So, first I would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year! I hope everyone had an amazing holiday season and I hope everyone has an amazing start to 2026!
Now, I know I disappeared again and I'm really sorry. As they say, when it rains it pours. The last few months of 2025 were hell to put it lightly. As I said in my last post, I was recovering from appendicitis and the surgery from that, then my incision got infected. Well, that really should have been the end of it, but apparently I'm allergic to one of the medications they gave me and it really screwed me up. So that sent me back to the hospital.
Some other bad things have happened that I don't want to go into to details about, but I've been in and out of the hospital since October and I'm still not done. Right now I'm on bed rest and have a hard time walking around without help. I just want to apologize (again) because I really, really want to write, but it doesn't look like I'll be able to for the foreseeable future... So yeah, that's just an update so you guys know what's happening and why I haven't been on or around.
Hi everyone. I'm really sorry for the radio silence, but I've been recovering from surgery.
Long story short, my appendix burst and I had to have emergency surgery, but then my incision got infected and it's been a whole mess. But, I'm recovering properly now and everything is much better.
I also haven't been writing much, for obvious reasons, but I'm also not motivated. Every time I try to write more on anything I just.. go blank. I have no ideas, no motivation, nothing. I don't know when I'll feel like writing again, or when the motivation will strike. I have quite a bit written on a one-shot and I'm hoping to finish it soon if I can, but I'm not sure when I'll get around to writing the Naga Saja Boys x reader. I just don't know, and I'm sorry. I hope I get the motivation to write very soon, because I enjoy it. But I can't force myself or that will just make it worse.
Anyway, just wanted to let you guys know why I've been absent and I hope you all are doing better much than I am!

A/N: This was HARD to write. I have claustrophobia (and thalassophobia) and just yeesh. But somehow I really enjoyed it too? I worked today and am too tired to proofread. Also, if something is confusing just comment. I'll do my bet to clear it up! I hope everyone enjoys!
Here's what I imagine each of the boys look like in the story! Siren Mystery Siren Jinu Siren Romance (with pink hair) Siren Baby Siren Abby(with pinkish/red hair)
“What do you mean gone?!” Mira sneers at the innkeeper, her hands balled into fists as she stops herself from hitting her. She just let you leave? Rumi put a hand on her shoulder, gently rubbing. “Mira, calm down. Let’s hear her out.” Mira scoffs nearly bumping into Zoey as she moves to sit on one of the barstools. Zoey sits next to her and pulls her into a side hug. “We’ll figure it out, okay?” The innkeeper smiles at their reactions. “She is lucky to have friends like you.” “She was before you let her leave! Damn it… she could be hurt!”
A chuckle interrupts her anger. “She’s not right this moment, of that I can guarantee you.” A tray of snacks is set on the bar, and the innkeeper sits down. “We’ll be here for a while. I figured snacks would be welcome. Now, before we start, I think introductions are in order, no? I’m Esta.” She bows her head politely at them. “May I have your names?” “I’m Zoey!” “I’m Rumi.” Mira’s jaw twitches before she sighs in defeat. “…Mira.” Esta smiles and taps the bar, pulling out a leather journal. “Do any of you girls know what sirens are?” Her eyes trail over them all, but they stop on Rumi with a knowing look.
“Sirens? Like the human eating fish people?” Zoey asks, tilting her head curiously. “I think I read something about them once.” “Exactly like that.” Esta flips the journal open to a page full of sketches. Several show beautiful faces and others show yellows eyes with sharp teeth. “They are exactly that, but there is more to them. Sirens have a society like ours, just more… animalistic. The strong survives, the weak are killed. They travel in pods, or families, and they hunt together. Here is where they differ from us. They have a soulmate, or something similar."
“Hold on, are you telling us that ___ is a siren’s soulmate?” Zoey’s voice interrupts Esta with concern. She looks down at the journal and shivers, those eyes and teeth look anything but friendly. “Yes. She is. However, it’s not quite so simple… She’s not just one siren’s soulmate, there are five of them, a whole pod.” Esta flips the journal to a different page. “Siren pods can have anywhere from three to eight sirens in them; the average is usually about five. They’re tightknit groups that have strong connections and they’re extremely territorial. That cove you girls visited? That’s their territory.” “So… if we hadn’t visited the cove, ___ wouldn’t be gone?” Mira asks, looking between the journal and Esta. “No, not at all. She is their soulmate. She could feel them. Did you notice her spacing out after you got here? Being more restless than normal? It’s because her soul was calling out for its mates. She would have gone to them whether you visited the cove or not, it just expedited the situation.”
Esta pushes the journal towards the girls. “You can keep it for now, just give it back before you leave.” She moves around the bar to go cook breakfast. “Ah, Rumi, was it?” Rumi looks away from the journal and looks at Esta. “Yes?” “Walk with me.” She motions for her to follow as she continues to the kitchen, ignoring Mira’s protest. “I think it’s time for you to be honest, yes?” She glances at Rumi and sees her expression freeze before she puts on a front. “What are you talking about?”
Esta sighs, opening the kitchen door. “I may be old, but I’m not stupid. You’re part siren.” She points at Rumi’s tattoos. “Those. They’re from your siren blood.” She grins at Rumi’s expression and shows her own sharp teeth. “Did you know that siren blood glows?” Rumi gasps and moves closer to her. “You’re also part siren?!” “Of course. How else do you think I know so much about them? My mother was a siren.” Rumi lets out a small laugh, running a hand through her hair. “I never thought there was anyone else I… It was my mother too. She was a siren.” Esta smiles at Rumi, glad she finally admitted it. “Now, I want to talk about your friend.”
Rumi walks over to the counter, gently taking the cutting board from Esta. “Let me help while we talk.” Esta stares at her for a moment before nodding. “I’m worried about your friend. While she’s not in danger per se, she’s at risk of being in danger. Before she left, I explained what I could about sirens, but I didn’t get to explain everything. Sirens do eat humans, that’s true. But there is a way to bypass their need to do so.” “How?” Rumi asks, setting the knife down and giving Esta all her attention. “That’s my problem. I don’t know. I never got a chance to ask my mother before she passed. I know it involves a ritual, but I’m usure what it is. I was hoping your parents would be able to help.”
Rumi goes still, her eyes glazing over slightly before she shakes her head. “My mother was killed by someone named Gwi-ma; he had some weird obsession with her or something. And my father disappeared right after her death; I was raised by some relatives. I barely knew my parents… I’m sorry I can’t help.” Esta sighs, resting her arms on the counter. “It’s not your fault. I’m sure I can figure something out.” She then starts shooing Rumi out of the kitchen. “Go, I’m sure your friends are thinking I’m trying to cook you up or something.” Rumi laughs and shakes her head, pausing at the kitchen door. “Thank you, Esta.” She heads back out into the lobby; this is going to be hard to explain to Mira and Zoey.
The ocean is cold. Not just chilly, like on cool autumn mornings. No, this type of cold is bone deep. There is no sun, very little sound, and it’s driving you insane. You have been adamantly ignoring the five sirens who brought you here after they refused your pleas to go back to the surface, much to their dismay. They want you to love them. You huff, curling up in the corner of the underwater cave they brought you too. They must have been preparing for this though, because the place was occupied by some furnishings. If you could call them that.
“Please… look at me, sweetheart.” You refuse, keeping yourself as far from the submerged part of the cave as possible. You duck your head under the kelp blanket you were given and refuse to answer him. You think his name is Abby, but your mind is a little fuzzy from when they sang to you. You hear a sigh and a splash, peeking over to see that he has gone back under the water. You let out a sigh of relief, quickly getting up and heading over to the wall behind the seaweed bed they had made you. There is a crack behind the bed, hidden in the corner of the cave. It’s on the larger side and you hope you’ll be able to slip through it. You’re not sure where it goes, but anything is better than staying here with five obsessed sirens.
You shift the bed and hear another splash. You flinch and panic, shoving the bed back and crawling under the seaweed to hopefully fool them into thinking you’re sleeping. You hear a slap and what sounds like one of them dragging their tail. You peek out from the bed and see Mystery crawling up towards the makeshift table they gave you. He grunts as he uses his arms to pull himself onto one of the rocks you use for chairs. He sets a fish down and you grimace. It smells gross and it looks even worse. He glances at you and tilts his head. He's the quietest of the five, barely speaking and just staring at you. Or you think he is, as you can’t see his eyes.
“…I brought food.” He mumbles just loud enough for you to hear. You scoff slightly, looking away from him. “I can’t eat raw fish. That’s disgusting.” You don’t see him hesitate, nor do you see the slight tremble in his hands as he takes the fish and slips back into the water. You sigh and get back up, shifting the bed. It’s not like you don’t want to be with them. Part of you desires them, wants to fall into their arms and just accept their love, no matter how obsessive. But you don’t like how they’re treating you, locking you away underwater and keeping you from your friends and life on land. It’s wrong and they won’t listen to your pleas, you’ve already tried.
You grunt and push the bed away just enough to squeeze into the crack. You gasp; this crevice is a lot smaller than you thought it was. “S-shit…” You hiss, trying to keep your breathing in check. You don’t even want to think about what would happen if you got stuck here. So, you take a deep breath and exhale, squeezing your way forward. The rocks scrape and scratch your arms and legs, leaving red marks. You let out a shaky breath. ‘This was a terrible idea. What were you thinking?! Absolute idiot.’ You think to yourself, but you have no way to go but forward, you can’t turn around and you certainly are not staying.
You’re on the verge of a breakdown, your mind spiraling into every way this situation can and will go wrong. Why is this crevice so long?! Where’s the end? You let out an exhausted sigh, feeling your limbs starting to shiver from the cold. ‘What if there is no end? What if you just trapped yourself here? To die alone and without every saying goodbye.’ Your breath hitches as the thought crosses your mind before you start panicking. You shove yourself forward, your breathing getting faster and faster, thoughts sinking into the idea of you dying alone and stuck thousands of feet below the ocean.
You let out a cry, tears spilling from your eyes. ‘I can’t breathe-!’ The walls feel like they’re closing in catching and cutting your skin. ‘I’m going to die.’ That single thought plays on repeat in your head, you’re shivering, your chest in constricting. You’re going to die. Your mouth opens to gasp for air, but you feel like no air reaches your lungs. You slump forward, your head thumping on the ground. You’re dying. You can feel it, the coldness spreading through your body. You can’t move, your body feels heavy and tired. I’m going to die. Your vision goes dark, and you slump forward.
“My sweet?” Romance pulls himself into the cave, followed by Baby. Baby takes a deep breath and his eyes narrow. “Something smells off…” Romance sighs, crawling forward. “Probably that smelly fish Mystery brought her. No wonder she rejected it.” “While I agree it wasn’t the best choice, the thought was admirable, don’t be rude.” Jinu pokes his head above the water, his yellow eyes narrowing. “Where is she?” Baby pulls himself further into the cave, his arms straining. “In bed?” He mumbles, pulling himself further in.
Abby’s head emerges into the cave. “I brought some sea fruit. I hope she likes them.” He sets them on the dry part of the cave and pulls himself up, making it look effortless. Mystery stays in the water, hovering just under the surface, still nervous and not wanting to upset you again. Romance fixes a few things out of place when Baby suddenly hisses. “She’s gone.” “What?” “The hell?” “Gone where?” Baby points at the crack in the wall. “She’s gone. Gone gone.” “How did you miss that?” Romance snarls at Baby. “You chose this cave for her!” “It wasn’t there!” Baby snarls back, nearly launching himself at Romance. “I wouldn’t have chosen this place if I knew there was such an obvious escape route!”
Jinu watches them argue, his golden eyes shining in the dark as a terrible idea flashes through his mind. “Gwi-ma.” Everyone stops and the cave gets eerily silent. “It was Gwi-ma… remember what he said before we left him?” Abby growls, his eyes flashing gold. “…That he would take our mate, like we took his power.” “B-but he was trying to control the ocean, we couldn’t just let him…” “We know, Romance. He’s just pathetic, going after our human mate. Pathetic and stupid.” Baby slides back into the water, gritting his teeth in anger. Mystery pauses, listening to the ocean’s currents. “…She’s in danger, we… we have to go.”
Abby hisses, his eyes narrowing and his teeth poking out from under his lips. “We have to find her.” Romance growls, his claws digging into the stone ground beneath him. “She’s ours. No one else gets her.” Jinu snarls, his eyes nearly glowing as he dives, dragging Mystery with him as the others quickly join them. “We’ll find her. We’re not going to lose her. We can’t.” He swims quickly out of the underwater cave and into open ocean. “Split up, use our song if you have to and alert the others immediately if any of you find her.” They all acknowledge his commands and swim in separate directions. Jinu stares into the black sea, his eyes looking but not seeing. “Gwi-ma. She’s ours.” He dives deeper into the ocean, disappearing into the inky black water.
You gasp awake, drenched in sweat and still stuck in the small crevice. A shudder goes through you as the chill soaks into your damp clothes. A sob catches in your throat as you force it down, crawling forward despite the cold and pain. The walls scrape on your arms and legs, aggravating the small scratches already there and making more. You glance ahead through blurry eyes and notice there is a bit of light. Could it be the end?
You push yourself even faster, just wanting this to be over with. With another shove forward a sharp rock cuts into your knee, a quiet hiss of pain leaving you. Though you don’t have time to focus on the pain before you topple downwards. A shriek of surprise leaves you as you plummet into freezing water. A shock runs through your already cold body as you flail to reach the surface. You break through with a gasp, but you see no outcrop for you to climb onto. You start shivering. ‘No, no, no, no! Shit no! I don’t want to d-die here!!’ You weakly start swimming in a random direction, not getting far when you feel something brushing your legs. A terrified cry leaves you, but there is nowhere for you to go.
You feel cold webbed hands grip your shoulders from behind and a woman’s voice. “Shh, sink into oblivion.” She whispers, brushing her sharp teeth on your neck. You lurch in her grasp, trying to escape with a gasp and a sob. She chuckles, spinning you around to face her. You can barely make out her features through your blurry and slowly fading vision. Her long black hair brushes your cheeks as she leans in close. “Sleep.” The last thing you feel in her lips on yours before your plunged into the frigid water, then darkness.
You wake much slower this time, your mind a fuzzy mess and shivers raking up your spine. You can barely think straight, but your eyes manage to focus on a cold blue light flickering in the corner of the room. “I see you like my jellyfish lamp.” You roll your head to look at the other side of the room where the voice came from. There stands a woman, she looks to be in her mid-forties, she has long black hair and brown eyes, but it’s the scales on her arms and legs that catch your attention.
“What? Never seen a siren’s human form before?” She rolls her eyes and walks over to you, pressing a hand to your forehead. “Mm, fever. You human folk are so weak. Can’t handle a little freezing water.” You try to say something, but all that comes out is a whimper. ‘S-so cold… where am I? W-who is she? I c-can’t… t-too cold… too tired…’ She walks over to a table of sorts and pulls out several gross looking things. “I can help with the fever, and get you warmer, but you’ll owe me.” Her eyes flicker over to you, and she notices you’re barely conscious enough to understand her. She sighs and crushes up the items she has, mixing them with some water and walking over to you.
