some of these techniques to my final design.
