he rolls from his side onto his back with a pout, clearly annoyed with the fact that she’s yelled at him for simply trying to relieve himself from his suffering. with a heaving sigh, he forces himself to sit up, his blanket plummeting from being wrapped around his head to his shoulders, tousled locks managing to fall in perfect place. ❛ oh oh ! is it more poison ?! are you saving me sae-byeok ?! ❜ he takes the thermos with greedy hands and downs a large sip. immediately his eyes slam closed and he sticks out his tongue, shaking his head, ❛ this does not taste like poison. ❜ slowly, chocolate hues open up and he perks up at the mention of food, ❛ what kind of soup ? ❜
“ it is not poison. why would it be poison? if i killed you, i would have to dispose of your body. i’m sure you would make it an excruciating process, even in death. it is not worth the effort. ” besides, despite her aloof demeanor, there was nothing in her that wanted dazai dead. in fact, if she truly did not care for him in the slightest, she wouldn’t be here with an assortment of remedies. “ jook. shut up and finish your drink or you get none. ” she sets two bowls down and begins pouring portions for the both of them. “ you need to get better. i find atsushi less bearable to work it. ”

she was wrong, this was destruction. he’d danced with death more times than he could count, nothing was as horrible as this. he couldn’t remember what it was like to feel alive, to not have his sinuses clogged and his throat burning. his eyes narrow, ❛ that is the same thing. ❜ dazai watches her curiously as she digs through her bag, his eyes widening when he sees the can of disinfectant. he’s quick to open his mouth, trying to catch the spray on his tongue in the hopes that it would poison him and free him of this mortal pain. his mouth opens and closes quickly, making a quick popping noise as his nose wrinkles in disgust at the taste before he shakes his head miserably. ❛ i’ve been too weak, ❜ he whines, ❛ kunikida wouldn’t make me food. he is very evil. ❜
“ it is not. ” there were too many things wrong dazai to count, but she could start with the way he was trying to EAT the DISINFECTANT. she lets out a loud, nasally noise of detestation and disapproval. “ don’t eat it, idiot! ” maybe the spray would knock him? at least then he would be quiet. “ this is why kunikida does not want to take care of you. ” sae-byeok chastises as she brings out a thermos full of piping hot baesuk. though she could never make it as well as her mother, it had all the necessary ingredients, poached pear, black peppercorns ( perhaps too much ), ginger ( definitely too much ) and a splash of honey ( perhaps too little ). “ drink this, ” she orders, thrusting the thermos toward him, “ i’ll warm up the soup. ”

he craved death. or soup. mostly death. he was miserable, he wasn’t built for such things. illness was just another form of pain, another layer of suffering that he could not escape from. he didn’t understand why no one had discovered a way to make all illness symptoms disappear with a singular pill. he’s wrapped up in a blanket, his nose red and a near empty box of tissues sitting on the table next to him as he curls up on the couch meant for clients. ❛ sae-byeok… ❜ he reaches a shaky hand out towards her, bandaged arm squirming out from underneath the blanket, ❛ save me… i’m - ❜ he breaks out into a coughing fit, stopping them with a sharp inhale, ❛ i’m being destroyed from the inside out. end my suffering… please… ❜
𝐨𝐡 𝐝𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐠𝐨𝐝. tissues piling from over the trash can, bright red nose, the melodramatics it could only mean one thing. “ you aren’t being destroyed, you giant baby. ” she slaps his hand away, “ you’re sick. and you’re getting your sickness all over the couch. ” cheol never put on a show like this, not even when he was gravely sick with tuberculosis and on what seemed like the brink of death. sae-byeok slings her bag off her shoulder and onto the table so she can rifle through it. first things first, she takes out a can of disinfectant spray, shakes it, and sprays it directly at dazai, muttering about how gross and dirty he is. “ have you eaten? ”

“ what is wrong with you? ” she asks, as if his sickness is a personal burden to her.
