“I think that the love that Edmond feels for Mercedes can almost be divided into two periods, and distance, instead of turning it into hatred, has intensified it with fire, with the most passionate passion even against his own will. Of course Edmond would not want to continue loving Mercedes, when he finds out that she betrayed him by marrying his best friend.( Later we´ll find out that was because she was carrying the Edmond´s baby) . He feels that Mercedes has failed him, that he has betrayed his memory. And this is what he can not stand. After being locked up for 13 years at the Chateau d'If, Edmond has idealized the figure of his fiancee, and I can not blame him. Who could? After all Mercedes is described by Alexandre Dumas as the most beautiful woman in all of France. The truth, that is espoused with Fernand Mondego, his greatest enemy is what makes the hatred he feels for everyone splash his love for her. As Count of Monte Cristo his duty would be to take revenge on Mercedes, obviously. But simply when he sees her, he feels passion, and he can not. We must bear in mind that the sexual hook between both after thirteen years is superior to that of their youth, the youth of both. Obviously she has given birth to her son, a son who is of both, she has matured, and now she can offer him that love that Edmond could not even have imagined even when he was younger. This romance is epic, it is unforgettable, it was one of the reasons why this movie dragged me. I’d say it’s the most beautiful and exciting love story I’ve had to play. Because Mercedes talks about God all the time, God is the only witness between Edmond and Mercedes. I particularly remember the line where she says “God is everything, even in a kiss”. It was a real pleasure for me. Not only for worshiping this business, but for being part of my first great love story. That’s how I remember this movie, and how I remember her, Mercedes. It could not be otherwise. As Count, he fell at her feet, for she read his soul, & molded his body again for love. I just love Dagmara Dominczyk here”
