June 5th, 1942

Yesterday, we lost Yorktown. Enterprise has been inconsolable... I wish I could help her but there's really nothing I can say.

Now that I think about it, Javelin acts about my age. I wonder what people would think of a shipgirl and a human... Uh. That's just silly I don't know what I'm talking about.

I miss Ruth most at times like these...

May 9th, 1942

We tried our best yesterday but we lost Lexington.

Yorktown assures me she's fine and that she won't be next, but her injuries are hard to look at. Vestal is doing her best to help.

I know it's childish to expect all of my girls to make it out of battle okay, but I've become so close with them in our time together. They do so much for me, and I send them to die in return. It's not fair.

I hope I can visit the Royal Navy girls again sometime soon. Javelin always makes me feel better. Maybe I'll write her.

It's Easter and Laffey wanted to paint eggs. I told her that they were for eating, but she made these big eyes at me so I let her just have one. It's weird knowing I'll have to send her into battle someday...

I'm having trouble sleeping. Laffey offered to invite me to her napping club tomorrow. Apparently her and Nicholas started it? She's incredibly sweet. I wonder if this is how dads feel?

Lady Enterprise has alerted me to the presence of an odd plastic-y tablet that appeared in the harbor. It appears to be a writing device with an electronic display. Record keeping will remain on paper. Perhaps this device could be used for recreational purposes whilst the other commanders are getting the important jobs...