“Mouth open.” She taps your lips, and you do as she wants, nearly gagging when she pours the liquid down your through. “I know, you humans find our food and medicine disgusting, but it will bring that fever down.” She moves again but you can’t see her, but you do feel when something warm drapes across you. “Sleep. You need it. We’ll talk when you wake.” You blink at her, vaguely nodding your head. ‘She’s not outright hostile, but she’s not friendly either. What could she want?’ You don’t dwell on the thoughts much more and let yourself be swept away to rest.
You fade in and out of consciousness, trying to keep an eye on the strange woman… siren. Sometimes it sounded like she was talking to someone, but there was no one there. Other times she stared at you, looking deep in thought, and sometimes it was her sitting next to you, mumbling about something you didn’t understand.
When you finally wake, your mind clearer and your fever is gone, you realize just how dangerous your situation is. This female siren could have killed you, but she didn’t. Why? She must have a reason. A shiver goes down your spine and you wish you were back with the boys, at least they were safe. You slip out of the bed and go to open the door when she enters. “Oh? You’re awake. Good.” She closes the door behind her and gestures for you to sit back down. “Sit, please. We have a lot to speak about.”
You reluctantly do as she asks, keeping a safe distance from her. She notices and laughs. “You think I couldn’t rip your throat out? Oh, you sweet naïve thing.” She bares her sharp teeth and smirks. “You owe me for saving you. How do you plan to repay me?” ‘Damn, I knew it. She wants something from me.’ You tense up, so many thoughts run through your head on what she could want. “You do a favor for me, and I let you go back to shore. Simple.”
“W-what kind of favor?” You hate how she grins at you, like you just walked right into her trap. “I need you to retrieve something for me. You see, I’m indebted to a rather… unfriendly person and he needs me to get something for him… Only I can’t.” Her grin turns sharper, and she stares right into your eyes. “But you can.” She walks over to a bottle full of a strange blue liquid. “If you drink this, it will give you forty-eight hours to get me what I need. If not… well, I can just eat you. I’m sure you’d make a delicious meal.”
You flinch at her statement, your mind going back to when you watched the boys kill the innocent fisherman. “…Alright. But what am I looking for?” With a wave of her hand, she motions for you to follow her. You walk out of the room and notice this place is made out of coral. “My brother helped me carve this place … before he was killed.” She whispers, a note of sadness in her tone. “Wow, how did you do this? It’s amazing… Oh, I never asked for you name?” You ask, looking at her back, noticing several large scars. “Celine, yours?” She asks as she opens a door for you. “___.” You tell her your name as you enter, gasping softly at all the different treasures and scrolls.
Celine pushes past you, letting you gawk as she rummages for something specific. “Here.” She sets a scroll down on the table, unrolling it. “This is the Sea God’s Trident. This is what I need you to fetch for me.” You move around the table to look at the trident. It’s beautiful, a light pearl white with swirls of pink, blue, and gold. “It’s gorgeous. Where is it?” Celine sighs, her hair shifting to cover her face. “That’s the hard part. It’s hidden.” She pulls out a map, drawing several lines on it. “This is where we are, my home. From here you need to go down into this trench, where you’ll find ruins at the end. There will be a cave in those ruins, a cave that harbors an air pocket.”
You study the map, regretting everything that led you to this point in time. “I… That’s so deep… There is no way I’ll survive going down there. And why can’t you get it? You can obviously shift.” Celine laughs, rolling the scrolls back up. “You really are naïve to our ways. Yes, I can shift, but only for a few hours before I have to get back to water. If not, I’ll wither, like a plant with no water. And don’t worry about your silly little human lungs, I told you, drink this and you’ll be safe to dive down there for forty-eight hours.”
As you stare at her and then you glance around the room, your mind wanders to the boys. You still feel the tug, the desire to be with them and honestly? Right now, that sounds heavenly compared to what’s happening to you. And honestly? You just want to see them. They might have been idiots when you first met and have definitely done bad things, you want the comfort your soul felt when around them. You want to feel that warmth again. You debate on whether you should ask Celine about them, what could go wrong? “Celine… Um, I just wondered… These five sirens I know, they… we’re evidently mates? They’re probably super worried, is there any way I could see them? Or t-they could come help me?”
Celine’s eyes sear into yours, her pupils narrowing. “…What are their names?” She already knows, of course, but if you can just tell her… You suddenly feel very uncomfortable and shake your head. “N-never mind… let’s just do this.” After all, she didn’t give you much of a choice. You don’t like the look in her eyes as she hands you the bottle. “Down the hatch.” You take a deep breath and pinch your nose, grimacing at the bitter taste and slimy texture. ‘That’s disgusting.’ You gag, covering your mouth as your stomach rolls in discontent.
Celine laughs and pulls you with her out of the coral house and into a vast underwater cave. It’s all water, except the small outcrop of rock the house is on. “I’ll lead you to the entrance of the cave, the rest is up to you.” She hands you the scroll wrapped in seaweed. “It’s waterproof.” You hesitate as she jumps in, popping back up in her full siren form. “Come on, didn’t I tell you what the drink would do? My bad. You’ll be a siren in the water.”
You still hesitate but jump in anyway. It’s strange, the feeling of being shifted and shaped into a different form. It was agonizing too. Feeling your bones snap and bend as needed, your legs fuse together. It was agony. You gasp for breath once the transformation is finished with the gills on your neck flaring as you breathe in water. Celine circles you, giving you a full view of her siren form. She’s beautiful and deadly. She laughs are your clumsy attempts to swim, shaking her head as she swims behind you and straightens your tail. “Now, move like you would if your human legs were together. Maybe? I don’t know the human equivalent to how it feels.”
You try and fail, over and over again. When you finally get it, Celine grabs your hand and quickly swims towards the entrance to the cave. “This is where I leave you… Be careful. I need you to come back alive so you can give me the trident.” She hesitates, her hand hovering before she pulls back.
“Oh, and watch out for the local fauna… They’re less than friendly.” She grins and darts back into the cave, leaving you floating on the edge of an abyss. You feel the panic grip at your heart as you stare down into the nearly pitch-black ocean. You take one look back at the cave and you feel so utterly alone. You take a shuddering breath and swim down, trying to stay focused. If you let your mind wander, you’ll just send yourself into a panic. The darkness swallows your figure as you descend into the ocean’s depths.
“Shit…. Are you telling me that you’ve been part siren this whole time and you just never thought to tell us?” Mira scowls at Rumi, her arms across her chest. Rumi flinches at her tone, nodding and nervously rubbing her arms. “Yeah…” Zoey looks between the two. “That’s actually really cool… but why wouldn’t you tell us sooner?” Rumi sighs and moves closer to them, wanting to pull them into a hug, but unsure if they would want that. “I wanted to, but I was scared. Admitting my mother was a mythical creature? Seems pretty crazy right?”
Mira grunts and tugs her into a hug. “Yeah… but we love you Rumi. We know you, so of course we wouldn’t think you’re crazy.” There is a moment of silence before Zoey breaks it. “Okay, maybe a little- BUT we know you wouldn’t just spout some crazy nonsense without a reason.” She wraps her arms around Rumi’s back and presses her face into her shoulder blades.
Rumi blinks softly and hugs Mira back. “I love you guys so much.” Zoey gasps and pulls back. “Okay, but can you turn into a siren in the water?!” Mira pulls back to look at Rumi with a smirk. “Yeah. Can you?” She teases, squeezing Rumi’s arm. Rumi clears her throat and looks away, her cheeks softly flushed. “…Yes, if I want to.” “OMG WE NEED TO SEE THAT!!!” Zoey squeals, spinning Rumi to face her and squishing her cheeks. Rumi pushes her hands away. “Okay! Okay! Later! We have to help ___ remember? That’s out priority right now.”
“Oh yes.” Zoey tempers her excitement and wraps her arms around Rumi. “Soooooo- What’s the plan?” “We go back to the cove.” Rumi decides, gently prying Zoey’s arms off her. “It’s our best bet since the sirens she’s mated too live there.” Mira nods, taking Zoey’s arm and dragging her towards the stairs. “Let’s go get ready and meet outside in five.” As they disappear upstairs, Rumi goes and sits outside. “My mother and father did it… I know we can figure out some way to help ___.”
She stands when she hears Zoey and Mira’s footsteps. They both come down in t-shirts and jeans, holding their swimsuits. “We’re ready!” Zoey bounces over to the jeep, hopping into the backseat. “So, what exactly are we going to do?” Rumi sits in the driver’s seat as Mira climbs into the passenger seat. “We need to find the sirens first; they’re not going to let us get close to ___. Not right now.”
The drive isn’t long and the quiet is filled with questions from Mira and Zoey. When she pulls into the parking space and gets out, she notices a bag down on the beach. She jogs down to the beach and picks up the bag. “It’s __’s bag.” Mira glances down the beach as Zoey points out some footprints. “There, she went back into the cave.” “And she came back.” Ira notices, following the footprints to the water. “She went in. Willingly?” Rumi nods, joining them “Most likely… Let’s see if we can get the sirens attention. Or at least one of them, I need to talk to them.” They spend several hours calling out, searching the beach, even swimming to hopefully get the attention of the boys. Around mid-afternoon Rumi shakes her head. “This isn’t working and we can’t wait anymore. I have to go under.”
“Wait- Like, underwater under?” Zoey asks, concern showing on her face. “Yes. ___ could be in danger and I’m not going to risk something happening to her.” Rumi sheds her jacket and steps into the shallow water. “No. It’s too dangerous. What if you get hurt? Then where will we be?” Rumi turns to them both with a smile. “Come here.” She pulls them into a hug, kissing them both quickly. “I’ll be okay. I know how to navigate the ocean. I’ll be safe and I’ll come back to you both, I promise.” She pulls back only for Zoey to pull her in for one more kiss. “Please… Be safe and bring ___ back.”
Rumi nods, stepping back into the water. “I will. I promise.” She wades out before diving under. Zoey stares out at the water, nervously biting her lip. “…Do you think she’ll be okay?” She shifts over to Mira, hugging her arm. “Yeah. I may not understand everything, I trust Rumi. She’ll be okay.” She smiles down at Zoey, squeezing her hand. “Let’s go back to the inn, maybe we can get Esta to explain more to us.” That perks Zoey up and she nods. “Yeah, let’s do that. Maybe we can help some way.” She tugs Mira along with her as the head back to the jeep, praying Rumi and you will be alright.
Rumi inhales a deep breath of water, letting her body shift and form into a siren. She lets out a shaky exhale, flexing her tail to get used to the feeling. She swims forward lightly, before nodding and diving. She would find the boys, and she would talk to you. She needs to talk to you about the things Esta told her, to help you figure it all out.
You never knew just how dark the ocean would be this deep. There is no light, not even a speck. The ability to see better in the dark is a handy thing with your new form, but you don’t really like it. You flinch as another shadow passes you. All you want to do is swim back up to the surface and leave. Is this even worth it? You clutch the map Celine gave you to your chest and swim faster, terror making its way up your throat, making it hard to breathe. ‘N-no… No, I have to s-stay calm… I h-have to get to the trench a-and it’ll be fine…’ You pull out the map and squint into the dark, trying to read it. “I… I think I’m close?”
You stop swimming for a moment, suddenly aware of a low rumbling through the water. The fins on the side of your head twitch and you dive straight down. You’re not exactly why, but something in your mind told you to go. ‘Swim, swim. You’ll be eaten if you don’t!!’ You let out a scream as jaws barely miss the end of your tail. You’re swimming so fast you don’t even notice the ocean floor until you slam into it. You grunt, going still as the pain rushes through you. It feels like falling headfirst on the floor. You don’t have much time to process the pain or the blood leaking from your now injured shoulder.
You dart to the left just as another large pair of jaws nearly bite into you. You don’t stop to try and see what is chasing you, you just swim. You notice that you’re in a trench of some sort when you attempt to swim to the side and a spark of hope ignites in your chest. ‘Please, please let this be the right spot.’ You don’t stop swimming, not with the angry roaring right behind you.
You keep your eyes in front of you, focusing on how everything seems to be getting brighter, the longer you swim in this direction. You glance back just once, seeing a glimpse of red and sharp teeth. That’s all you need to see before you are swimming through the gate of some large ruins. “Yes!” You gasp, looking around the weirdly glowing ruins. A roar makes you flinch, and you can see exactly what is chasing you. It’s large, having four pinchers on its face. It has 4 glowing eyes and a mouth full of wickedly sharp teeth.
You nearly cry when you realize that thing almost ate you, shuddering when you see there are two. “Shit… I don’t know how I’m leaving here.” Because you know there is no way you’re going past those things. You let yourself calm down for several moments before swimming further into the ruins. You go to look at the map and gasp. It’s gone! “No, no, no! I need that!” You panic and swim around to see if maybe it slipped out of your grip in the chase. You spot it just on the other side of the gate and sigh in relief, swimming to retrieve it when the jaws of the creature snap in front of your face. You scream and swim backwards, looking on in dismay as it chops on the map.
“Okay... I can do this… I have to do this, or I’ll be… creature food.” You grimace and swim back into the ruins. “A cave… I need to find the cave.” You swim around for hours, searching every corner of these ruins. “Where the hell is it?!” You cry out, frustration and despair curling in your chest. If you can’t find the trident the potion will wear off and you’ll… you’ll drown down here. You swim down a hallway for the fifth time, sighing and glancing all along the wall before a painting catches your eye. It’s old and barely visible, but it’s the way it is sitting on the wall that’s suspicious. You reach out to shift it and gasp, your shoulder throbbing in pain. You grit your teeth through it and pull the painting off the wall.
There, behind the painting, is a tunnel and as you swim through, you can only hope it’ll lead you to where you need it too.
“Have you found anything?” Baby’s voice comes out hoarse, desperation and a hint of madness slip through in his tone. Mystery shakes his head, bowing his head in disappointment. None of them have any leads, not a single one. “There has to be something… W-wed must just be missing it…” Romance begs, looking at each of the with hope. There must be something else. “I’ve searched every damn rock and cave. ___’s gone.” Abby growls and punches the floor, sand clouding the air. “Where could she go? She’s a human, her lungs don’t breathe water.”
Jinu is perched on a rock outcrop staring into the dark abyss below him. “…Gwi-ma has to have a hand in this; there is no other option. She wouldn’t be able to disappear without him interfering.” “But where?” Romance’s voice cracked, he knew they were all feeling just as upset as he is.
“Maybe I can help?” They all snarl and bare their teeth, turning to the intruder with claws ready. Rumi floats several feet away, her hands raised. “I mean no harm, I promise. ___... she’s my friend. I want to help her...” She waits with bated breath, looking at them as they all still, thinking. She decides to offer her help. “I… I know someone who might be able to help. She’s my aunt. She’s… a siren. Her name is Celine… she lives in deeper waters, but she might be able to help.”
Jinu stiffens, glaring at her. “Celine? The sea witch?” Rumi gasps, looking taken aback. “Witch? No, she’s not a witch.” “She is.” Baby snarls, trying to lunge at her and being held back by Abby. “She works for Gwi-ma.” Rumi shakes her head. “No! She doesn’t! She’s my mother’s sister. Gwi-ma killed my mother, she would never!” Rumi refuses to believe her Aunt Celine would ever do something like that. She wouldn’t work with the very being the killed her mother … would she? “It’s worth a shot.” Mystery speaks up, looking between Rumi and Jinu. “…Even if she doesn’t know where ___ is… She can at least tell us what Gwi-ma is up to.”
