Prompt 7
2 Tumblr sites which caught my eye were #worldlesspicturebooks and #tomclohosycole. Wordless Picture Books site contains images from a variety of picture books and information on how to use these types of books within the classroom to prompt a rich literacy based conversation. Tom Clohosy Cole site contains amazingly detailed and life like illustrations which have been produced for a variety of children based picture books.
Prompt 6
I would tune the students into the lesson with a discussion about the traditional custodians of the land on which their school and local community is built on. For the first lesson, I would organise an Elder from the local Indigenous Community to come and speak with the students and give them an insight of their history and their culture.
Prompt 5
Part A We sat in silence as we attempted to fathom that our exotic and strong willed Annie had died and was no longer with us. Nostalgia filled me as I remembered back to when I met Annie on our first night of year 7 camp. The pain settled in and my heart sunk, I lost all strength, my eyes glassed and a cold transparent tear ran down my cheek and onto the table where the food lies. I knew that I wasn't alone, best friends gathered together. Our hearts are hollow but would soon be filled with the memories we had with Annie. Part B Half of the world's greedy individual continue to throw and discard leftover food leaving the other half of poverty stricken individuals in starvation. Part C The teacher could conduct a prediction activity by only showing the front and back cover of the book. The students are to write a small paragraph of what they believe the book is about.
Above is a visual display of a timetable I assisted in developing for a 6 year old prep student suffering from anxiety. The class schedule does not contain any pictures only words. We noted that the timetable format caused her some stress as she found it difficult to follow and comprehend. Subsequently we developed a visual and illustrated version of her timetable. A notable and positive difference was noted as she was able to successfully read and follow the timetable by confidently interpreting the illustrations. She was able to relax and was less anxious.
