leah would’ve much rather been back home in bed. if she was being honest, she’d had absolutely no desire to come to forks little fall festival. for one thing, she’d thought the whole thing was silly, just an extravagant event for kids. but seth had insisted, practically begging her to go even as he’d drug her out of the house, and try as she might she’d never been able to say no to him. so now here she was, begrudgingly trailing along behind her brother from one booth to the next as they mingled with the rest of the forks’ entire population.
she was busying herself with eyeing a little table of knick knacks at one of the booths, eyeing the little hand carved figures with amusement. it was all very kitschy; very appropriate given the festival itself. she put down the little bird she’d been looking at and turned, ready to go find seth and beg for the fifth time if they could leave when she bumped into someone. she sputtered for a moment, caught off guard as she stepped back and began to offer an apology when she saw who it was.
it felt like she’d been swept off her feet, as if the very earth beneath her was suddenly gone. leah couldn’t help the way she inhaled sharply, her lips pulled taught as something in her chest pulled tight. gravity shifted, and suddenly it was like nothing else in the world existed outside of rebecca black. something fierce fluttered in her chest as she tried to steady herself before she spoke. “ . . . bex? when did you get back? ”
the stuffiness of the room due to all the warm human bodies crammed into it was nearly intolerable , and luna was struggling to recall as to why she was even here . blah blah blah , blending in , blah blah blah . still , she would almost prefer to forgo any attempts at pretending to be human in favor of simply living out in the woods . would probably be easier , in many ways . sigh . if only she didn’t love her closet and modern conveniences so much . she noted the other vampire in the vicinity , debating on whether she should speak to her or not . such a thing was always a gamble - would the meeting produce a friend or foe ? ‘ is this really the best place to get some art practice in ? ’
iona raised an eyebrow ever so slightly, watching the other vampire from across the way. she crawled through her memories, trying to recall if she’d ever seen her over the centuries, but her face wasn’t a familiar one. placing her pencil down, she pushed the sketchbook back from her for a moment, tilting her head as she watched the other. “ i like to document the places i’ve been. i draw whenever the mood strikes me, ” she countered. “ besides, i don’t think they mind the business. ” she smirked a bit as she glanced around, noting how little traffic there actually was in the little diner. she expected no less from a small town. “ i could ask you the same, you know - or are you just here to people watch? ”
─── “oh i definitely think you can, it’s the backboard i’m worried about,” rosalind calls out, arms crossed and legs dangling where she’s propped on the plywood countertop. attendant’s too skittish to bark her off. which is good for them, since ros’s two screaming teenagers and one more baby girl away from peace’ing out to crash on a gravestone. how embarrassing. “look, don’t embarrass me by tearing a hole through the tent all right? i’d hate to have to get up and show you how it’s done, ma.”
iona smirked, scoffing a little as the attendant handed her the dart. “ my control is certainly better than that, ” she teased. the human eyed the both of them with a touch of confusion, very obviously put off by their conversation but iona paid him no mind. “ are you challenging me? you better be sure you’re up for it if you are. ” she paused, glancing over at her daughter with that little smirk before she let the dart fly. a perfect bullseye, right in the center of the target. iona grinned, turning to face her fully as she picked up another dart. “ well? what do you say? ”

HEADCANONS .
leah was born and raised in la push - she’s never left, and has never planned on leaving. she’d never wanted anything more than a simple life, like her parents. for a long while, it seemed like she might actually manage to have that life; in high school, she began to date sam uley and they were happy. she was happy, but nothing good lasts forever. one day sam just up and disappeared, and when he came back things were different.
her cousin, emily, came around, and things were never the same after that. sam broke things off in an instant, and suddenly he and emily were together. it took a long time for leah to get over that betrayal, not yet realizing at the time it wasn’t something sam could control. still, in her hurt she left la push for a few months. she wanted to go anywhere she could to escape the hurt brought about by their relationship.
she stayed away for some time, only coming back after her mother told her about some of the health issues her father was beginning to have. once she did, it was only a matter of time before the increasing vampire population in forks suddenly triggered her and her brother to shift.
she has a lot of insecurities about shifting. she’s got a lot of pent of resentment still, stemming mainly from having to share her thoughts with sam still. she hasn’t thought about him that way in years, but it doesn’t make the sting of rejection any less bearable. she hates being trapped with those memories, but more than anything else she hates not knowing what that means for her future.
there’s a part of her that’s afraid to imprint. being one of the only female wolves is already a shock in and of itself, but she’s not sure what it means for her once she imprints. she resents the idea of having that choice taken away from her, instead being forced into some ill-fated match brought about by the universe.
while she may not care about a lot concerning herself and her own life, she’d do absolutely anything for brother. from a very young age, she’d dubbed herself as seth’s guardian. he may be grown now and able to take care of himself, but it doesn’t mean she’ll ever stop looking out for him.
currently works as a mechanic on the res. she picked up the skills when she was younger, working with her father and sometimes messing around with cars with jacob when she was a bit younger. she doesn’t have her own shop or anything, but rather works on commission. she’s hoping to open up her own garage at some point though.
“ oh, so you think i can’t hit it huh? ” iona laughed, one delicate eyebrow raising slightly as she smirked at her daughter. they’d come to the haunt fest merely to check it out, and while iona hadn’t been particularly excited about coming originally, she had to admit the little festival had a certain sort of charm to it. still, she found herself getting caught up in the charm of it all. maybe that was why she was so determined to win that silly little plush bear and prove her daughter wrong. holding her hand out to the attendent for the dart, she glanced back at rosalind over her shoulder with a smirk. “ watch me, baby girl. ”