“I don’t like it, but you’re right Mystery.” He turns to Rumi, his eyes narrowed and glowing. “Lead the way.” Rumi swims, leading them to Celine’s cave. ‘Celine wouldn’t work for Gwi-ma… she… couldn’t… Could she? H-he killed mother why…?’ She dives, heading for a cave opening on the side of a cliff. “She lives in here.” She gestures for them to follow her in, emerging in a large cavern. Rumi surfaces and climbs onto the small outcrop of rock. She glances as the boys slowly pull themselves out of the water, though they don’t shift into their human forms.
Rumi knocks on the door, not expecting an answer. “Aunt Celine is out a lot, collecting herbs and things.” She turns when the door opens. “___! You’re back? I’m surprised -“ Celine freezes when she sees Rumi stand there flanked by five livid sirens. “O-oh, um… Rumi, what brings you here? And who are you friends?” Rumi feels like someone slapped her. How does she know you? Why does she know you? “Aunt Celine… how do you know ___?” Rumi’s tone was cold, expecting the worst answer. “A-ah… Did I say ___? A mere slip of the tongue, I assure you I have no idea what you’re talking about.”
“Stop lying, you snake.” Jinu hisses, shifting to his human form as the others shift as well. She pushes Rumi out of the way and pins Celine to the wall, sharp claws at her throat. “Answer before I spill your blood.” “No!” Rumi cries, trying to pull him off Celine. Abby picks her up and throws her over his shoulder as Baby snarls and stomps over to Celine as well. Mystery starts looking around her house with Romance, searching for anything related to you.
Celine snarls at Jinu, baring her teeth and trying to snap at him. He retaliates and digs his claws into her neck. “A-alright!” She chokes out, kicking at him. “I’ll t-tell you but get off me!” Rumi hits Abby’s back, digging her nails in as she tries to get loose. “P-please! Let her talk!” Jinu growls as he steps back. “You have five minutes.” Celine glares and rubs at her neck, coughing lightly. “…She’s not here. I… I sent her out to get something.” “What? What did you send her out to get?!” Baby looms over her menacingly, ready to murder her if she makes the wrong move. “…The Sea God’s trident.”
“Are you shitting me.” Abby drops Rumi and charges at Celine. “That’s keeping Gwi-ma sealed! Not to mention it’s so deep in the trenches she’ll die before she even gets there.” He would have killed her right then in Mystery hadn’t stepped in the way. “Not yet, we need to know why and how long she’s been gone.” “Talk.” Romance demands, his eyes narrowed. Celine scoffs. “…I gave her a potion. It allows her to be a siren for forty-eight hours. She has a map it shouldn’t be that hard for her. She might even be there by now. As for why? That’s a harder question to answer.”
“Well try.” Rumi says, standing behind the boys looking upset, that she would put you in danger. Celine sighs, resting her head against the wall. “I… I’m working with Gwi-ma…” I knew it.” Baby spits at her. “Why? H-how could you?! He killed mom!!” Rumi yells, tears welling in her eyes. “I’m doing it for us, Rumi! I made a deal with him, if I can get him free, he’ll give your mother’s soul back!” Celine pleads with Rumi, her eyes staring at her with desperation. “Please, you have to believe me. I wouldn’t do it for anything less.”
Rumi shakes her head and turns away, tears falling down her face. “No.. I c-can’t accept that Aunt Celine… I can’t believe you’re working with him…” Rumi leaves the house, unable to process that fact that her last living relative is working with her mother’s murderer. Jinu Glares down at Celine, growling at her as he turns to leave. “Let’s go. We have to go to the trenches.” “What about her?” Abby gestures towards Celine, cracking his knuckles. “No, we need her alive for now, she’s the only connection we have to Gwi-ma and what he’s up to. Tie her up. We can deal with her when we get back.”
Romance drags Celine out and into the water, tying her up so she can’t get away. The others all swim to the entrance and when Romance joins them, they dive. Rumi stares at Celine before shaking her head and swimming after the boys. She is going to help get you back.
It was exceptionally dark in the tunnel, even with better vision. You don’t remember how long you’ve been swimming down this tunnel, but you refuse to give up. You sigh; your body is exhausted from everything. “Just a small rest…” You swim to the bottom of the tunnel and lay flat, letting your body relax. “So sleepy…” You yawn and cover your face. It would be simple to fall asleep, but you know you can’t. It’s too dangerous. After several minutes you swim back up with a grunt. “Wait.” Your eyes catch a faint glint of light from up ahead and you swim faster.
You reach out to touch the light and you breach the surface of the water. You gasp and push yourself up and out of the water, yelling out in pain as your body shifts back to human form. You lay on the ground in pain for several minutes before dragging yourself up and looking around. There is a natural sort of algae on the walls that glows faintly, giving you some light. You start moving, falling the path of the cave until it splits into two different directions. “Let me think…” You observe both paths, one goes back into water, and the other goes above. “I think the upper path. Someplace that sirens would have a hard time reaching.”
You climb as quickly as possible, trying your best not to fall. When you reach the top, you let out a breath you didn’t know you were holding. The path winds before gently sloping up again. You can see a glow at the top of the small incline, hoping it’s the trident. You gasp when you come over the incline. The pearlescent trident stands straight in a pillar of stone, a magic seal locking it in place. ‘This is it. I just need to bring this back to Celine, and I can go home.’
You cautiously approach the trident, feeling the magic hum through air. You stop in front of the trident before pulling out the map, looking it over for any hints. “Dang, everything about the trident is on the other scroll. Let me see.” Looking the seal over, you notice it has a handprint in the middle of it. “That’s too easy.” You decide to look around the room, reading the scrolls scattered about, but you find nothing. “There has to be something. It can’t just be my hand.” You groan in frustration, rubbing your face. You tilt your head back and look up at the ceiling. “Wait.” There on ceiling is a stone carving of a hand, its fingers reaching for the seal below.
“Very clever.” You grin, pulling a small lever on the wall. Gears click and turn in the walls and soon the stone carver is lowered to your level, allowing you to grab it. You take the carving and press it to the seal. The seal pulses with light for several moments before fading into dust. “Moment of truth. Let’s hope I don’t die.” You reach out your hand, squeezing your eyes shut and expecting something to come tumbling out to kill you. Like in adventure movies. You pull the trident out and for several minutes nothing happens, lulling you into a false sense of relief.
You start heading back out, climbing back down to the water-filled entrance you entered through. When the trident touches the water, a shockwave goes out through the whole structure, and it starts crumbling. You cry out and start swimming as fast as you can with the trident clutched to your chest. The tunnel is dark, but thankfully straight, allowing you to speed down it and barrel into the ruins.
You don’t stay and swim frantically for the exit, rocks collapsing all around you. Your eyes light up at the sight of the gate. “Almost there.” You dart forward, your fingers just brushing the gate when a rock slams into your from behind. A scream ripping from your lips as you’re pinned to the ground. You push, shove, and even claw at the ground but nothing budges you. A sob rips from your through. ‘No! I have limited time like this! I c-can’t be stuck, I’ll drown!’
A deep chuckle echoes around you. “Oh, you poor dear.” The voice is deep and smooth like honey. A siren swims up to you, his eyes a deep pink mixed with purple. His hair is long and pink, the ends fade to dark pink and purple. “You have something that belongs to me. Be a dear and hand It over.” He reaches for the trident, and you gasp, keeping it pinned beneath you. “N-no… I need this..” He laughs, his sharp teeth flashing. “My dear. That is mine.” His eyes flash with dangerous intention and he rips the trident from your grasp. “No!”
“___!” Your head snaps up at the sound of your name and you see your sirens coming for you. “J-Jinu!” You hope you got his name right. Your heart flutters and your soul tugs. They want their mates, and so do you. You hated the way they treated you, but anything is better than this. “P-please help!” You suddenly feel sharp claws on the back of your neck. “Oh, this is delicious. My boys… is this your mate by any chance?” His fingers dig into your neck a little harder causing a small whimper of pain to escape you.
“Gwi-ma! Don’t hurt her!” Jinu snarls, swimming even faster to get to you. “Jinu, my son. You stripped me of my power and sealed me away where I would never be found. It’s only fair I have my revenge, no?” Gwi-ma looks down at you and hums, thinking for a long moment. “I know! She’s not supposed to be a siren, is she?” Magic flares at the end of his fingers and you feel your body starting to shift. “N-no I can’t-“ You don’t have time to finish before you choke, closing your mouth and holding your breath. Gwi-ma laughs, he taps the trident on the ground and an energy field trapping the boys. “NO!” “GWI-MA LET US GO!!” “YOU CAN’T DO THIS!” “I’ll KILL YOU!” “RELEASE US!”
You watch through blurry eyes; you can feel your lungs starting to burn. If you don’t get air you’ll drown. You squirm and start floating away. Gwi-ma barely spares you and glance and swims towards the boys. You can only watch as he summons the two large sea monsters that were chasing you earlier. You want to scream and cry. ‘W-what a fine mess I’ve made…’ You can feel your eyes getting heavy, your lungs screaming for air. You can’t hold it anymore and you breathe in, water flooding your lungs. You choke and gurgle, barely aware when someone grabs your face and kisses you.
You gasp, grasping at the person’s arms as air fills your lungs. “___! Are you okay? Can you hear me?!” Your vision clears slightly, though everything is still a bit blurry. “R-Rumi?” You rasp out, your voice sounds horrible. “Y-yes yes, it’s me. Now shhh.” She presses a finger to your lips, glancing over at Gwi-ma. “No questions. Not now, we need to figure out a way to stop him.” She takes your hand and pulls you with her as she swims. “The trident… it’s the only thing that can truly kill him.” Rumi mumbles, remembering something of the scrolls in Celine’s house.
“___, I need your help, we have to get the trident away from him somehow. It’s the only thing that can kill him.” You hold onto her arm tightly, unsure how you’re even alive down here right now, with all the pressure. “His beasts… I have a plan.” Rumi grabs one of your hands. “I need you to do what I tell you, okay? It’s dangerous, but I think it’ll work.” She pulls you closer to where Gwi-ma is taunting the boys and she hugs you. “I know that using you as bait is low, but I need them distracted. Just go hide in the ruins after.” She gives you one more kiss to make sure you’ll still be able to breathe underwater and then she whistles before darting away.
‘Damn it Rumi! Why do I have to be the bait?!’ You don’t get much time to dwell on it before Gwi-ma turns to you. “Oh? Still alive? Get her.” He commands his beasts to kill you. You turn and swim, kicking your legs as fast as you can. You let out a cry as you swim into the ruins, just barely avoiding a mouth full of teeth.
Rumi takes a deep breath and darts over to Gwi-man, ramming into him with her full body weight. He grunts, his grip on the trident loosening just slightly. That’s all she needs. She spins around and snatches it from his grasp, the energy field holding the boys also weakens, allowing them to escape. They all immediately swim towards you, Abby attacking one of the beasts head on. You wince at the sound of the beast screeching. Mystery swims over and curls around you, covering your ears and purring. “Pretty girl…” Jinu swims over and presses kisses all over your face. Baby attacks the other beast, ripping into it with such ferocity it rivaled Gwi-ma. Romance cries and hugs you as best he can, mumbling how much he loves you and misses you, spouting apologies if they hurt or upset you.
Baby and Abby swim in, covered in blood and flesh. Baby grins, an insane look in his eyes. “They won’t hurt you anymore.” Abby chuckles and pats Baby on the back. “They won’t anyone ever again.” Mystery uncovers your ears but doesn’t let you go. “Sweet thing, we’re sorry.” He mumbles against your neck. “We… we shouldn’t have taken as we did.” They all look so guilty that your heart aches. “I… I believe you, b-but we have bigger problems right now. W-we’ll talk later.”
You can hear Rumi fighting with Gwi-ma. “We need to help Rumi…” “And kill Gwi-ma.” Jinu nods and swims back out. “Mystery, stay with ___, make sure she’s safe.” Romance pouts, but gives you a quick kiss and joins Jinu, followed by Baby and Abby. You squirm a bit in Mystery’ grasp. “Please… at least let me see what’s happening?” He hesitates for only a moment before agreeing, he can’t handle you looking so sad. He swims you both over to the door of the ruins, letting you witness the fight firsthand.
You watch as Rumi and Gwi-ma exchange blows. The trident must have fallen to the ocean floor, but neither of them seemed to notice, not yet. Rumi shows no mercy and keeps striking him with everything she has. “You. Killed. My. MOTHER!” She screams, hitting him right in the ribs. He grunts and catches sight of the trident; he flashes a grin and dives for it. “No!” Rumi yells and dives right after him. Jinu pushes himself even faster, snatching the trident before Gwi-ma can, he turns and plunges it into his back.
Gwi-ma freezes, his eyes narrowing in pain. He growls and snarls at Jinu as he bleeds, the trident forcing him to fade. He casts one more look at you, a deep hatred in his eyes. “…for you…” He mouths several things to you, but you only catch the last two words before he’s gone, as if he never existed in the first place.
Everyone stays still, processing what just happened. You swim over to Jinu, the other slowly surrounding you. “J-Jinu?” You call his name softly, almost afraid to touch him. He turns to you, his eyes red, but he’s not crying. He pulls you in for a hug. “I’m sorry. So, so, sorry for how we treated you. I… we understand why you ran and it’s our fault. I-it’s our fault you went through all this, if only we had handled everything better-“ You press a finger to his lips, so he’ll stop rambling. “It was your fault, but I forgive you, even if I shouldn’t. But I do, because I love you. With my heart and soul. It’s fate.”
You look at the others, smiling at them. You press a kiss to Mystery’s nose, a kiss to Romance’s palm, a kiss to Baby’s forehead, and a kiss to Abby’s cheek. Your eyes glance back at Jinu, and you kiss him on the lips. The other boys grumble in protest so you give each of them a kiss as well before turning to Rumi. “Rumi… are you okay?” She shakes her head. “No… No, I’m not.” She gives you a small smile, but I will be. Now, why don’t we go home?” You nod, tugging on Baby’s hand. “Yes please.” They all chuckle, keeping you close as they all ascend.
None of you notice a siren and human sitting on a piece of rubble, smiling. “Our daughter is strong, but she needs to lead her own life. Farewell our dear Rumi, we love you.” They slowly fade with the current, leaving a small pile of sand behind.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~One Year Later~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“ABBY NO!” You squeal, darting away from him as he chases you down the beach. You laugh as he scoops you up and dives into the ocean with you in his arms. Jinu is sitting on a beach chair, sunglasses on as he sunbathes and watches you with Abby. Baby is sitting under an umbrella sipping something sweet while trying to act like he isn’t watching you. Romance is building a sandcastle with a ring of shells around it shaped like a heart, writing your name next to his in the sand. Mystery disappeared a little while ago and you’re pretty sure he ducked back into the water.
Rumi sits with Zoey and Mira, smiling as they watch you interact with your soulmates. “I’m really glad they worked everything out.” Zoey hums softly, watching you and Abby have a water fight. “Me too, she’s happy.” Mira rolls her eyes. “It would have been better if they hadn’t kidnapped her at first… but yeah, I’m glad she’s happy.” “Speaking of happy. How about you, Rumi? What about your aunt?”
