When the both of you met in the Flagship, a flicker of blue flame lit up behind his almost fluorescent yellow eyes, as if something set off in his mind. Ah, could it be…love at first sight?
Kyryll, having lived for centuries, wasn’t a stranger to love. However, it certainly has been a while since he experienced such a sudden, intense reaction within him. He blames it on you.
You, whose laughter rang out like soft chiming bells when your friend cracked a joke, who beamed in utter amusement when everyone at the table engaged in lively banter, meticulously swirling your glass with precision.
Luckily for him, you hadn’t noticed him gazing at you in awe because of the cheerful atmosphere around the both of you. He caught himself gawking just before you turned to face him, returning his usual soft grin, lips gently lifted upwards towards you as if he didn’t just catch feelings for you.
Since then, Kyryll was laser-focused on your very being. The azure-haired fae yearned to be near your presence; he desired you, like a moth attracted to the warmth of a lamp. To put it simply, Kyryll wanted to establish a relationship with you. A romantic one.
At first, he approached you while you were out shopping for groceries at Nasha Town, initiating conversation.
“Ooh, you’re Flins, right? We’ve met before during a gathering!”
“Indeed. I must say, you have a good eye for picking out the finest fruit in the market. The ones you purchased have a shiny lustre.”
These small conversations eventually became longer ones, and now, you see him almost every other day to share your thoughts. You would meet up with him at Speranza, where the both of you got to know each other better.
All of a sudden, Kyryll began gifting you small items. The first time you received something from him, it was a small gemstone. These gifts gradually seemed more expensive, and you started feeling bad for him, thinking his wallet must hurt.
So, Kyryll found other things to gift you. He surprised you with a mini bouquet of frostlamp flowers, recalling the time you mentioned loving the bluish-pink gradient on the dainty petals. Upon the sight of the bouquet, you were over the moon, and very impressed with the effort he put into making the bouquet. You couldn’t help the subtle shade of pink that dusted your cheeks, clutching the fae’s handmade gift in your hands as he takes note of your blushing.
More time passed, and you’ve reached the point where the both of you are…really good friends?
Honestly, it’s hard to tell. Kyryll offers you to his lighthouse to stay over, and even makes meals for you at times. He celebrates with you when you successfully made a good catch, smoking the fish you caught that day and sharing a hearty dinner. He loves speaking with you and always gives you a listening ear. He drops compliments; your outfit matching your mood, your hair being neatly arranged, the brooch you wore on your blouse which enhanced your appearance, and many more.
Sometimes, you sit next to him on the modest leather couch, unconsciously leaning against him. If you fell asleep reading your book, the fae would gently remove the book from your grasp and set it on the table before draping a blanket over you. Kyryll, being the gentleman he is, also offers his hand whenever you go to Nasha Town with him. You share your knowledge of the plants native to Nod-Krai, carefully explaining each flora’s characteristics.
You’ve always assumed that his actions were just a part of his nature, because of the way he carries himself like a nobleman. Therefore, you were painfully oblivious to his courting.
That doesn’t mean you didn’t feel anything, though. When Kyryll places yet another gift on your desk, or when you take your hand in his on the journey from the lighthouse to Nasha Town, your heart beats a little faster. He’s just displaying chivalry towards me, don’t think too much about it!!!
But is it really just an act of chivalry?
Kyryll decided today was the day his courting would end, and was finally going to ask you about your relationship with him. He knew that despite your obliviousness toward his courtship, you were developing feelings for him.
Standing at the viewpoint of the lighthouse, gazing towards Piramida, you let the chilly northern wind blow on your face, hair flowing along the breeze. With the fae beside you, you brushed your shoulder against his, leaving little to no space between the both of you. You felt comfortable enough to maintain close contact with him.
“The air is so crisp and refreshing atop the lighthouse.” You spoke.
“Yes. I appreciate Nod-Krai’s weather—cold, but not freezing.” Kyryll replied.
Neither of you uttered a word for a moment, before he broke the silence.
“Say…have you ever experienced warmth in this environment? Not one from a fire, but one through something, or someone.”The fae asked.
“Hmm…”
Your eyes landed on your hands, clasped together as you fidgeted with them. The first person to appear in your mind was the gentleman beside you.
“Yeah, I guess you could say that…you’re the one who has evoked this warmth in me.” You muttered, averting your gaze from him.
Your answer confirmed his inference, and his face visibly lit up in delight.
“Are you aware that I have been reciprocating your feelings too?”
“A-Ah..?” you reeled, almost stumbling backwards. Kyryll caught you by the waist before your back met the steel deck, which made you more flustered. In an attempt to hide your crimson red face, you brought your palms up to shield your face from his sight, embarrassed.
Your brain short-circuited. Huh??? So all the gifts, the offer to the lighthouse and the chivalrous actions were intentional?
