I feel that the use of crutches/medical bandages/rope in contrast to these big beefy beautiful bodies reminded me of the temporal nature of both fitness and injury. The objects became metaphorical disabilities or enhancements to their movements over time.
The theatricality of this piece is awe-inspiring. I imagine for the performers, it could be difficult to fully articulate the extent of these props. I hoped that Marie Chouinard would have chosen to include more diverse bodies within the performers. It would be interesting to see how many people in the audience would stop laughing if the performers were different.
Why are certain performative bodies more respected than others?