Rumi grimaces before she relaxes. “It’s hard. I’m still trying to get over what she did, but… at least we’re talking? Sorta. It still hurts.” Mira and Zoey share a look and hug her. “It’s okay Rumi, we’re here.” She smiles between them. “Yeah, and really? You’re all I need.” Zoey suddenly hops up and starts tugging Rumi’s arm. “Let’s go in the water now!” Mira raises an eyebrow. “We were just in the water ten minutes ago.” “I knowwwwww- But I want to go swim again.” She pouts, giving Rumi puppy eyes. “You just want to see Rumi’s siren form again.” “N-no!” She yelps and looks away with a flush on her face.
Rumi chuckles and stands, pulling Mira with her. “Alright Zoey.” She presses a kiss on her cheek, and they head down to the water again. You watch them head into the water and turn back to the others on the beach. You yelp when you feel fingers touch your toes.” Mystery!” You look down and see him swimming circles around you. He surfaces and peppers your face with kisses. You giggle and kiss him back, running your fingers through his hair.
“Quit sucking on each other’s faces.” Baby grumbles having joined you in the water. He pulls you by your waist and smirks on Mystery. “You gotta kiss her like you mean it.” He pulls you into a bruising kiss, one of his hands cupping the back of your neck, the other around your waist. Your gasp is swallowed by his tongue as you kiss him back. Romance gasps when he notices what’s happening. “No, no! Baby, you going to bruise her beautiful lips!” He splashes into the water, shifting as he goes. He gently pulls you from Baby, glaring at him. “Don’t be a brute. One must appreciate beauty when it can.” He mumbles, brushing his thumb along your bottom lip.
He leans down and kisses you gently, but not less passionately. You let out a soft whimper into the kiss, your hands gripping his shoulders. You break apart with a breathy giggle, your cheeks flushed from all the attention. “Are you pretty, sweetheart?” Abby pulls you to his chest, your hands bracing yourself. “Ah, Abby-“ He cuts you off with his lips, pouring his love and possession into the kiss. His hands slip up your side before resting on your hips, his thumbs brushing gently against your waist.
“It seems our pretty girl is getting the attention she deserves.” Abby pulls back and you gasp, peeking at Jinu over his shoulder. Jinu smirks, his eyes dark with desire. He swims over, gently pulling you off Abby and into his arms. “What do you say we go to our cave for the rest of the day?” He murmurs against your neck, pressing kisses along your throat. You can’t stop the soft moan that escapes you and seeing their reactions, you really don’t want to.
“Yeah... I l-like that idea.” You whisper back to him with a soft laugh. You look back at the others, smiling softly. “Let’s go to the cave, yeah?” Baby grins, his eyes dilating. Romance blows a kiss and winks. Mystery smirks, his sharp teeth showing. And Abby grins, already diving. “What are we waiting for?” You laugh as you’re pulled underwater, their kisses and magic allowing you to breathe as you’re swept away in the utter love and devotion they have for you. Truly, you wouldn’t want to be anywhere else
“What do you mean gone?!” Mira sneers at the innkeeper, her hands balled into fists as she stops herself from hitting her. She just let you leave? Rumi put a hand on her shoulder, gently rubbing. “Mira, calm down. Let’s hear her out.” Mira scoffs nearly bumping into Zoey as she moves to sit on one of the barstools. Zoey sits next to her and pulls her into a side hug. “We’ll figure it out, okay?” The innkeeper smiles at their reactions. “She is lucky to have friends like you.” “She was before you let her leave! Damn it… she could be hurt!”
A chuckle interrupts her anger. “She’s not right this moment, of that I can guarantee you.” A tray of snacks is set on the bar, and the innkeeper sits down. “We’ll be here for a while. I figured snacks would be welcome. Now, before we start, I think introductions are in order, no? I’m Esta.” She bows her head politely at them. “May I have your names?” “I’m Zoey!” “I’m Rumi.” Mira’s jaw twitches before she sighs in defeat. “…Mira.” Esta smiles and taps the bar, pulling out a leather journal. “Do any of you girls know what sirens are?” Her eyes trail over them all, but they stop on Rumi with a knowing look.
“Sirens? Like the human eating fish people?” Zoey asks, tilting her head curiously. “I think I read something about them once.” “Exactly like that.” Esta flips the journal open to a page full of sketches. Several show beautiful faces and others show yellows eyes with sharp teeth. “They are exactly that, but there is more to them. Sirens have a society like ours, just more… animalistic. The strong survives, the weak are killed. They travel in pods, or families, and they hunt together. Here is where they differ from us. They have a soulmate, or something similar."
“Hold on, are you telling us that ___ is a siren’s soulmate?” Zoey’s voice interrupts Esta with concern. She looks down at the journal and shivers, those eyes and teeth look anything but friendly. “Yes. She is. However, it’s not quite so simple… She’s not just one siren’s soulmate, there are five of them, a whole pod.” Esta flips the journal to a different page. “Siren pods can have anywhere from three to eight sirens in them; the average is usually about five. They’re tightknit groups that have strong connections and they’re extremely territorial. That cove you girls visited? That’s their territory.” “So… if we hadn’t visited the cove, ___ wouldn’t be gone?” Mira asks, looking between the journal and Esta. “No, not at all. She is their soulmate. She could feel them. Did you notice her spacing out after you got here? Being more restless than normal? It’s because her soul was calling out for its mates. She would have gone to them whether you visited the cove or not, it just expedited the situation.”
Esta pushes the journal towards the girls. “You can keep it for now, just give it back before you leave.” She moves around the bar to go cook breakfast. “Ah, Rumi, was it?” Rumi looks away from the journal and looks at Esta. “Yes?” “Walk with me.” She motions for her to follow as she continues to the kitchen, ignoring Mira’s protest. “I think it’s time for you to be honest, yes?” She glances at Rumi and sees her expression freeze before she puts on a front. “What are you talking about?”
Esta sighs, opening the kitchen door. “I may be old, but I’m not stupid. You’re part siren.” She points at Rumi’s tattoos. “Those. They’re from your siren blood.” She grins at Rumi’s expression and shows her own sharp teeth. “Did you know that siren blood glows?” Rumi gasps and moves closer to her. “You’re also part siren?!” “Of course. How else do you think I know so much about them? My mother was a siren.” Rumi lets out a small laugh, running a hand through her hair. “I never thought there was anyone else I… It was my mother too. She was a siren.” Esta smiles at Rumi, glad she finally admitted it. “Now, I want to talk about your friend.”
Rumi walks over to the counter, gently taking the cutting board from Esta. “Let me help while we talk.” Esta stares at her for a moment before nodding. “I’m worried about your friend. While she’s not in danger per se, she’s at risk of being in danger. Before she left, I explained what I could about sirens, but I didn’t get to explain everything. Sirens do eat humans, that’s true. But there is a way to bypass their need to do so.” “How?” Rumi asks, setting the knife down and giving Esta all her attention. “That’s my problem. I don’t know. I never got a chance to ask my mother before she passed. I know it involves a ritual, but I’m usure what it is. I was hoping your parents would be able to help.”
Rumi goes still, her eyes glazing over slightly before she shakes her head. “My mother was killed by someone named Gwi-ma; he had some weird obsession with her or something. And my father disappeared right after her death; I was raised by some relatives. I barely knew my parents… I’m sorry I can’t help.” Esta sighs, resting her arms on the counter. “It’s not your fault. I’m sure I can figure something out.” She then starts shooing Rumi out of the kitchen. “Go, I’m sure your friends are thinking I’m trying to cook you up or something.” Rumi laughs and shakes her head, pausing at the kitchen door. “Thank you, Esta.” She heads back out into the lobby; this is going to be hard to explain to Mira and Zoey.
The ocean is cold. Not just chilly, like on cool autumn mornings. No, this type of cold is bone deep. There is no sun, very little sound, and it’s driving you insane. You have been adamantly ignoring the five sirens who brought you here after they refused your pleas to go back to the surface, much to their dismay. They want you to love them. You huff, curling up in the corner of the underwater cave they brought you too. They must have been preparing for this though, because the place was occupied by some furnishings. If you could call them that.
“Please… look at me, sweetheart.” You refuse, keeping yourself as far from the submerged part of the cave as possible. You duck your head under the kelp blanket you were given and refuse to answer him. You think his name is Abby, but your mind is a little fuzzy from when they sang to you. You hear a sigh and a splash, peeking over to see that he has gone back under the water. You let out a sigh of relief, quickly getting up and heading over to the wall behind the seaweed bed they had made you. There is a crack behind the bed, hidden in the corner of the cave. It’s on the larger side and you hope you’ll be able to slip through it. You’re not sure where it goes, but anything is better than staying here with five obsessed sirens.
You shift the bed and hear another splash. You flinch and panic, shoving the bed back and crawling under the seaweed to hopefully fool them into thinking you’re sleeping. You hear a slap and what sounds like one of them dragging their tail. You peek out from the bed and see Mystery crawling up towards the makeshift table they gave you. He grunts as he uses his arms to pull himself onto one of the rocks you use for chairs. He sets a fish down and you grimace. It smells gross and it looks even worse. He glances at you and tilts his head. He's the quietest of the five, barely speaking and just staring at you. Or you think he is, as you can’t see his eyes.
“…I brought food.” He mumbles just loud enough for you to hear. You scoff slightly, looking away from him. “I can’t eat raw fish. That’s disgusting.” You don’t see him hesitate, nor do you see the slight tremble in his hands as he takes the fish and slips back into the water. You sigh and get back up, shifting the bed. It’s not like you don’t want to be with them. Part of you desires them, wants to fall into their arms and just accept their love, no matter how obsessive. But you don’t like how they’re treating you, locking you away underwater and keeping you from your friends and life on land. It’s wrong and they won’t listen to your pleas, you’ve already tried.
You grunt and push the bed away just enough to squeeze into the crack. You gasp; this crevice is a lot smaller than you thought it was. “S-shit…” You hiss, trying to keep your breathing in check. You don’t even want to think about what would happen if you got stuck here. So, you take a deep breath and exhale, squeezing your way forward. The rocks scrape and scratch your arms and legs, leaving red marks. You let out a shaky breath. ‘This was a terrible idea. What were you thinking?! Absolute idiot.’ You think to yourself, but you have no way to go but forward, you can’t turn around and you certainly are not staying.
You’re on the verge of a breakdown, your mind spiraling into every way this situation can and will go wrong. Why is this crevice so long?! Where’s the end? You let out an exhausted sigh, feeling your limbs starting to shiver from the cold. ‘What if there is no end? What if you just trapped yourself here? To die alone and without every saying goodbye.’ Your breath hitches as the thought crosses your mind before you start panicking. You shove yourself forward, your breathing getting faster and faster, thoughts sinking into the idea of you dying alone and stuck thousands of feet below the ocean.
You let out a cry, tears spilling from your eyes. ‘I can’t breathe-!’ The walls feel like they’re closing in catching and cutting your skin. ‘I’m going to die.’ That single thought plays on repeat in your head, you’re shivering, your chest in constricting. You’re going to die. Your mouth opens to gasp for air, but you feel like no air reaches your lungs. You slump forward, your head thumping on the ground. You’re dying. You can feel it, the coldness spreading through your body. You can’t move, your body feels heavy and tired. I’m going to die. Your vision goes dark, and you slump forward.
“My sweet?” Romance pulls himself into the cave, followed by Baby. Baby takes a deep breath and his eyes narrow. “Something smells off…” Romance sighs, crawling forward. “Probably that smelly fish Mystery brought her. No wonder she rejected it.” “While I agree it wasn’t the best choice, the thought was admirable, don’t be rude.” Jinu pokes his head above the water, his yellow eyes narrowing. “Where is she?” Baby pulls himself further into the cave, his arms straining. “In bed?” He mumbles, pulling himself further in.
Abby’s head emerges into the cave. “I brought some sea fruit. I hope she likes them.” He sets them on the dry part of the cave and pulls himself up, making it look effortless. Mystery stays in the water, hovering just under the surface, still nervous and not wanting to upset you again. Romance fixes a few things out of place when Baby suddenly hisses. “She’s gone.” “What?” “The hell?” “Gone where?” Baby points at the crack in the wall. “She’s gone. Gone gone.” “How did you miss that?” Romance snarls at Baby. “You chose this cave for her!” “It wasn’t there!” Baby snarls back, nearly launching himself at Romance. “I wouldn’t have chosen this place if I knew there was such an obvious escape route!”
Jinu watches them argue, his golden eyes shining in the dark as a terrible idea flashes through his mind. “Gwi-ma.” Everyone stops and the cave gets eerily silent. “It was Gwi-ma… remember what he said before we left him?” Abby growls, his eyes flashing gold. “…That he would take our mate, like we took his power.” “B-but he was trying to control the ocean, we couldn’t just let him…” “We know, Romance. He’s just pathetic, going after our human mate. Pathetic and stupid.” Baby slides back into the water, gritting his teeth in anger. Mystery pauses, listening to the ocean’s currents. “…She’s in danger, we… we have to go.”
Abby hisses, his eyes narrowing and his teeth poking out from under his lips. “We have to find her.” Romance growls, his claws digging into the stone ground beneath him. “She’s ours. No one else gets her.” Jinu snarls, his eyes nearly glowing as he dives, dragging Mystery with him as the others quickly join them. “We’ll find her. We’re not going to lose her. We can’t.” He swims quickly out of the underwater cave and into open ocean. “Split up, use our song if you have to and alert the others immediately if any of you find her.” They all acknowledge his commands and swim in separate directions. Jinu stares into the black sea, his eyes looking but not seeing. “Gwi-ma. She’s ours.” He dives deeper into the ocean, disappearing into the inky black water.
You gasp awake, drenched in sweat and still stuck in the small crevice. A shudder goes through you as the chill soaks into your damp clothes. A sob catches in your throat as you force it down, crawling forward despite the cold and pain. The walls scrape on your arms and legs, aggravating the small scratches already there and making more. You glance ahead through blurry eyes and notice there is a bit of light. Could it be the end?
You push yourself even faster, just wanting this to be over with. With another shove forward a sharp rock cuts into your knee, a quiet hiss of pain leaving you. Though you don’t have time to focus on the pain before you topple downwards. A shriek of surprise leaves you as you plummet into freezing water. A shock runs through your already cold body as you flail to reach the surface. You break through with a gasp, but you see no outcrop for you to climb onto. You start shivering. ‘No, no, no, no! Shit no! I don’t want to d-die here!!’ You weakly start swimming in a random direction, not getting far when you feel something brushing your legs. A terrified cry leaves you, but there is nowhere for you to go.
You feel cold webbed hands grip your shoulders from behind and a woman’s voice. “Shh, sink into oblivion.” She whispers, brushing her sharp teeth on your neck. You lurch in her grasp, trying to escape with a gasp and a sob. She chuckles, spinning you around to face her. You can barely make out her features through your blurry and slowly fading vision. Her long black hair brushes your cheeks as she leans in close. “Sleep.” The last thing you feel in her lips on yours before your plunged into the frigid water, then darkness.
You wake much slower this time, your mind a fuzzy mess and shivers raking up your spine. You can barely think straight, but your eyes manage to focus on a cold blue light flickering in the corner of the room. “I see you like my jellyfish lamp.” You roll your head to look at the other side of the room where the voice came from. There stands a woman, she looks to be in her mid-forties, she has long black hair and brown eyes, but it’s the scales on her arms and legs that catch your attention.
