Yamagishi Ryoko - Siren (1977)
It has been some time since we released Seraphim, but here we are with the first story from Siren: Siren. This one too is from 1977, but was published in Hana to Yume, unlike Seraphim. The color illustration that graces the cover of the volume is also what made the translator make platypus get this particular tankoubon.
Special thanks to Key for accepting to battle physical raws for us (for many, many projects) and to Amity33 for not letting me succumb to using Google Translate for the speech bubbles in Greek.

Now there is only one more story left from this Yamagishi oneshot collection.
Yamagishi Ryouko - Pannychis (1976)
With this, all three stories in Siren are scanlated now!
This story takes its name from an actual poem, André Chenier's Pannychis. I want to leave it here as well, because poetry translation is another level and I'm far from anywhre near that level:
A nicer English translation of the poem is available in Eleanor Farjeon's The Little Bookroom, so I urge you to read that.
The beautiful double spread above is also used as the cover of another Yamagishi compilation, Syrinx Pan.

Dorian Red Gloria aka Eroica - colour pin-up illustration for Princess (1981) - Yasuko Aoike 60th Anniversary Artbook: Contrail
i don’t trust lgbt book recs coming from this site ever because it’s either like “this gay subplot romance isn’t important at all and doesn’t happen until the very end but yay for scraps ❤️” or it’s like “this trans rep/gay romance is a side dish to a viscerally upsetting plot rife with sexual assault handled with no nuance and in fact let me titillate you with it with no warning but yay for gay people uwuwuwuwu” or “this book is bad. it’s shittily written. but you will love it because i said it has rep 😉”
A few lgbtq books I’ve read that I actually enjoyed:
The Errant Prince - Sasha L. Miller
Dreams of Fire and Gods (trilogy) - James Erich
No.6 (nine novels) - Asano Atsuko (you can read a great translation here)
The Song of Achilles - Madeline Miller
Kill the Farm Boy (it takes a little longer and it’s not as prevalent as the others but god do I love Fia) - Delilah S. Dawson and Kevin Hearne
Autonomous - Annalee Newitz
The Water Goes Drip Drop - Feng Qi Lian Yi (this is a horror novel so beware about that… Also, great translation here)
Once & Future - Cori McCarthy
Of Fire and Stars - Audrey Coulthurst
The Bones Beneath Our Skin - TJ Klune (has like one graphic scene, but I skipped it entirely and missed nothing plotwise)
The Seafarer’s Kiss - Julia Ember
Antisocial - Heidi Cullinan
The Mermaid, the Witch, and the Sea - Maggie Tokuda-Hall
Merchants of Milan - Edale Lane
The Empress of Salt and Fortune - Nghi Vo
The House in the Cerulean Sea - TJ Klune (honestly my fave right now, it’s so Ghibli-esque and I love it)
