[Late Birthday Post]

My 21st birthday was actually two weeks ago on the 12th but I was lucky enough to celebrate it three times with people I love over the span of two weeks. <3 

- 09. 03. 2017 - When my two favourite idiots made me walk two blocks to a different branch of the same ‘soy sauce’ steakhouse, and proceeded to surprise me with a ridiculously delicious chocolate cake. Thing was, I never expected them to celebrate my birthday early but so long as you two were here with me, I’m already the luckiest girl in the world <3 Thank you for taking the most “MK” sticker photos with me ever <3 

- 12. 03. 2017 - My birthday clashed with my Shakespeare midterm. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a huge nerd for Shakespeare so it was already pretty perfect that I got to just lose myself in Macbeth for a couple of hours. My mom dragged me out though, after I handed the essay in to pick up my -- wait for it -- Strawberry Sponge and Cream Cheesecake <3 Plus we had a whole arrangement of my favourite take out food for dinner <3 They say how you spend your birthday will be how you spend the rest of your year -- Shakespeare, family and good food? Sign me up! 

- 17. 03. 2017 - I did not expect the girl’s night out that I had planned with my best friend from high school on St. Paddy’s Day to turn into a semi-birthday celebration. We went straight to our go-to bar, Orange Peel for their Hamiltunes event (Hamilton tunes karaoke with Hamilton fans), had back to back (lost count) glasses of white and red, pizza, boozy and delicious milkshakes (mine was the Drunken Monkey that had banana bourbon and vanilla ice cream) and caught up with hours of non-stop gossip that’s way too TMI for this post. <3 8 years since I met Kat and still going strong <3 Wish the rest of gang weren’t halfway across the world though <3

There were sparkles of the afternoon sun in the shadows on her knee. Her brightly red cropped pants stretched tight as her legs moved in a circular motion against the wheels of the worn down bicycle. The air smelled of cigarettes and a musky sandalwood cologne. She stopped at the entrance of the street, where short buildings were lined up on one side — Tong Laus. The buildings ranged from three to ten stories high. Each was painted in a different colour; butter yellow, smokey grey, cerulean blue, pale purple and mint green. They were each weathered down with the paint coming off in chunks, revealing the dirty, stained concrete underneath like an undressing prostitute. The bottom floor of each Tong Lau was split into twos or threes, rented out as shops. Few were like Grandma Yuet’s. She owned the shortest building in the collection. The smokey grey one that stood on the corner of the block. Katherine gently pushed her bike and parked it by the tallest tree in the row of banyans. The trees stood across from the Tong Laus, their twisting red roots casting whiskery shadows on them. They would sway to welcome her home.