“What? Never seen a siren’s human form before?” She rolls her eyes and walks over to you, pressing a hand to your forehead. “Mm, fever. You human folk are so weak. Can’t handle a little freezing water.” You try to say something, but all that comes out is a whimper. ‘S-so cold… where am I? W-who is she? I c-can’t… t-too cold… too tired…’ She walks over to a table of sorts and pulls out several gross looking things. “I can help with the fever, and get you warmer, but you’ll owe me.” Her eyes flicker over to you, and she notices you’re barely conscious enough to understand her. She sighs and crushes up the items she has, mixing them with some water and walking over to you.
“Mouth open.” She taps your lips, and you do as she wants, nearly gagging when she pours the liquid down your through. “I know, you humans find our food and medicine disgusting, but it will bring that fever down.” She moves again but you can’t see her, but you do feel when something warm drapes across you. “Sleep. You need it. We’ll talk when you wake.” You blink at her, vaguely nodding your head. ‘She’s not outright hostile, but she’s not friendly either. What could she want?’ You don’t dwell on the thoughts much more and let yourself be swept away to rest.
You fade in and out of consciousness, trying to keep an eye on the strange woman… siren. Sometimes it sounded like she was talking to someone, but there was no one there. Other times she stared at you, looking deep in thought, and sometimes it was her sitting next to you, mumbling about something you didn’t understand.
When you finally wake, your mind clearer and your fever is gone, you realize just how dangerous your situation is. This female siren could have killed you, but she didn’t. Why? She must have a reason. A shiver goes down your spine and you wish you were back with the boys, at least they were safe. You slip out of the bed and go to open the door when she enters. “Oh? You’re awake. Good.” She closes the door behind her and gestures for you to sit back down. “Sit, please. We have a lot to speak about.”
You reluctantly do as she asks, keeping a safe distance from her. She notices and laughs. “You think I couldn’t rip your throat out? Oh, you sweet naïve thing.” She bares her sharp teeth and smirks. “You owe me for saving you. How do you plan to repay me?” ‘Damn, I knew it. She wants something from me.’ You tense up, so many thoughts run through your head on what she could want. “You do a favor for me, and I let you go back to shore. Simple.”
“W-what kind of favor?” You hate how she grins at you, like you just walked right into her trap. “I need you to retrieve something for me. You see, I’m indebted to a rather… unfriendly person and he needs me to get something for him… Only I can’t.” Her grin turns sharper, and she stares right into your eyes. “But you can.” She walks over to a bottle full of a strange blue liquid. “If you drink this, it will give you forty-eight hours to get me what I need. If not… well, I can just eat you. I’m sure you’d make a delicious meal.”
You flinch at her statement, your mind going back to when you watched the boys kill the innocent fisherman. “…Alright. But what am I looking for?” With a wave of her hand, she motions for you to follow her. You walk out of the room and notice this place is made out of coral. “My brother helped me carve this place … before he was killed.” She whispers, a note of sadness in her tone. “Wow, how did you do this? It’s amazing… Oh, I never asked for you name?” You ask, looking at her back, noticing several large scars. “Celine, yours?” She asks as she opens a door for you. “___.” You tell her your name as you enter, gasping softly at all the different treasures and scrolls.
Celine pushes past you, letting you gawk as she rummages for something specific. “Here.” She sets a scroll down on the table, unrolling it. “This is the Sea God’s Trident. This is what I need you to fetch for me.” You move around the table to look at the trident. It’s beautiful, a light pearl white with swirls of pink, blue, and gold. “It’s gorgeous. Where is it?” Celine sighs, her hair shifting to cover her face. “That’s the hard part. It’s hidden.” She pulls out a map, drawing several lines on it. “This is where we are, my home. From here you need to go down into this trench, where you’ll find ruins at the end. There will be a cave in those ruins, a cave that harbors an air pocket.”
You study the map, regretting everything that led you to this point in time. “I… That’s so deep… There is no way I’ll survive going down there. And why can’t you get it? You can obviously shift.” Celine laughs, rolling the scrolls back up. “You really are naïve to our ways. Yes, I can shift, but only for a few hours before I have to get back to water. If not, I’ll wither, like a plant with no water. And don’t worry about your silly little human lungs, I told you, drink this and you’ll be safe to dive down there for forty-eight hours.”
As you stare at her and then you glance around the room, your mind wanders to the boys. You still feel the tug, the desire to be with them and honestly? Right now, that sounds heavenly compared to what’s happening to you. And honestly? You just want to see them. They might have been idiots when you first met and have definitely done bad things, you want the comfort your soul felt when around them. You want to feel that warmth again. You debate on whether you should ask Celine about them, what could go wrong? “Celine… Um, I just wondered… These five sirens I know, they… we’re evidently mates? They’re probably super worried, is there any way I could see them? Or t-they could come help me?”
Celine’s eyes sear into yours, her pupils narrowing. “…What are their names?” She already knows, of course, but if you can just tell her… You suddenly feel very uncomfortable and shake your head. “N-never mind… let’s just do this.” After all, she didn’t give you much of a choice. You don’t like the look in her eyes as she hands you the bottle. “Down the hatch.” You take a deep breath and pinch your nose, grimacing at the bitter taste and slimy texture. ‘That’s disgusting.’ You gag, covering your mouth as your stomach rolls in discontent.
Celine laughs and pulls you with her out of the coral house and into a vast underwater cave. It’s all water, except the small outcrop of rock the house is on. “I’ll lead you to the entrance of the cave, the rest is up to you.” She hands you the scroll wrapped in seaweed. “It’s waterproof.” You hesitate as she jumps in, popping back up in her full siren form. “Come on, didn’t I tell you what the drink would do? My bad. You’ll be a siren in the water.”
You still hesitate but jump in anyway. It’s strange, the feeling of being shifted and shaped into a different form. It was agonizing too. Feeling your bones snap and bend as needed, your legs fuse together. It was agony. You gasp for breath once the transformation is finished with the gills on your neck flaring as you breathe in water. Celine circles you, giving you a full view of her siren form. She’s beautiful and deadly. She laughs are your clumsy attempts to swim, shaking her head as she swims behind you and straightens your tail. “Now, move like you would if your human legs were together. Maybe? I don’t know the human equivalent to how it feels.”
You try and fail, over and over again. When you finally get it, Celine grabs your hand and quickly swims towards the entrance to the cave. “This is where I leave you… Be careful. I need you to come back alive so you can give me the trident.” She hesitates, her hand hovering before she pulls back.
“Oh, and watch out for the local fauna… They’re less than friendly.” She grins and darts back into the cave, leaving you floating on the edge of an abyss. You feel the panic grip at your heart as you stare down into the nearly pitch-black ocean. You take one look back at the cave and you feel so utterly alone. You take a shuddering breath and swim down, trying to stay focused. If you let your mind wander, you’ll just send yourself into a panic. The darkness swallows your figure as you descend into the ocean’s depths.
“Shit…. Are you telling me that you’ve been part siren this whole time and you just never thought to tell us?” Mira scowls at Rumi, her arms across her chest. Rumi flinches at her tone, nodding and nervously rubbing her arms. “Yeah…” Zoey looks between the two. “That’s actually really cool… but why wouldn’t you tell us sooner?” Rumi sighs and moves closer to them, wanting to pull them into a hug, but unsure if they would want that. “I wanted to, but I was scared. Admitting my mother was a mythical creature? Seems pretty crazy right?”
Mira grunts and tugs her into a hug. “Yeah… but we love you Rumi. We know you, so of course we wouldn’t think you’re crazy.” There is a moment of silence before Zoey breaks it. “Okay, maybe a little- BUT we know you wouldn’t just spout some crazy nonsense without a reason.” She wraps her arms around Rumi’s back and presses her face into her shoulder blades.
Rumi blinks softly and hugs Mira back. “I love you guys so much.” Zoey gasps and pulls back. “Okay, but can you turn into a siren in the water?!” Mira pulls back to look at Rumi with a smirk. “Yeah. Can you?” She teases, squeezing Rumi’s arm. Rumi clears her throat and looks away, her cheeks softly flushed. “…Yes, if I want to.” “OMG WE NEED TO SEE THAT!!!” Zoey squeals, spinning Rumi to face her and squishing her cheeks. Rumi pushes her hands away. “Okay! Okay! Later! We have to help ___ remember? That’s out priority right now.”
“Oh yes.” Zoey tempers her excitement and wraps her arms around Rumi. “Soooooo- What’s the plan?” “We go back to the cove.” Rumi decides, gently prying Zoey’s arms off her. “It’s our best bet since the sirens she’s mated too live there.” Mira nods, taking Zoey’s arm and dragging her towards the stairs. “Let’s go get ready and meet outside in five.” As they disappear upstairs, Rumi goes and sits outside. “My mother and father did it… I know we can figure out some way to help ___.”
She stands when she hears Zoey and Mira’s footsteps. They both come down in t-shirts and jeans, holding their swimsuits. “We’re ready!” Zoey bounces over to the jeep, hopping into the backseat. “So, what exactly are we going to do?” Rumi sits in the driver’s seat as Mira climbs into the passenger seat. “We need to find the sirens first; they’re not going to let us get close to ___. Not right now.”
The drive isn’t long and the quiet is filled with questions from Mira and Zoey. When she pulls into the parking space and gets out, she notices a bag down on the beach. She jogs down to the beach and picks up the bag. “It’s __’s bag.” Mira glances down the beach as Zoey points out some footprints. “There, she went back into the cave.” “And she came back.” Ira notices, following the footprints to the water. “She went in. Willingly?” Rumi nods, joining them “Most likely… Let’s see if we can get the sirens attention. Or at least one of them, I need to talk to them.” They spend several hours calling out, searching the beach, even swimming to hopefully get the attention of the boys. Around mid-afternoon Rumi shakes her head. “This isn’t working and we can’t wait anymore. I have to go under.”
“Wait- Like, underwater under?” Zoey asks, concern showing on her face. “Yes. ___ could be in danger and I’m not going to risk something happening to her.” Rumi sheds her jacket and steps into the shallow water. “No. It’s too dangerous. What if you get hurt? Then where will we be?” Rumi turns to them both with a smile. “Come here.” She pulls them into a hug, kissing them both quickly. “I’ll be okay. I know how to navigate the ocean. I’ll be safe and I’ll come back to you both, I promise.” She pulls back only for Zoey to pull her in for one more kiss. “Please… Be safe and bring ___ back.”
Rumi nods, stepping back into the water. “I will. I promise.” She wades out before diving under. Zoey stares out at the water, nervously biting her lip. “…Do you think she’ll be okay?” She shifts over to Mira, hugging her arm. “Yeah. I may not understand everything, I trust Rumi. She’ll be okay.” She smiles down at Zoey, squeezing her hand. “Let’s go back to the inn, maybe we can get Esta to explain more to us.” That perks Zoey up and she nods. “Yeah, let’s do that. Maybe we can help some way.” She tugs Mira along with her as the head back to the jeep, praying Rumi and you will be alright.
Rumi inhales a deep breath of water, letting her body shift and form into a siren. She lets out a shaky exhale, flexing her tail to get used to the feeling. She swims forward lightly, before nodding and diving. She would find the boys, and she would talk to you. She needs to talk to you about the things Esta told her, to help you figure it all out.
You never knew just how dark the ocean would be this deep. There is no light, not even a speck. The ability to see better in the dark is a handy thing with your new form, but you don’t really like it. You flinch as another shadow passes you. All you want to do is swim back up to the surface and leave. Is this even worth it? You clutch the map Celine gave you to your chest and swim faster, terror making its way up your throat, making it hard to breathe. ‘N-no… No, I have to s-stay calm… I h-have to get to the trench a-and it’ll be fine…’ You pull out the map and squint into the dark, trying to read it. “I… I think I’m close?”
You stop swimming for a moment, suddenly aware of a low rumbling through the water. The fins on the side of your head twitch and you dive straight down. You’re not exactly why, but something in your mind told you to go. ‘Swim, swim. You’ll be eaten if you don’t!!’ You let out a scream as jaws barely miss the end of your tail. You’re swimming so fast you don’t even notice the ocean floor until you slam into it. You grunt, going still as the pain rushes through you. It feels like falling headfirst on the floor. You don’t have much time to process the pain or the blood leaking from your now injured shoulder.
You dart to the left just as another large pair of jaws nearly bite into you. You don’t stop to try and see what is chasing you, you just swim. You notice that you’re in a trench of some sort when you attempt to swim to the side and a spark of hope ignites in your chest. ‘Please, please let this be the right spot.’ You don’t stop swimming, not with the angry roaring right behind you.
You keep your eyes in front of you, focusing on how everything seems to be getting brighter, the longer you swim in this direction. You glance back just once, seeing a glimpse of red and sharp teeth. That’s all you need to see before you are swimming through the gate of some large ruins. “Yes!” You gasp, looking around the weirdly glowing ruins. A roar makes you flinch, and you can see exactly what is chasing you. It’s large, having four pinchers on its face. It has 4 glowing eyes and a mouth full of wickedly sharp teeth.
You nearly cry when you realize that thing almost ate you, shuddering when you see there are two. “Shit… I don’t know how I’m leaving here.” Because you know there is no way you’re going past those things. You let yourself calm down for several moments before swimming further into the ruins. You go to look at the map and gasp. It’s gone! “No, no, no! I need that!” You panic and swim around to see if maybe it slipped out of your grip in the chase. You spot it just on the other side of the gate and sigh in relief, swimming to retrieve it when the jaws of the creature snap in front of your face. You scream and swim backwards, looking on in dismay as it chops on the map.
“Okay... I can do this… I have to do this, or I’ll be… creature food.” You grimace and swim back into the ruins. “A cave… I need to find the cave.” You swim around for hours, searching every corner of these ruins. “Where the hell is it?!” You cry out, frustration and despair curling in your chest. If you can’t find the trident the potion will wear off and you’ll… you’ll drown down here. You swim down a hallway for the fifth time, sighing and glancing all along the wall before a painting catches your eye. It’s old and barely visible, but it’s the way it is sitting on the wall that’s suspicious. You reach out to shift it and gasp, your shoulder throbbing in pain. You grit your teeth through it and pull the painting off the wall.
There, behind the painting, is a tunnel and as you swim through, you can only hope it’ll lead you to where you need it too.
“Have you found anything?” Baby’s voice comes out hoarse, desperation and a hint of madness slip through in his tone. Mystery shakes his head, bowing his head in disappointment. None of them have any leads, not a single one. “There has to be something… W-wed must just be missing it…” Romance begs, looking at each of the with hope. There must be something else. “I’ve searched every damn rock and cave. ___’s gone.” Abby growls and punches the floor, sand clouding the air. “Where could she go? She’s a human, her lungs don’t breathe water.”
Jinu is perched on a rock outcrop staring into the dark abyss below him. “…Gwi-ma has to have a hand in this; there is no other option. She wouldn’t be able to disappear without him interfering.” “But where?” Romance’s voice cracked, he knew they were all feeling just as upset as he is.
“Maybe I can help?” They all snarl and bare their teeth, turning to the intruder with claws ready. Rumi floats several feet away, her hands raised. “I mean no harm, I promise. ___... she’s my friend. I want to help her...” She waits with bated breath, looking at them as they all still, thinking. She decides to offer her help. “I… I know someone who might be able to help. She’s my aunt. She’s… a siren. Her name is Celine… she lives in deeper waters, but she might be able to help.”
