Translation [BL Beginner’s Guide - Hajimete no Hito no Tame no BL Guide: Interview 05 - Harada]
Scans by: aliasanonyme Translation by: metaphoricalicecream
EDIT: Although I have previously referred to Harada using she/her pronouns, it has since been pointed out to me that no one really know Harada’s gender. I have edited out all references to the author’s gender in this translation, and will continue on using they/them pronouns as much as possible.
Note: I’ve only included the cover page for Harada’s interview section. Please visit aliasanonyme’s blog for full scans (Harada Interview; Full Book).

There are many different ways to love. Without turning away from the dark and shameful side of those feelings, the talented artist Harada awes their readers with their gripping, erotic, and ingenious storytelling. Now, one year since their debut with their striking first comics, we ask the “revolutionary” who continues to push forward on the offensive to define the appeals of BL.

its also eternally funny to me when my exposure to Harada was mostly through people going "omg they are the EDGIEST SCARIEST DISTURBING BL MANGAKA EVERRRR (not clickbait)" and it's funny bc now that I've read almost all their main stories it's like...the main theme I feel through most of them is like. A strong sense of grounded emotion AND humor. There's lots of fucked up sexy scenarios which are very delightful (and the stories revel in it), but it feels like things always return to the Characters and how they feel most of all, whether it's love or disgust or pathetic contempt, it all feels very direct. I find the depiction of affection actually very touching–love and communication is certainly not absent from a lot of the stories, despite or maybe even because of the fucked up nature. I think actually in a lot of ways I tend to remember the affectionate parts almost more strongly than the fucked up parts and then need to remember when I'm recommending to people haha.
But then again I also don't think the actual textual things that happen in most of the stories (the noncon, various seme boundary pushiness, intense interpersonal drama) is very unique, a lot is very BL-typical--i think maybe it's the style of portraying the stories and the way physical pain and dread are visually communicated much more viscerally in contrast with the more lighthearted stuff. The style is what stands out more in the telling and is a big factor in why people will say this or that is "more realistic" than a different story with the exact same events but chosen to be drawn and paced differently.
Ohhhhh my God so you don't like it when the uke is feminized? Should we tell everyone? Should we throw a party? Should we invite the American yaoi twitter accounts

After this, they drink and fuck to Lana Del Rey, making this the most realistic yaoi manga I’ve ever read
