~Opa’s Taylor Hut~

Taylor Peak is just shy of 14,000 feet and one of the big ones in between Aspen and Crested Butte, CO offering some really stellar mountaineering and riding if you get it good.  Book the Opa’s Taylor Hut, pack your overnight kit, skin up that Split, shed some layers and prepare for 7+ miles of mellow climbing and a little basic navigation over Taylor Pass.  Got blown off the mountain this trip but the Sub Alpine Forest Gullies were pinnacle.

Resorts have been strategically placed all over the world to take advantage of naturally occurring radical terrain.  Poke around at the top of most Resorts in the Pacific Northwest, Sierra’s, Wasatch or Rockies and you’re sure to find gates granting you access to unspoiled goods.  Off the top, out the back.  Sugar Bowls, Aspen, CO.

~Dirksen Derby 9~

This post has ZERO Splitboard photos in it.  Quick trip to Bend, OR to ride Mt. Bachelor and test my skills in the Dirksen Derby 9 Splitboard Race!  Nothing like some Nuclear Winter Volcano Boarding to start this winter off right. The reason there aren’t any Splitboard photos in here?  The Sky puked snow..  For days..  We rode lifts, we hiked the Cone, competitors went fast, pros were there.  The Splitboard race was really fun.  Up the 💚course, transition, down the ❤️course, transition, uphill across the finish💪.  Socializing, snowboarding, racing, pumping, speed, first chairs, skins, poles, art shows, video premiers, friends, and a lot of snow.  Thank you Josh Dirksen!

9th Annual Dirksen Derby - Film Festival Intro Presented by Salomon Snowboards 

The Dirksen Derby Film Fest is a collection and viewing of short 2-10 minute film and 2-3 minute photography slideshows from members of the Snowboard and Sit-Ski community. The top 3 film and top 3 photography edits of the Film Fest will be recognized and presented with trophies during the Awards Ceremony at Mt. Bachelor. The mission of the event is to raise money for our friend Tyler Eklund while giving the Snowboard and Sit-Ski community a place to share their adventures and travels from the previous seasons.

Dirksen Derby Film Fest Intro riders  are: Josh Dirksen, Gus Warbington, Peter Butsch, Alex Lopez and Adam Haynes.

~Exploration Mission~

Skinned up the Salomon 156 Split and ventured out to Uneva Peak yesterday.  Uneva’s in the Southern Tip of the Gore Range in Colorado and tops out at about 12380 feet.  Things are filling in nicely👌❄️.  Explore.

This Winter has been interesting to say the least. Record low snow packs in the NW & resorts closing every week. Perfect for taking the time to explore new spots & finding good snow where you least expect it. 📷: Buster Tronolone

~Dark Woods~

The Derby Split is short, light and quick. Perfect for skinning up and floating through Dark Woods where the snow stays cold and you gotta be nimble to navigate your way to the good stuff.

~Early Season~  

There are usually a few good storms. Mountains aren’t open yet and Patrol is prepping everything for the upcoming Winter. Blasting, boot packing, making it safe for all the Terrestrial Boarders who will be coming in droves for opening day. Perfect opportunity to get my legs back and enjoy some time in the Mountains. Aspen Highlands has some of the best In-Bounds Lines in Colorado so this past December I skinned up my Derby and let it Rip.