Pulling you back upright, the fae took both your palms away from your face, leaving your flushed appearance in clear sight. How he loved the way you were flustered when it was evoked by him. In a soft, warm voice, he called your name.
“You must know that I have developed romantic affection for you. Did my courting work?”
“I…I…”
“I knew it did, otherwise you wouldn’t have made such a huge reaction.”
He wasn’t wrong, although you were too shy and embarrassed to admit it. Kyryll chuckled, pulling you closer to him.
“Might I ask you if I could take you as my romantic partner?” He requested, eyes fixated on your smaller frame.
Your heart skipped a beat, your entire being screaming “yes” but your mouth was sealed shut. Instead, you nodded, before embracing your new lover in a last attempt to hide your face, now red with glee.
Returning the hug, Kyryll ran his fingers through your hair, relishing the familiar strands as the two of you remained on the lookout deck.
When you calmed down, you looked up at your partner, admiring his features.

"Why do you look so surprised? Have you never seen me pick up a brush before?
This is just a traditional craft that has been passed down for ages among the people of Liyue, and it now comes naturally to me after having seen it done many times. And besides, I had their help."
"He is amazing! He painted all these fish lanterns!"
"Ahem. You may want to give it a try yourself if you have the time. Mixing colors, drawing the outlines... It's not that complicated. Feel free to ask me if you have any questions."
Fanfiction is supposed to be cringy. You're allowed to write bad. You're allowed to be cringe. Fanfiction is supposed to be self indulgent. You're allowed to be cringe. Let yourself be cringe. Fanfiction is supposed to be fun. Stop putting arbitrary rules on yourself and be free.
[Note from Rae:] aaaaaaaaa I'm back with something new! :3 As the title of this fic states, Flins will be gifting you a candle (˶˃ ᵕ ˂˶) Actually, I do have another fic collecting dust in my notes app...but it's a pretty dark one which is only like what, 4/5 complete??
Anyways, I hope you enjoy this piece!!
💜✨ 🕯️✨💜
When you unwrapped the simple brown paper, an unscented wax candle greeted you. It had no scent, neither did it have any particular colour, nor did the candle have any carvings. Its only purpose was to be lit with a flame.
After you shared with him how you missed his presence next to you when he went out on duty, the fae immediately went to the best candle shop in Nasha Town to purchase a candle.
However, you weren't going to light the candle with matchsticks. Instead, Flins gifted you this candle so that he could light the wick with an azure flame. The flame is part of his soul, so you would be able to have him by your side wherever you went. The best part? The flame doesn't get put out by wind, and it sure doesn't burn stuff, making it all the more easier to bring the candle and the tiny around.
Despite being able to hear your conversation with him through the flame, Flins is unable to reply with his voice. So, he controls the flickering of the flame to communicate with you, and you were quick to decipher what each flicker meant.
When the flame flickers vigorously, it expresses the fae's delight to see you (when you leave the candle out of his sight of you). Depending on the context, he could be chuckling upon hearing you mention something hilarious during the day. On rare occasions, the vigorous flickering could also indicate that he's alarmed.
When the flame flickers idly, Flins is listening intently to what you have to say. What you don't see is that the fae beams while listening to your voice, as he always does when he's with you. Why would he not smile for his lover?
The flame burning a bright hue of blue means Flins is probably in stitches, trying his best to laugh like a civil human but absolutely failing to do so. Anyone who's near him would spot him doing his utmost to keep himself composed, before returning to his elusive demeanour. Once, you told him a joke you couldn't understand, and he burst out laughing, scaring Illuga who was by his side on a mission. It turned out that it was a centuries-old joke, back when fae still roamed the land, and the fae hadn't heard it in gosh knows how long. Illuga just discovered a whole new expression from Flins he thought would never witness during his lifespan.
Often, you'd find the flame dim and small, as Flins is in deep thought. He does the same in times when he hears that your day went rough.
Sometimes, you'd reach a finger out towards the flame, allowing it to touch the flame. Obviously, it didn't hurt. In fact, the azure flame feels slightly cool to the touch. You swore you could feel a tiny hand wrapping around your finger whenever you touched it, and it was pleasant to hold. After all, Flins could feel your touch and reciprocate it as long as you had physical contact with the flame.
You brought the candle up to your face to admire the flickering flame, and the fae was well aware of that, sensing your presence. Ah, it seems that his lover is appreciating its beauty. He flickered brighter, the small tongue of flame tickling your face.
What Flins did not expect was for you to lean a hair closer to the flame...before giving it a kiss. And where did the feel the kiss? On his lips!!
The fae was visibly flustered, the tips of his ears dusted pink when the feeling of your lips parted. Giggling, you watched as the flame burned an intense electric blue. Knowing very well that he could hear you, you muttered to the flame,
"I hope you received the kiss there, but most importantly, I hope it felt just like the ones we share."