Jinu stiffens, glaring at her. “Celine? The sea witch?” Rumi gasps, looking taken aback. “Witch? No, she’s not a witch.” “She is.” Baby snarls, trying to lunge at her and being held back by Abby. “She works for Gwi-ma.” Rumi shakes her head. “No! She doesn’t! She’s my mother’s sister. Gwi-ma killed my mother, she would never!” Rumi refuses to believe her Aunt Celine would ever do something like that. She wouldn’t work with the very being the killed her mother … would she? “It’s worth a shot.” Mystery speaks up, looking between Rumi and Jinu. “…Even if she doesn’t know where ___ is… She can at least tell us what Gwi-ma is up to.”
“I don’t like it, but you’re right Mystery.” He turns to Rumi, his eyes narrowed and glowing. “Lead the way.” Rumi swims, leading them to Celine’s cave. ‘Celine wouldn’t work for Gwi-ma… she… couldn’t… Could she? H-he killed mother why…?’ She dives, heading for a cave opening on the side of a cliff. “She lives in here.” She gestures for them to follow her in, emerging in a large cavern. Rumi surfaces and climbs onto the small outcrop of rock. She glances as the boys slowly pull themselves out of the water, though they don’t shift into their human forms.
Rumi knocks on the door, not expecting an answer. “Aunt Celine is out a lot, collecting herbs and things.” She turns when the door opens. “___! You’re back? I’m surprised -“ Celine freezes when she sees Rumi stand there flanked by five livid sirens. “O-oh, um… Rumi, what brings you here? And who are you friends?” Rumi feels like someone slapped her. How does she know you? Why does she know you? “Aunt Celine… how do you know ___?” Rumi’s tone was cold, expecting the worst answer. “A-ah… Did I say ___? A mere slip of the tongue, I assure you I have no idea what you’re talking about.”
“Stop lying, you snake.” Jinu hisses, shifting to his human form as the others shift as well. She pushes Rumi out of the way and pins Celine to the wall, sharp claws at her throat. “Answer before I spill your blood.” “No!” Rumi cries, trying to pull him off Celine. Abby picks her up and throws her over his shoulder as Baby snarls and stomps over to Celine as well. Mystery starts looking around her house with Romance, searching for anything related to you.
Celine snarls at Jinu, baring her teeth and trying to snap at him. He retaliates and digs his claws into her neck. “A-alright!” She chokes out, kicking at him. “I’ll t-tell you but get off me!” Rumi hits Abby’s back, digging her nails in as she tries to get loose. “P-please! Let her talk!” Jinu growls as he steps back. “You have five minutes.” Celine glares and rubs at her neck, coughing lightly. “…She’s not here. I… I sent her out to get something.” “What? What did you send her out to get?!” Baby looms over her menacingly, ready to murder her if she makes the wrong move. “…The Sea God’s trident.”
“Are you shitting me.” Abby drops Rumi and charges at Celine. “That’s keeping Gwi-ma sealed! Not to mention it’s so deep in the trenches she’ll die before she even gets there.” He would have killed her right then in Mystery hadn’t stepped in the way. “Not yet, we need to know why and how long she’s been gone.” “Talk.” Romance demands, his eyes narrowed. Celine scoffs. “…I gave her a potion. It allows her to be a siren for forty-eight hours. She has a map it shouldn’t be that hard for her. She might even be there by now. As for why? That’s a harder question to answer.”
“Well try.” Rumi says, standing behind the boys looking upset, that she would put you in danger. Celine sighs, resting her head against the wall. “I… I’m working with Gwi-ma…” I knew it.” Baby spits at her. “Why? H-how could you?! He killed mom!!” Rumi yells, tears welling in her eyes. “I’m doing it for us, Rumi! I made a deal with him, if I can get him free, he’ll give your mother’s soul back!” Celine pleads with Rumi, her eyes staring at her with desperation. “Please, you have to believe me. I wouldn’t do it for anything less.”
Rumi shakes her head and turns away, tears falling down her face. “No.. I c-can’t accept that Aunt Celine… I can’t believe you’re working with him…” Rumi leaves the house, unable to process that fact that her last living relative is working with her mother’s murderer. Jinu Glares down at Celine, growling at her as he turns to leave. “Let’s go. We have to go to the trenches.” “What about her?” Abby gestures towards Celine, cracking his knuckles. “No, we need her alive for now, she’s the only connection we have to Gwi-ma and what he’s up to. Tie her up. We can deal with her when we get back.”
Romance drags Celine out and into the water, tying her up so she can’t get away. The others all swim to the entrance and when Romance joins them, they dive. Rumi stares at Celine before shaking her head and swimming after the boys. She is going to help get you back.
It was exceptionally dark in the tunnel, even with better vision. You don’t remember how long you’ve been swimming down this tunnel, but you refuse to give up. You sigh; your body is exhausted from everything. “Just a small rest…” You swim to the bottom of the tunnel and lay flat, letting your body relax. “So sleepy…” You yawn and cover your face. It would be simple to fall asleep, but you know you can’t. It’s too dangerous. After several minutes you swim back up with a grunt. “Wait.” Your eyes catch a faint glint of light from up ahead and you swim faster.
You reach out to touch the light and you breach the surface of the water. You gasp and push yourself up and out of the water, yelling out in pain as your body shifts back to human form. You lay on the ground in pain for several minutes before dragging yourself up and looking around. There is a natural sort of algae on the walls that glows faintly, giving you some light. You start moving, falling the path of the cave until it splits into two different directions. “Let me think…” You observe both paths, one goes back into water, and the other goes above. “I think the upper path. Someplace that sirens would have a hard time reaching.”
You climb as quickly as possible, trying your best not to fall. When you reach the top, you let out a breath you didn’t know you were holding. The path winds before gently sloping up again. You can see a glow at the top of the small incline, hoping it’s the trident. You gasp when you come over the incline. The pearlescent trident stands straight in a pillar of stone, a magic seal locking it in place. ‘This is it. I just need to bring this back to Celine, and I can go home.’
You cautiously approach the trident, feeling the magic hum through air. You stop in front of the trident before pulling out the map, looking it over for any hints. “Dang, everything about the trident is on the other scroll. Let me see.” Looking the seal over, you notice it has a handprint in the middle of it. “That’s too easy.” You decide to look around the room, reading the scrolls scattered about, but you find nothing. “There has to be something. It can’t just be my hand.” You groan in frustration, rubbing your face. You tilt your head back and look up at the ceiling. “Wait.” There on ceiling is a stone carving of a hand, its fingers reaching for the seal below.
“Very clever.” You grin, pulling a small lever on the wall. Gears click and turn in the walls and soon the stone carver is lowered to your level, allowing you to grab it. You take the carving and press it to the seal. The seal pulses with light for several moments before fading into dust. “Moment of truth. Let’s hope I don’t die.” You reach out your hand, squeezing your eyes shut and expecting something to come tumbling out to kill you. Like in adventure movies. You pull the trident out and for several minutes nothing happens, lulling you into a false sense of relief.
You start heading back out, climbing back down to the water-filled entrance you entered through. When the trident touches the water, a shockwave goes out through the whole structure, and it starts crumbling. You cry out and start swimming as fast as you can with the trident clutched to your chest. The tunnel is dark, but thankfully straight, allowing you to speed down it and barrel into the ruins.
You don’t stay and swim frantically for the exit, rocks collapsing all around you. Your eyes light up at the sight of the gate. “Almost there.” You dart forward, your fingers just brushing the gate when a rock slams into your from behind. A scream ripping from your lips as you’re pinned to the ground. You push, shove, and even claw at the ground but nothing budges you. A sob rips from your through. ‘No! I have limited time like this! I c-can’t be stuck, I’ll drown!’
A deep chuckle echoes around you. “Oh, you poor dear.” The voice is deep and smooth like honey. A siren swims up to you, his eyes a deep pink mixed with purple. His hair is long and pink, the ends fade to dark pink and purple. “You have something that belongs to me. Be a dear and hand It over.” He reaches for the trident, and you gasp, keeping it pinned beneath you. “N-no… I need this..” He laughs, his sharp teeth flashing. “My dear. That is mine.” His eyes flash with dangerous intention and he rips the trident from your grasp. “No!”
“___!” Your head snaps up at the sound of your name and you see your sirens coming for you. “J-Jinu!” You hope you got his name right. Your heart flutters and your soul tugs. They want their mates, and so do you. You hated the way they treated you, but anything is better than this. “P-please help!” You suddenly feel sharp claws on the back of your neck. “Oh, this is delicious. My boys… is this your mate by any chance?” His fingers dig into your neck a little harder causing a small whimper of pain to escape you.
“Gwi-ma! Don’t hurt her!” Jinu snarls, swimming even faster to get to you. “Jinu, my son. You stripped me of my power and sealed me away where I would never be found. It’s only fair I have my revenge, no?” Gwi-ma looks down at you and hums, thinking for a long moment. “I know! She’s not supposed to be a siren, is she?” Magic flares at the end of his fingers and you feel your body starting to shift. “N-no I can’t-“ You don’t have time to finish before you choke, closing your mouth and holding your breath. Gwi-ma laughs, he taps the trident on the ground and an energy field trapping the boys. “NO!” “GWI-MA LET US GO!!” “YOU CAN’T DO THIS!” “I’ll KILL YOU!” “RELEASE US!”
You watch through blurry eyes; you can feel your lungs starting to burn. If you don’t get air you’ll drown. You squirm and start floating away. Gwi-ma barely spares you and glance and swims towards the boys. You can only watch as he summons the two large sea monsters that were chasing you earlier. You want to scream and cry. ‘W-what a fine mess I’ve made…’ You can feel your eyes getting heavy, your lungs screaming for air. You can’t hold it anymore and you breathe in, water flooding your lungs. You choke and gurgle, barely aware when someone grabs your face and kisses you.
You gasp, grasping at the person’s arms as air fills your lungs. “___! Are you okay? Can you hear me?!” Your vision clears slightly, though everything is still a bit blurry. “R-Rumi?” You rasp out, your voice sounds horrible. “Y-yes yes, it’s me. Now shhh.” She presses a finger to your lips, glancing over at Gwi-ma. “No questions. Not now, we need to figure out a way to stop him.” She takes your hand and pulls you with her as she swims. “The trident… it’s the only thing that can truly kill him.” Rumi mumbles, remembering something of the scrolls in Celine’s house.
“___, I need your help, we have to get the trident away from him somehow. It’s the only thing that can kill him.” You hold onto her arm tightly, unsure how you’re even alive down here right now, with all the pressure. “His beasts… I have a plan.” Rumi grabs one of your hands. “I need you to do what I tell you, okay? It’s dangerous, but I think it’ll work.” She pulls you closer to where Gwi-ma is taunting the boys and she hugs you. “I know that using you as bait is low, but I need them distracted. Just go hide in the ruins after.” She gives you one more kiss to make sure you’ll still be able to breathe underwater and then she whistles before darting away.
‘Damn it Rumi! Why do I have to be the bait?!’ You don’t get much time to dwell on it before Gwi-ma turns to you. “Oh? Still alive? Get her.” He commands his beasts to kill you. You turn and swim, kicking your legs as fast as you can. You let out a cry as you swim into the ruins, just barely avoiding a mouth full of teeth.
Rumi takes a deep breath and darts over to Gwi-man, ramming into him with her full body weight. He grunts, his grip on the trident loosening just slightly. That’s all she needs. She spins around and snatches it from his grasp, the energy field holding the boys also weakens, allowing them to escape. They all immediately swim towards you, Abby attacking one of the beasts head on. You wince at the sound of the beast screeching. Mystery swims over and curls around you, covering your ears and purring. “Pretty girl…” Jinu swims over and presses kisses all over your face. Baby attacks the other beast, ripping into it with such ferocity it rivaled Gwi-ma. Romance cries and hugs you as best he can, mumbling how much he loves you and misses you, spouting apologies if they hurt or upset you.
Baby and Abby swim in, covered in blood and flesh. Baby grins, an insane look in his eyes. “They won’t hurt you anymore.” Abby chuckles and pats Baby on the back. “They won’t anyone ever again.” Mystery uncovers your ears but doesn’t let you go. “Sweet thing, we’re sorry.” He mumbles against your neck. “We… we shouldn’t have taken as we did.” They all look so guilty that your heart aches. “I… I believe you, b-but we have bigger problems right now. W-we’ll talk later.”
You can hear Rumi fighting with Gwi-ma. “We need to help Rumi…” “And kill Gwi-ma.” Jinu nods and swims back out. “Mystery, stay with ___, make sure she’s safe.” Romance pouts, but gives you a quick kiss and joins Jinu, followed by Baby and Abby. You squirm a bit in Mystery’ grasp. “Please… at least let me see what’s happening?” He hesitates for only a moment before agreeing, he can’t handle you looking so sad. He swims you both over to the door of the ruins, letting you witness the fight firsthand.
You watch as Rumi and Gwi-ma exchange blows. The trident must have fallen to the ocean floor, but neither of them seemed to notice, not yet. Rumi shows no mercy and keeps striking him with everything she has. “You. Killed. My. MOTHER!” She screams, hitting him right in the ribs. He grunts and catches sight of the trident; he flashes a grin and dives for it. “No!” Rumi yells and dives right after him. Jinu pushes himself even faster, snatching the trident before Gwi-ma can, he turns and plunges it into his back.
Gwi-ma freezes, his eyes narrowing in pain. He growls and snarls at Jinu as he bleeds, the trident forcing him to fade. He casts one more look at you, a deep hatred in his eyes. “…for you…” He mouths several things to you, but you only catch the last two words before he’s gone, as if he never existed in the first place.
Everyone stays still, processing what just happened. You swim over to Jinu, the other slowly surrounding you. “J-Jinu?” You call his name softly, almost afraid to touch him. He turns to you, his eyes red, but he’s not crying. He pulls you in for a hug. “I’m sorry. So, so, sorry for how we treated you. I… we understand why you ran and it’s our fault. I-it’s our fault you went through all this, if only we had handled everything better-“ You press a finger to his lips, so he’ll stop rambling. “It was your fault, but I forgive you, even if I shouldn’t. But I do, because I love you. With my heart and soul. It’s fate.”
You look at the others, smiling at them. You press a kiss to Mystery’s nose, a kiss to Romance’s palm, a kiss to Baby’s forehead, and a kiss to Abby’s cheek. Your eyes glance back at Jinu, and you kiss him on the lips. The other boys grumble in protest so you give each of them a kiss as well before turning to Rumi. “Rumi… are you okay?” She shakes her head. “No… No, I’m not.” She gives you a small smile, but I will be. Now, why don’t we go home?” You nod, tugging on Baby’s hand. “Yes please.” They all chuckle, keeping you close as they all ascend.
None of you notice a siren and human sitting on a piece of rubble, smiling. “Our daughter is strong, but she needs to lead her own life. Farewell our dear Rumi, we love you.” They slowly fade with the current, leaving a small pile of sand behind.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~One Year Later~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“ABBY NO!” You squeal, darting away from him as he chases you down the beach. You laugh as he scoops you up and dives into the ocean with you in his arms. Jinu is sitting on a beach chair, sunglasses on as he sunbathes and watches you with Abby. Baby is sitting under an umbrella sipping something sweet while trying to act like he isn’t watching you. Romance is building a sandcastle with a ring of shells around it shaped like a heart, writing your name next to his in the sand. Mystery disappeared a little while ago and you’re pretty sure he ducked back into the water.
