mal and alina perfectly capture the feeling of being in love with your best friend. alina being smitten with mal and getting jealous of other girls flirting with mal without saying a word of it to him. mal being willing to go to the ends of the earth for alina before even realizing he’s in love with her. both of them terrified to act on their romantic feelings for different reasons—alina being insecure and thinking mal doesn’t see her that way, mal being insecure about potentially ruining the most important relationship of his life even tho he does look at alina in a more than platonic light… if you’ve ever been in love with a close friend, you know the fear and uncertainty that come with it, with the thought of changing your dynamic and the possibility of things going wrong, the possibility of losing your favorite person. they have it ALL they have all the delicious yearning and pining and unflinching commitment to each other

Six of Crows is kinda funny because at first you could be excused for thinking ‘oh, Inej feels more for Kaz than he does for her’ and then about halfway through the first book you start to get this slow realisation that just gets more and more solidified over the next book and a half that ‘oh, damn, boy’s got it bad. like bad, bad.’