You are definitely in for a one-hour session of kisses the moment Flins returns from his lightkeeper duties.

⸝⸝⸝♡ ⸝⸝⸝♡ ⸝⸝⸝♡ ⸝⸝⸝♡ ⸝⸝⸝♡
Xiao. The classmate of yours who rarely interacts with others in class. he's the type of classmate whom people often forget due to their elusiveness and lack of presence, blending in with the wall.
Just like your classmates, you barely know anything about him either, having only worked with him once for a literature project. Well, you mostly did the talking, initiating discussions and providing ideas while he took down your words for the written part of the project, simply nodding or replying with short and dry responses. Once the lesson ended, Xiao would be the first to leave the class without leaving a trace. You'd turn away to keep your notebook for a second and find that your partner already left the classroom, chair tucked under the desk as if nobody sat there in the first place.
Despite that, you still treated Xiao like you would to any other. Keeping your spirit up and helping wherever he was stuck in the project. Ain't that teamwork? After all, you were playing your part and supporting your team members.
Apart from that instance where the both of you worked together, neither of you talked much afterwards, going back to your close friends while he faded away into the background, seemingly content with living in the background as the mysterious classmate and going with the flow of the school routine. Weaving through classes seamlessly without seeing a need to have conversations in between them. That's just how he is.
Besides, it's not like he's someone you wanna know better right? Sure, he's got unique red eyeliner highlighting his cat eyes and amber orbs, and you'd be lying if you didn't mention that his aloof personality combined with his elusive self made you interested in him. It's kinda...cute, you think. Catching yourself thinking about liking someone you aren't even friends with made you push your thoughts about him into your sub-consciousness, almost paying no mind to it.
Unbeknownst to you, Xiao had been swayed by you.
First, it came as a tiny prick of a needle in his arm, the ones nurses administered vaccinations with. At first, Xiao brushed it off, thinking it was just another pesky thought of his that proved to be insignificant. Then, it felt like someone's hand tapping on their shoulder. Again, he brushed it off, yet his mind couldn't help but bring it up subtly, pestering him. Soon, it became a part of his conscience, thoughts and feelings that he couldn't understand arose. The enigmatic man got extremely exasperated, struggling to comprehend why you were in his mind 25/8. Unable to interpret his own emotions about you, he sought his father figure, Zhongli, for an explanation.
"Ah, it seems your heart has fallen for her." Zhongli pours the both of them a warm cup of tea, sliding the cup over to a desperate Xiao sitting on the opposite side, the gentle sound of ceramic scraping over a wooden table receiving the cup with tense fingers.
"But...how do I show it to her? It's not like I can just go up to her. We don't even talk..."
"Oh, but do you know there's a special day coming up soon? Perhaps you could seize the opportunity to let her know, maybe even take her out. That is, if you would like to leave a lasting impression on her."
After listening to the wise words of his father figure and with lots of encouragement from Zhongli, he finally mustered the courage to write a letter to you, planning to slip it into your locker during when the day arrives.
Not long, February rolled in with Valentine's Day in tow. Flowers, Chocolates and cards were exchanged with friends and schoolmates confessed to their crushes while couples shared their gifts.
As per usual, you gifted and received gifts from your friends and felt pretty satisfied. Since you didn't really have a crush in particular except thoughts about Xiao rising up from your sub-conscious, and neither did anyone like you romantically, you weren't expecting much, instead teasing your friends about their crushes or people crushing on them.
While opening your locker to retrieve your items at the end of the day, you were greeted with a small letter fluttering out, catching it before it reached the ground.
The card was sparsely decorated with stickers, and in it was a straightforward message:
"I don't know why I feel this way about you.
But, I would like to meet you if you're free.
In other words, I think I like you.
So, happy Valentine's."
Judging from the handwriting, you recognized it as Xiao's.
Wait. XIAO?! OF ALL THE PEOPLE YOU KNOW??????
As you were processing the letter, you failed to notice Xiao approach you. Upon clearing his throat, you jumped, almost dropping the letter.
In his hands he held a small boquet of flowers, facing it towards you. With a hint of awkwardness and shyness, he offered you the boquet, looking away to hide his face. His ears were a deep shade of rose.
Still reeling in from everything that had just unfolded, you gingerly brought his gift into your hands, closing your locker door. Silence stood between the both of your for a solid minute as you watched Xiao find the words he wanted to say. Eventually, he was able to look at you in the eye, arms stiff and face flushed.
"...I would like to take you out on a date."
Now, it was your turn to feel heat creeping up your cheeks as you hear his sudden request.
Xiao, the classmate who appeared and disappeared whenever he desired, who kept to himself, is asking you out??! Although, a part of you left hidden in your sub-conscious did hope that something like this would happen...
Elated, you flashed a warm grin, cheeks still hot, and nodded.
"That sounds nice Xiao, where should we go?"