Rumi sits with Zoey and Mira, smiling as they watch you interact with your soulmates. “I’m really glad they worked everything out.” Zoey hums softly, watching you and Abby have a water fight. “Me too, she’s happy.” Mira rolls her eyes. “It would have been better if they hadn’t kidnapped her at first… but yeah, I’m glad she’s happy.” “Speaking of happy. How about you, Rumi? What about your aunt?”
Rumi grimaces before she relaxes. “It’s hard. I’m still trying to get over what she did, but… at least we’re talking? Sorta. It still hurts.” Mira and Zoey share a look and hug her. “It’s okay Rumi, we’re here.” She smiles between them. “Yeah, and really? You’re all I need.” Zoey suddenly hops up and starts tugging Rumi’s arm. “Let’s go in the water now!” Mira raises an eyebrow. “We were just in the water ten minutes ago.” “I knowwwwww- But I want to go swim again.” She pouts, giving Rumi puppy eyes. “You just want to see Rumi’s siren form again.” “N-no!” She yelps and looks away with a flush on her face.
Rumi chuckles and stands, pulling Mira with her. “Alright Zoey.” She presses a kiss on her cheek, and they head down to the water again. You watch them head into the water and turn back to the others on the beach. You yelp when you feel fingers touch your toes.” Mystery!” You look down and see him swimming circles around you. He surfaces and peppers your face with kisses. You giggle and kiss him back, running your fingers through his hair.
“Quit sucking on each other’s faces.” Baby grumbles having joined you in the water. He pulls you by your waist and smirks on Mystery. “You gotta kiss her like you mean it.” He pulls you into a bruising kiss, one of his hands cupping the back of your neck, the other around your waist. Your gasp is swallowed by his tongue as you kiss him back. Romance gasps when he notices what’s happening. “No, no! Baby, you going to bruise her beautiful lips!” He splashes into the water, shifting as he goes. He gently pulls you from Baby, glaring at him. “Don’t be a brute. One must appreciate beauty when it can.” He mumbles, brushing his thumb along your bottom lip.
He leans down and kisses you gently, but not less passionately. You let out a soft whimper into the kiss, your hands gripping his shoulders. You break apart with a breathy giggle, your cheeks flushed from all the attention. “Are you pretty, sweetheart?” Abby pulls you to his chest, your hands bracing yourself. “Ah, Abby-“ He cuts you off with his lips, pouring his love and possession into the kiss. His hands slip up your side before resting on your hips, his thumbs brushing gently against your waist.
“It seems our pretty girl is getting the attention she deserves.” Abby pulls back and you gasp, peeking at Jinu over his shoulder. Jinu smirks, his eyes dark with desire. He swims over, gently pulling you off Abby and into his arms. “What do you say we go to our cave for the rest of the day?” He murmurs against your neck, pressing kisses along your throat. You can’t stop the soft moan that escapes you and seeing their reactions, you really don’t want to.
“Yeah... I l-like that idea.” You whisper back to him with a soft laugh. You look back at the others, smiling softly. “Let’s go to the cave, yeah?” Baby grins, his eyes dilating. Romance blows a kiss and winks. Mystery smirks, his sharp teeth showing. And Abby grins, already diving. “What are we waiting for?” You laugh as you’re pulled underwater, their kisses and magic allowing you to breathe as you’re swept away in the utter love and devotion they have for you. Truly, you wouldn’t want to be anywhere else

@lunaramoon1996 and @forshitsandgigglesiguess The boys in rut as requested!
The house is quiet, unusually so. You went shopping after demanding the boys stay home as you needed some alone time. Normally it would be fine (it wouldn’t), but today something pulses beneath their skin. It makes them restless, upset, and needy. Jinu notices Mystery getting more irritated at Baby, snapping and growling at him. Abby practically isolates himself in the gym, working out as hard as he can without injuring himself. Romance is quiet, no flamboyant poetry, no dramatic declarations, he locks his door and stays in his room unless it’s mealtime. Baby is intentionally riling everyone up, teasing and taunting to the point where Jinu had to lock him in the basement.
Though he is being the responsible one doesn’t mean Jinu is unaffected. He can feel the same restlessness the others are. It crawls under his skin and makes him grit his teeth to keep himself composed. “Focus Jinu.” He whispers to himself as he attempts to clean up the kitchen. His knuckles are white from gripping the dishcloth so tightly. He exhales through his nose, grunting at the rush of heat through his body. “Fuck.” He tosses the cloth into the sink and heads straight for his room.
He slams the door shut, barely locking before he’s throwing his shirt on the floor, sweat clinging to his back and face. His pants hit the floor not a minute later as he growls. Though none of them are demons anymore, it doesn’t mean they lost their alpha status. “Fucking rut.” He snarls, grabbing one of your shirts that you left in his room and sits on his bed. He nearly whimpers when he inhales your scent. “Need mate…” He grunts, slowly taking his cock out of his pants, stroking his length. He hisses at how sensitive he is but doesn’t stop, his hand pumping his length faster. He groans, imagining you were the one getting him off right now.
Jinu jolts when Romance knocks on his door. ”…Jinu, are there any of those spicy chips left?” He could hear how tight and strained Romance’s voice is, bordering on desperate. Just like him. “Y-yeah.” He winces when his voice cracks. “T-there should be some in the pantry..” Romance grunts in acknowledgment and leaves Jinu to his own suffering. He groans into his pillow, working himself higher with his hand. It’s not long before he stifles a moan, coming on his hand and the bed. He pants, trying to catch his breath. “It’ll be good enough until she gets back… I hope.” He tucks himself back into his pants and doesn’t even make it to the door before the heat starts building again. “Fuck.”
Downstairs, Romance digs through the pantry desperately looking for anything spicy. He snatches the first bag of spicy chips he sees, hoping the burn from the spice will distract him from the burning heat in his groin. He takes the chips and goes back to his room, kicking the door closed with his foot before locking it.
He tears the bag open and shoves several chips in his mouth, wincing at the flavor. He has never been a fan of spicy food. He clenches his fists tightly, but the burn from the chips does nothing to lessen heat. “My beloved… of all says f-for you to be gone…” He whines, tears welling in his eyes at the unbearable desire and ache he feels for you. He’s already tried masturbation and that only relieved the heat in him for a few minutes, he just needs you.
Mystery is no better. He’s whining, keeping his face buried in a pillow to keep himself quiet as he humps one of your pillows. “M-mate…nghh… n-need my mate…” He whimpers, his fingers digging into the bed sheets with such force he tears them. He growls, biting the pillow to silence his sounds as he spills onto the pillow again. He pants, huffing and whining. It was so hard to control himself without you. He just wants to have you, to hold to, to breed you. He shifts on the bed, grimacing at how sticking it feels, but he knows his rut is far from over.
Abby tries to deny it. Hot? That’s because he’s been working out. Restless? He just needs to train more to relieve the energy he has built up. Being I the gym, lifting weights, doing pushups, it distracts him for a while, keeps him from thinking about how tight his sweats are getting with how much he’s thinking about you. “Shit…” He growls, setting the barbell down with a clank. His breath comes in heavy pants, his fists clenching as he groans, barely able to control himself. He drops down into push-ups, his voice straining as he counters. “One… two… t-three… damn it!” He lets himself drop to the floor, unable to push through the rut like he wished to.
He heaves himself to his feet and heads for the shower. Turning it on cold he shivers, but stays under it, slowly pumping his cock. “Come on… fuck this…” He grunts; he’s a lot more sensitive than normal. He braces himself on the wall of the shower as he brings himself to climax, spilling in the shower and letting the water wash away his mess. He quickly washes and changes into new sweatpants. The rut still surges through him as he heads to his room. This is going to be a long few days.
Baby scratches at the basement door, angry that Jinu had locked him there. He huffs and growls, refusing to touch himself. He wants you to be the one who helps him. He lets out a pathetic whine and grimaces at how weak he sounds. “Fuck this shit.” He punches the wall, trying to ignore how hard he is and how desperate he is for you to get home. He wants to take you into his room and have his way with you, to stuff you full and get you pregnant. All he knew in his rut fueled haze is that he wants you. Now.
You’re entirely oblivious to the situation happening at home, happily shopping for a few essentials that you need. Once you cross everything off your list you go to the local bakery to get each of your boys a slice of their favorite cake as a treat. You were proud that they listened to you and didn’t follow you to the store. You pull up into the driveway of your home, shutting the car off and taking the groceries in.
You set everything down on the kitchen counter and you realize something is wrong. None of the boys have come to greet you. You can smell their scents, and they all seem normal, but something just isn’t right. You toss your purse and keys on the counter and head upstairs. Jinu is the first to smell you, your scent washes over him like a breath of fresh air. He wastes no time darting from his room and pulling you in with him, locking the door behind you both. “Mm, sorry… n-need you so bad…” He nuzzles into your neck, immediately biting and sucking small marks onto your skin.
You yelp, your hands gripping his shoulders tightly. “J-Jinu what-?” He whines, breaking away from your neck to meet your eyes. Never in your time with them have you seen Jinu look so vulnerable and weak. “Our r-rut… it’s… ngh… n-need you..” It dawns on you then why he’s so desperate. “Okay… you can have me, Jinu.” You weren’t going to deny him the relief he needed, especially not after they helped you through your heat. Besides, why would complain about having all your mates make love to you?
You gasp when he pins to his bed, kissing down your throat as he fiddles with your shirt. He pulls back only to quickly take your shirt off before he’s back to kissing you. Small gasps and whimpers leave you as he slips your bra off, kissing down to the curve of your breast, using one of his hands to gently squeeze your other breast. “Pretty girl… so perfect for me.” Jinu is usually a patient man, taking his time to tease you and work you up, but not now. He mumbles apologies against your stomach as he slips your pants and panties off. “Need you pretty girl... need you so bad.” He looks up and meets your eyes, begging. “G-go ahead Jinu.”
He growls, moving forward to lick up your slit. You moan, your thighs instinctively clenching around his head. He doesn’t even seem to care, continuing to eat you out like a starving man. He shifts and gives you clit a suck causing you to cry out his name. “A-ah Jinu-!” He moans against your slit, rubbing a thumb around your clit before pushing two fingers in. You’re already wet, so the stretch doesn’t hurt, just fuels the heat coiling in your abdomen. You moan, feeling his fingers stretch you. “I c-can’t wait anymore my love.” He shifts his body up, angling so his cock presses gently on your entrance. “I’ll b-be gentle.” As gentle as he can be anyway. He slowly pushes in, groaning as you gasp, mewling softly into his neck. “F-fuck… pretty girl you feel so good…”
He clenches his fists into the sheets, barely holding back long enough to let you adjust. He would feel terrible if he pushed too hard and hurt you. After a minute he slowly pulls out and thrusts back in, drawing a moan from you and a groan from him. He sets a steady rhythm, pounding into you with the desperate need of an alpha in rut. His heavy breaths echo in your ear along with his whispered praises. ‘Such a good girl.’ ‘You take me so well.’ ‘You f-feel so good baby.’ Each praise goes straight to your core, winding you up tighter and tighter as both your cries and groans echo through the room.
Eventually you can feel the shift in his thrusts, he’s getting close. His pace stutters, as he goes harder, chasing his release. “C-can I cum inside you...?” He asks, whimpering the closer he gets. You nod, too lost in the pleasure to deny him. “T-thank you, thank you-“ His hips stutter and suddenly he’s spilling inside you with a low moan just as your high hits. You clench down on his cock, crying out as your orgasm washes over you.
The air is thick with both your scents, sweat, and the smell of sex. He slumps forward, careful of his weight. You pant against his shoulder as you both come down from your highs. “W-well… not how I planned the day going…” He snorts, but you can feel his grin. “Mm... sorry pretty girl… are you disappointed?” You chuckle weakly, shaking your head. “No, I’m not.” You groan softly when he shifts, slowly pulling out. You can feel a bit of his release slip out. “You’re so messy…”
He lets out a tired laugh, pulling you against him so he can press several kisses to the top of your head. “Mm… love you, pretty girl.” You smile, running your fingers through his hair. “I love you too Jinu.” He moves, gently slipping out of your grip and heading to the bathroom. He grabs a warm, wet cloth and gently wipes you down. You yawn as he climbs back into bed, cuddling up with him as you both doze off.
A cool breeze blows in from the open window in Jinu’s room, slowly waking you up. You shiver and roll over, feeling hungry. You quietly slip from the bed, trying your best not to disturb Jinu. You take one of his shirts and slip it on, heading down into the kitchen. You sort through the fridge, a yawn escaping you as you pull out a container of fruit. You pop a piece of your favorite fruit in your mouth, turning to see Romance in the doorway. “Romance? Are you-“ He’s in front of you before you can even finish your question, burying his face in your neck with a groan. “My mate… darling..” He’s nearly purring, slipping his hands under you as he picks you up, carrying you towards his room. “R-Romance wait-“ You reach for the fruit still out on the counter.
He ignores your protest. “Mm, sorry darling. Y-you can eat later… I need to eat you right now.” Your cheeks flush at his words, gripping his shoulders. He steps into his room and locks the door, gently laying you down on the bed. “So pretty…” He murmurs, leaning down to place kisses down you neck to your shoulders. His fingers slowly slip under the shirt you have on, his featherlight touches on your skin making you whimper slightly. “Ah, my love. Your sounds are delightful, more beautiful than any song.”
His words only further increase the heat slowly building again, your hips twitching against his subconsciously. “Mmph!” He grunts, his put-together façade cracking. “My dear, I fear I am losing what little control I have left…” He shifts the shirt up and grins. “Easy access for me, darling?” He presses kisses up your belly through the valley between your breasts while his fingers gently start rubbing circles around your clit. “Mmm… R-Romance..” You whine, trying to buck into his touch.
He pulls back, his chest heavy with his pants as he quickly does away with his shirt. “I’m afraid I can no longer resist, my dear.” He hovers over you, love shining in his eyes along with a desperate desire. He leans down to kiss you while he forces himself to gently enter you. You moan into the kiss; the stretch is only slightly uncomfortable after Jinu had stretched you out earlier. “O-oohh.. you feel so good, my darling… My sweet.” He gently starts thrusting, clearly restraining himself from just pounding into you. You can feel it in the way his muscles tense each time he thrust in, even in the haze of his rut, he’s trying his best to be gentle.
“R-romance- Please…” You whimper, rolling your hips to meet his thrusts. You appreciate his desire to not hurt you, but right now you just want him to pound you. “P-please… harder…” Romance pauses for a moment, looking down at your face, as if to check and see if you really are okay with him going harder. Seeing nothing to contradict what you said, he picks up the pace. You let out a cry of his name, clenching down on him as he manages to hit that one spot that makes you see stars. He groans at the sudden pressure of your walls squeezing him. “D-Darling… you don’t know what you do to me...” His voice is strained and he groans, burying his face in your neck. He angles his hips to hit that spot every thrust and it’s not long until you cum with a cry of his name.
He hisses and groans, biting into your neck as his hips stutter, spilling inside you. He pulls back and soothes the bite mark with his tongue. “That… that was amazing, darling.” He huffs out a small laugh, grinning into your shoulder. “O-only you could make me fall apart so easily... My only regret is that I couldn’t take my take and worship your body as much as you deserve. Mm, next time.” He whispers softly, already on the verge of sleep. You gently tap his forehead. “Ro… you h-have to pull out.. I’ll get sore if you don’t.” He mumbles something and gently pulls out, both of you hissing. He’s asleep before you can say anything else, causing you to smile at him. You move some of his hair out of his face, he truly does look exhausted. “Poor babies… I bet you all suffered today.” You scoot to the edge of his bed; your legs are shaky and unsteady. “…Okay, this is going to be harder than I thought.”
