OOHHHHH GOT IT

Rubbing my hands together. I'll start with something Hollow Knight related and yhen bullshit about something not Hollow Knight related. It's kinda related to Adventure Forward I guess, though not really.

So... the HK related story first. I have my baby nailmasters fic. There's like one chapter of it on ao3 so I'll just insert that here:

Since you're asking for themes I do want to explore and learn writing child trauma here. Not the abusive guardian type. In this case, it's trauma from the event of the triplets' parents falling to the Infection. Idk, it's certainly more challenging than writing trauma in adults. Because they're kids! whose mental and emotional mindsets have not even fully developed.

I intend to give Oro, Mato, and Sheo their own coping mechanisms to deal with it. For instance, Oro tries to hide it behind a wall of anger, but that's fragile because he's the one who was the most affected by that trauma and gives out somatic symptoms, i.e. nightmares and difficulty breathing. He is also scared that because he was the closest to his parents at the time, he will also become Infected like them.

Mato's way of coping is that he's always trying to help, be on the move, and the like. He doesn't try to sit and process it. And to an extent he does not understand what happened. In future chapters I do want to write him convinced that when The Hollow Knight gets sealed, his parents will just get better, and he begs Sly to take them to the City of Tears. Because outwardly he does not fully grasp the situation, he gets confused and panics when his brothers get moody or sad. He tries to help them feel better.

Sheo absorbs it inwardly compared to Oro. He doesn't try to think or remember about it too much. He pushes away his feelings because his younger brothers need him to. But at a point he is protective of them and tries to have control of a situation because he couldn't take control when his parents became Infected. It kinda gets to a point where he struggles to feel or show emotion. But he learns to express it through drawings or paintings.

Other than that we have Esmy. I headcanon that she's just Sly's sort of despised sister lol because her name ends with 'y' as Sly's does, following the pattern of Oro, Mato and Sheo's names all ending with 'o'. But anyway, I'd like to explore themes of her acting as a kind of replacement mother figure to the boys. Sly took them in, yes, but he is a better teacher than he is a parent. It does provide more stability in the group, and the triplets do need it.

As for Sly, it's about, well, learning to be a parent. He brought the boys in because they were in danger and had nowhere else to go. But GOSH they are a troublesome bunch; they steal money from the bugs and stuff? He didn't consider them to be a real headache. He has flaws in his parenting; he's learning to deal with their trauma and Oro's symptoms and manage Mato's emotions and... hyperness. Another flaw I'd like to include is him thinking Sheo is fine because he can function as a miniature adult. But Sheo is a freaking child who hasn't learned to manage his emotions properly yet. He's learning to become a better father for these traumatised yet troublemaking children in real time, and in some ways the kids are helping him mend his relationship with Esmy.

But Idk. Overall the themes I do wish to explore throughout the fic is the importance of having someone you can trust and be vulnerable with your emotions instead of bottling it up. I'm still working on the outline lol and I do not wish to spoil the events!!

And now something else. To my AF2 moots it's... kinda? AF2 related? Some of you might have been told about this but bleh here's an in-depth. kinda.

I'm a huge sucker for themes like space and cosmic existentialism. And also parent-child dynamics, as you can see with my love for PK and Hollow, and Oro and Kin, and Sly and his kids, and also sibling dynamics too. Astrarium, some sci-fi webcomic thingy I intend to do sometime later in life, is basically that? I guess? I haven't fully figured out the worldbuilding or even the flow of the story lol.

Basically Astrarium's about two human kids who got isekai'd into a place that acts as the middle ground between abstract and concrete planes of existence. I guess. I'm sorry, it sounds really corny and cliche when I put it to writing.

But the world itself is incredibly meta. I honestly wish Adventure Forward built more into the meta themes when it already had the Narrative and Cyalm acting as its artist and creator in the foundation? The star-humanoid species here, called Asterons, are made from stardust and are basically parts of a system that helps power the Narrative, pleasing and entertaining higher beings called "The Audience" that supply stardust for them to continue existing. The Director is a powerful Asteron that controls the flow of the Narrative and ensures all the Asterons perform their part in powering the cosmic cogs of the Narrative. Does that make sense?

