What Autistic Loneliness Feels Like

(From my IG blurb)

Hi! I made this while I was in a funk and learning more about myself and why, even with friends and in good company, why I always felt so lonely and misunderstood. After accepting that I am on the spectrum, many things clicked for me. Why I did some things. Why I pushed people away, even when I wasn't trying to. Why do I feel so lonely and why do I strongly react to it. I am in the firm camp that describing autism, outside of medical terms, is a personal thing. I do not need silly symbols, flags, or puzzle pieces to define what autism is to me. Instead, I would like to open a very personal part about me and what I have dealt with for the majority of my life- being misunderstood and alienated and what that did to my mental well-being. The sketch me of hugging someone of importance, was my mask. While I did it pretty well, numerous times the mask will have glitched out, risking exposure to who I truly am. Her hair is attached to the core, the real me. At the time, she was feeling lonely and afraid again, and does not know how to react to this feeling but to cry. A lot.
