if I look very sad in your inbox will you consider please telling me more about the 1910s filet crochet heraldry and where to find that?
absolutely! i think a post goes around about this occasionally but i'm happy to contribute to knowledge of the antique pattern library
they have a fantastic range of scanned public-domain craft patterns, including vintage knitting patterns, cross-stitch, lace, calligraphy manuals, etc, but the use i and at least several other people consult them most for is the collection of filet crochet patterns, which are basically readymade pixel/gridded pictoral motifs that can be easily translated into colorwork for knitting patterns.
for example, the above bird edging (from The Priscilla Filet Crochet Book No. 2) is designed for filet crochet, but would need essentially no alteration to become a colorwork knitting pattern. some of these patterns have longer runs of one 'color' than you'd typically design in for knitting, but this is already a known problem in pictoral stranded colorwork, and adapting your technique or the pattern are both still imo less work than drafting up one's own novel bird, if that's not something you feel like doing and i usually don't
they have a lot of geometric, floral, and animal motifs but also some very fun stuff that is not really reflected in modern knitting sensibilities:
knit some incredibly sentimental pastoral scenes!! depict a mandolin!!!! the world is your oyster
