The Gentle Wind
OK FUN STORY
When I was a young preteen, having absolutely NO idea about my identity, I wrote a story (as one does). It was in first person, about a girl who fell in love with the spirit of the wind, who was also a girl.
It was the first thing I had ever created that even hinted at homosexuality, and I had myself absolutely CONVINCED it was because I wanted to “represent LGBT people in my writing.” But it felt like the most moving, romantic piece I had ever written (since the story about the Viking girl rescuing a helpless shipwrecked sailor boy).
And years later, when I finally had that “oh. OH” moment about my bisexuality, I came back to it and read it again. It was of poor quality, as my preteen writing usually was, but I felt the heart in it. It made me wonder why I hadn’t realized so much sooner.
And what’s funny about it is I had described the wind just as she looks in this picture. A wispy, ethereal spirit falling in love with a human girl. It makes me feel connected in a way, that some other sapphic artist had the exact same idea of the wind as my young self.