However, the sudden arrival of these two young humans risk ruining this seemingly perfect order and harmony that the Director has. So They will have to remove them from the equation altogether as fast as possible. By "as fast as possible" that basically means kill them. Unfortunately, a small group of Asterons who resisted the Director's control found them first. They liked the idea of sneaking out with the kids back to Earth and escaping the Narrative's strings, so they try to help. I'd love to make it that life isn't really just about fulfilling a purpose or task imposed on you. There's a certain joy in just living in the moment.

That's the general gist of it! I have some concept art about it below or smth.

Someone made a comic dub of my Oro and Lost Kin comic. Heck yeah, feels like an accomplishment. But also I'm happy that the spores are spreading!!!! like there's not enough nailmaster content on youtube (one of the only vids about them I can think of is ccmaci's theory vid about oro and mato's fallout) let alone nailmaster kin content!!!

How I ethically use genAI for my writing:

ChatGPT in particular has been so incredibly helpful in my writing process! It works perfectly in fueling my undying hatred for the slop plagiarism machine. Spite has been my singular motivator as I spend every day loathing the amount of AI covers and slop books flooding the market. AI has done what no motivational video on YouTube has managed to do: it has motivated me to sit my ass down and fucking write because I am a writer and'll be damned before I let some second hand thinker get the last laugh

You know, an interesting tumblr transformation that's happened gradually, and which I've seen no one talk about: ask-culture has essentially dropped off to nothing.

By which I mean, asks used to be WAY more of the tumblr economy. They used to be more common to send, and receive, and see. They were integral to the collaborative, forum-like behavior of old tumblr communities, not even to speak on the HUGE number of ask-blogs that used to exist to only be interacted with in ask-form.

I'm not saying this in a vying-for-attention way but instead in an observational way: I used to get way way more asks in like 2015, even with a fraction of my follower count. I wonder if it's due to the homogenization of social media sites? There's a lot more of this divide between "content creator" and "consumer" instead of just a bunch of peer blogs who would talk to each other. "Asks" aren't really a thing on twitter, are they? And as I understand it, the closest thing to an "ask" on instagram or tiktok would be a creator screenshotting some comment and responding to it in a new reel or video or whatever those content mediums are. Are asks just too tumblr-specific? Is that aspect of the site culture dying out as more and more people converge to using all their social media sites in the same way?

it's probably from assholes making asks a minefield of trolling/harassment for years with no real blocking ability, which turned people off from allowing asks on their blogs so as a whole the site moved away from it

but now that we do have better blocking, we should try to revive it.

Scav lore, they are Bug to me. hopefully you see my vision.

To expand on a few things:

- The weakest/most vulnerable part of their bodies is the shoulder socket, as it's surrounded by bare skin and the spiracle openings. The back and chest fur usually does a pretty good job of hiding it. If you were a slugcat with a spear, this is where you would want to aim.

- The spines on their back are hollow. This is mainly for communication, as they produce a louder noise when bristling (which they do when scared, angry or upset). Alongside clicking their mandibles, they can't really make any other noises and are generally silent.

- The layout of the Scavenger's key internal organs is pretty consistent amongst most other chordate-equivalent animals (paired ventral nerve cords, dorsally-placed heart, lungs/gills towards the back with nearby spiracles). It's not horrendously efficient for the more developmentally advanced creatures such as scavengers, as they're mostly holdover traits from their simpler, molluscan ancestors.

- Most of the finger joints locks together when a fist is made, absorbing shock when knuckle-walking. Scavengers communicate using sign language, so despite this their hands and finger joints are surprisingly dextrous!

What do you mean I can write a 2k long Hollow Knight one shot in my English book for a short story assignment in 2 HOURS but it takes me 3 weeks to write 200 words on my actual HK fics
