The Photography of JDB

Each of the four seasons is granted their reign over the kingdom by Mother Nature.

Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter are deeply protective of their time, holding their covenant with great seriousness. Each believes their season to be the greatest of all.

They strive to impress their mother, presenting their own version of perfected beauty. The sibling rivalry between them runs strong.

Yet there is a brief moment—often overlooked—where something greater than pride takes hold.

When the transition of seasons begins, it becomes possible to witness them set their pride aside, tending carefully to the passing of the crown.

In that overlap, they do not compete.

They cooperate.

And as the crown is passed, Mother Nature lingers in that moment—

for it is not in their individual reigns that she sees perfection,

but in the brief harmony where they become one continuous whole.

We all have closets in the back of our minds,

at the edge of the void where consciousness loses its reach.

Most seal the door with the skeleton key of their subconscious,

locking away skeletons crafted from suppressed memories

and forgotten ideas,

hanging by nooses woven from emotion and trauma.

Left unattended, they decay,

fading as consciousness fades.

Yet there are a few who, though their closets remain shut,

leave them unlocked.

The light of self-awareness is left on,

bathing the skeletons that have fallen from their nooses

onto the floor of understanding.

There, flesh grows back upon the bones,

and the subconscious feeds on this through self-awareness,

nourishing the intellect.

What was once hidden becomes fuel,

driving us toward understanding.

Autopsy Before Death: A JDB Observation

From a distance, the patterns are unmistakable. The species fractures itself into smaller and smaller identities such as religion, politics, and class. Abandoning clarity and reason, each is convinced it is defending the truth, maintaining order, or ensuring survival through tribalistic beliefs that have grown so strong and rigid that they would rather die than seek the alternative. Yet no external threat presses upon them with the force they apply to one another. Resources are abundant, knowledge is accessible, and cooperation remains possible. Huddled within their self-defined groups, what they call progress is often just reinforcement of division. Humanity is blind to the reality that it is being euthanized by the needle in its own hand.
