You gotta start with my goat
he's got insane musical range so you gotta check out a few things before coming to a verdict. I'd recommend you listen to the first couple songs off each of his albums newest to oldest and if you like what you hear listen to the rest
If you like rap, you gotta check out Kosa (not to be confused with Kosa, they have the exact same names, check out the one with "If Anything Happens, I Still Love You," she's an enby artist and tied with Chris for Goat of the American Underground status. I'd recommend either starting with Sumo Package or 2025 Pack, but really anything works because she cooks so hard with each project
If you like rock, you WILL listen to Suspended 4th. They're a Japanese rock/jazz-rock band that might be the best rock band in existence, listen to Giantstamp or Travel the Galaxy, your choice
Then there's my friend's goat The Vanished People, who are simply amazing but I don't know how to describe their style. It's pretty close to J-Pop, but not quite, I'd recommend just listening to the SCHOOL TRIP EP to get a feel of their style
Then there's my other friend's goat Tanger, who you might've heard of before. I'm not too well versed in their music so I can't really give a good recommendation, but their album Prefer not to say is pretty good
For a few more rap recommendations, ilysm who I'd suggest starting with no matter how i look at it .., DYN^STY who only has 1 album out rn, Leo Pinto if you're into weird shit like I am, Paris Texas (a shit ton more main stream) who I'd suggest starting with They Left Me With A Gun, OkayKirk who I'd recommend starting with FORM3 then Fragments of a Lost Realty if you fw it, Airospace if you like their album STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN, and ZombAe if you're fine with each song being unintelligible yelling or just talking rhythmically /pos (start with deniAl)
For more instrumental shit, you gotta go with Kokonoku for Future Funk, City Pop, and Chillhop, Discoholic for Disco, death do us apart for ???? (rarely ever the crack cocaine went into 123 the longest dream I LOVE that song), (un)familiar. for a different ????, and Bastetrak for more bouncy music (heads up, decently sure they use ai backgrounds for their albums, don't think it's anywhere in their work but if that's a deal breaker that's probably good)
And remember, the best way to find obscure artists is to just listen to the discography of pretty much everyone featured on any song