You stand and brace yourself on the nightstand. Stumbling you manage to find your balance and wobble slightly as you make your way to the bathroom. You step into the bathroom and look at yourself in the mirror. “Hah, look at you, such a mess.” You hum softly, running your fingers on Romance’s bite mark. “A good mess though. And we’re not done yet, I gotta help the other boys next.” You take a quick shower, just to get some of the sweat off you before heading to Mystery’s room, not even bothering to put clothes on, they’ll be off soon enough.
You pause outside Mystery’s door, your chest aching at the muffled whimpers and whines coming through his door. You knock. “Myst? Myst it’s me. ___. Please let me in.” There is silence for only a moment before the door is yanked open and you are pulled inside. You yelp and suddenly you’re pinned on his bed. He whines, nuzzling your neck and nipping small marks onto your skin. You moan softly, running your fingers through his hair and tugging. He growls and starts grinding against your slit. “N-need you…” He whimpers, his voice heavy, almost like he had been crying. You gasp, gently pushing his bangs away to see his red-rimmed eyes. “Oh Myst…” You whisper and bring him down for a kiss. “Take what you need, I’m here to help you.”
He whimpers and pushes into you, not as gently as the others, but you’re wet and he’s desperate. He groans and sets a steady rhythm, growling and nipping at your neck. You let out a cry, pulling him down closer to you. “M-mystery-!” You moan out his name as he slips on hand between you both to rub circles into your clit. Your high approaches quickly and soon you’re gushing around him as you cum.
Mystery doesn’t stop, thrusting through your high as he chases his own. When you start whining about overstimulation, he apologizes, mumbling how good you’re being, how you can hold out just a little longer, that you can give him one more. Your breath hitches as you feel another climax building, his thrusts getting a bit harder as he approaches his own high. “T-together… pleaseeee.” He whines, wanting to feel you squeeze his cock as you both cum. You nod, moaning and rolling your hips with his thrusts. “T-together…” He thrusts once more and you both fall over the edge. You cry out and he groans, spilling inside you as you climax for a second time on him. “F-fuck Myst…” You pant, trembling as you both come down.
He pulls out, growling quietly when some of his release leaks out. You giggle softly. “Shh, it’s fine.” You hold his head to your chest as he nuzzles you, a light purr rumbling out of him. You’re just dozing when a knock echoes at the door. Glancing over you see Abby leaning on the doorframe, his shirt off and a very obvious bulge in his pants. “While you look cute like that sweetheart… I don’t think you’re done yet.” You let out a breathless laugh. “Yeah, I’d say so.” He walks over and picks you up, your legs wrapping around his waist. “Hm, you wouldn’t mind if both me and Baby had a turn at the same time, would you? Cause I don’t think he can wait any longer, and neither can I.”
You flush, hiding your face in his neck as he heads downstairs. “U-um.. s-sure.” You stutter out. You’ve never taken two of them at the same time, and you’re a bit nervous, but you know they’ll take care of you even when they’re in rut. He heads for the basement door. “Huh? Baby’s in the basement?” Abby laughs, holding you with one arm and unlocking the door with the other. “Yep. Jinu had to lock him in the basement because he kept breaking out of his room and he was riling everyone up.” You snort a laugh. Yeah, that sounds like Baby. A nervous flutter stays in your belly as Abby walks into the basement. “Baby. Come out here.”
Your jaw almost drops from how ragged Baby looks. “Oh my gosh! Baby what-“ Abby squeezes your hip. “He wouldn’t even try to relieve himself, said he had to keep himself for you.” You squirm in Abby’s arms. “Put me down Abby.” He shakes his head. “Nu-uh. Not until we lay out the ground rules for him, he’s lost in the haze of is his rut, and he could accidently hurt you.” He shifts you higher up his body. “You’re probably going to want him in the ass, cause despite his complaints, he is smaller than me.” You flush and look away in embarrassment at his casual remark. “C’mon sweetheart, we gotta stretch you out.”
Surprisingly Abby is the most controlled out of everyone. He sits you on the table in the basement and kisses you, running his hands down your side. “Mm, you taste sweet.” He chuckles at your flushed face and reaches behind you into a cabinet, pulling out a bottle of lube. Baby hovers behind him, sniffing the air like a dog trying to catch the scent of prey. Abby ignores him and pours some lube on his hands. “…Abby why is there lube in the basement cabinet?” He looks at the skeptical look on your face. “What? Don’t tell me you’ve never thought about having sex on the table.”
You huff and go to protest, but Abby slipping a single finger up your ass causes you gasp and grasp his arms. “O-okay that’s weird…” You wince slightly at the sting, at that’s just one of his fingers. When he slowly slips a second in your hiss softly. He gently moves his fingers, trying to loosen you up. You let out a soft mewl, trying not to clench and tense up. It’s only when he manages to slip a third finger in without you wincing that he deems you ready. “Alright sweetheart. You ready for the fuck of your life? I don’t think I can hold onto my restraint once I’m in you.”
He motions for Baby to lay down on the table behind you. “Alright, you’re going to go slow. Do I make myself clear?” He stares at Baby, trying to make him understand through the haze of lust caused by the rut. “Yeah.” Baby grunts, quickly removing his pants and gently pushing on your ass. “Hey!” Abby growls, tossing the lube bottle at him. “Use lube you idiot. Do you want to hurt her?” Baby winces as the bottle hits his head, pouring a generous amount on his cock before gently pushing into your ass. You tense up at the foreign feeling but will yourself to relax. You let out a soft sound when he bottoms out and Abby takes that as his cue.
“Alright, it’s my turn.” He moves you gently so he can line up with your slit. He groans as he pushes in, and you yelp. You have never felt this full before. Abby gives you a moment to adjust to them before both of them pull out, Abby thrusting in while Baby pulls out. You let out a sharp cry, clenching down on their cocks. Baby lets out a muttered curse, biting into your shoulder as he gives a harsh thrust. Your mind glazes over and all you can focus on is the feeling of both of them thrusting into you like madmen. You can’t complain, even though you know that you’ll be sore the next day, but it feels so good.
Abby starts mumbling dirty things in your ear. ‘You’ve been waiting for this, haven’t you?’ ‘Bet you were wet all day, just waiting to be fucked like this, huh?’ Every word goes straight to the arousal building between your legs. Your moans and cries echo around the basement, but neither of them care. Baby groans his hands digging into your hips. “I c-can’t… nghh..” He thrusts once, twice and then he’s spilling into you. Abby curses, feeling you clench down as your high hits you, he hilts himself inside you and also spills his release. You cry and grasp at his arms, shoulders, anything to ground yourself as you gush on both of them.
Abby holds you steady as you come down from your high while Baby mumbles sleepily against your shoulders. “Mm… comfy…” Abby rolls his eyes at Baby before looking down at you. “You okay sweetheart?” You nod against his chest, already half-asleep. He chuckles and reaches over to tap Baby’s shoulder. “Pull out. We need to give her a shower then get her to bed.” Baby whines but does as Abby says. You’re amazed at how whiny and clingy Baby is with his rut, it’s such a difference from how he usually acts.
You barely register Abby scooping you up and carrying you upstairs to the bathroom, Baby right behind you. Baby starts the shower and grabs some towels while Abby steps into the warm spray, gently washing down your body. “Such a good girl. You did so well for us.” He murmurs to you, quietly praising how good you are for them. He gently passes you to Baby who dries you off, carrying you to Abby’s room and setting you on the bed. They both cuddle you as you doze off, both of them following you into sleep.
The next morning you wake up to Abby and Baby hard again, slowly grinding against you. You look up at the doorway to see the other three hovering and waiting for their turns, all of them hard as well. You groan softly as your body aches. This is going to be long few days.

The sun is bright, the warm rays shining down on the white beach. The cool water laps at the shore, sending small sprays of water into the air. You hold your sun hat down against a gust of warm wind, squinting further down the beach at your friends. Zoey is shooting Mira with a water gun, laughing and squealing when Mira chases after her. Rumi is lounging in a sun chair, her sunglasses on as she sunbathes.
It was Zoey’s idea to take a vacation. Work was getting stressful for all of you, working as idols, their work schedules were running them down and as member of their PR team, you were just as overworked as they are. So, Zoey searched for the perfect spot to take a vacation, and she settled on a quaint little fishing village. Mira was against the idea at first, but once Rumi agreed she gave in and dragged you with them, saying if she had to go so did you.
It’s a quaint village with a population of about 100 people. You’re staying in the town’s inn, Serra’s Tail’, which gives you a wonderful view of the beach. You’re shaken from your thoughts by Zoey yelling at you. “___! Come on! Mira’s about to go diving!” You smile at her enthusiasm and jog over, taking your sun hat off and setting it by Rumi’s stuff. “Diving, huh?” “Yep!” Zoey grins, practically vibrating. “Annnd if it goes well, we all can go diving!” You look over at Rumi, confusion flickering in your eyes. Rumi just shrugs, rubbing her arm over her tattoos. “Some older woman at the inn told Zoey one of us could go diving and if it went smoothly, we all could. She didn’t say why though.”
With a shrug you turn back to Mira who is currently suited up in a diving suit. “Finally, this trip is going to interesting.” She smirks at Zoey. “Maybe something cool will happen.” “NO! You have to behave! I reallllly want to go diving!” The pout on Zoey’s lips and the look in her eyes is enough to sway even Mira. “Alright, alright. Don’t need to get all sappy on me.” You shake your head at their antics, a smile on your face. “Be careful down there Mira.”
You all watch as Mira and the instructor disappear under the water. Zoey bounces around the beach, making sandcastles, chatting up with Rumi and making sand angels. You giggle at her excitement, sitting down on the edge of the beach, letting the water lap at your feet. You look down at your hands and then back out at the water, something is strange here. You don’t know what exactly, but ever since you’ve arrived here there has been a twinge of something in your chest. It’s too faint to know what the feeling is, but it’s there. The longer you stare at the water the more you feel compelled to walk into it.
“Hey! Earth to ___!” You jump, flinching back as Zoey’s hand waves in your face. “Huh? Zoey?” You look up at her in confusion. “About time. I thought maybe you fell asleep, I’ve been calling your name for like five minutes.” “Oh..” You smile at her sheepishly, rubbing your arm. “Sorry, Zoey. Guess I got lost in thought.” She giggles and shakes her head, reaching over to grab your hand. “No biggie! But Mira’s back! It all went fine, so come on! We’re going diving!”
You let her pull you over to the others, taking one last glance at the ocean. “Alright, we’re good now!” You bring your attention to the instructor, who’s holding three air tanks. “Alright, I’m going to teach you all how to strap these on, to check your oxygen levels, and what to do if you get stuck…” You listen as the instructor explains everything you’ll need to know while diving. “Now, that’s not everything of course. But it should be enough for your guy’s little dive here. The area you’ll be swimming in is enclosed with an orange net we set up, so you won’t have to worry about swimming too far. The water is clear, and the weather is calm. Good luck!”
The instructor helps you all into your gear and then sees you off, directing you into the water before moving to sit back up on a chair, to wait for you guys to return. As soon as you’re submerged you have to steady yourself on Rumi’s shoulder, giving her a thumbs up when she looks at you in concern. Gently swimming through the clear water is calming. You watch small fish dart by, the seaweed sway in the current. It’s a beautiful world under the sea, so different from the busy life you live with the girls. You swim around a piece of rock and come face to face with a funny-looking fish. You turn to motion the girls over only to notice they’re nowhere to be seen. A jolt of panic goes up your spine and you swim forward looking for them.
You’re so busy looking for them, you don’t notice when you swim right past a pair of slitted, glowing eyes. Nor do you notice the clawed, webbed hand that reaches for you and just misses your leg. You freeze when a shiver goes down your spine and you spin as fast as you can, glancing around for what could make you feel so uneasy.
Seeing nothing you dart back towards the shore, the distinct feeling of someone watching you creeping up your spine. When you break through the surface of the water you see the girls on the beach, looking concerned. You drag yourself up the shore and they rush over to you, helping you get out of the diving suit. “___, are you okay?!” “You disappeared!” “Where did you go?” Three concerned girls stare down at you as you shiver slightly. “I’m f-fine…” Your teeth chatter lightly. Why are you suddenly so cold? “I m-must have drifted further from you guys than I thought…”
Rumi looks you over, something flashing in her eyes, but it’s gone before you can see what it is. “Thank goodness you’re okay!” Zoey gives you a squeeze before stepping back to let the instructor look you and the equipment you’re wearing over. “Everything looks fine… You need to be more careful when underwater. The currents have no mercy, and they will drag you to a watery grave. It happens too much around here.”
“It won’t happen to us!” Zoey says, gripping your arm tightly. “We won’t let her out of our sight!” You sigh, glancing back at the water, the prickling feeling of being watched is gone, but you know something was watching you. “Alright, let’s go back to the inn.” Mira cut through the thoughts in your head. She and Rumi share a glance before packing up their stuff and walking back up the path to the inn, Zoey talking your ear off the whole time.
By the time you make it back to the inn, the sun is just dipping below the horizon, casting a beautiful orange glow. “Mm, it’s dinner time! I can smell the food from here!” Zoey tugs Rumi along after her as she jogs towards the inn. Mira rolls her eyes, but she has a small smile on her face as she jogs to catch up. You hang back, thinking back to the swim you took earlier. There had to be something watching you, you can remember the distinct feeling of something staring at your back. You shiver, casting a glance over your shoulder before jogging to inn.
You don’t feel very hungry as you enter the dining room, watching all three girls eating to their hearts content. You still have a nagging feeling of unease, or maybe it’s anticipation? You really can’t tell, but you do know that you want to be alone so you can try and sort all of these feelings out. “Hey guys, I’m not very hungry right now. I’m just going to go to my room, okay? I’ll see you all later.” “Mmph- Night!” Zoey says through a mouthful of food. Rumi waves at you through a mouthful of fries and Mira nods, though she does look a bit worried.
You ascend the steps quickly, heading straight for your room. With a heavy sigh you slip in and shut the door behind you. Resting your head on the door you blink up at the ceiling, feeling something in your chest stirring. It was an odd feeling, almost like longing and every time you look out at the ocean it gets stronger. “I must be really tired from the trip.” You sigh while rubbing your eyes. Taking a deep breath, you grab a hoodie and a pair of sweatpants from your luggage, slipping them on and moving over to the window.
You open the window, allowing the cool evening air in as you sit on the windowsill. Everything is gorgeous, the weather, the view, the ocean. You rest your head on the side of the window and stare out at the calm water. ‘This is so weird… why... why do I feel something’s missing? Like the ocean is… calling me home.’ You sit there for hours, thinking and trying to figure out why everything in your is compelling you to go to the beach and just… walk into the ocean.
You sit there for several hours; the sun has long since set and the moon rises to take its place. You sigh, shifting with a stretch and moving to head to bed when you see it. Your gaze snaps to the distant ocean, you would swear up and down you saw something move. You stare for several long minutes, and you gasp, something jumps in the water. You don’t even realize you’re moving until your bare feet touch the sand of the beach and you jolt, glancing back up at the inn. Taking a quick look wouldn’t hurt… right? With a shaky sigh you walk forward. “H-hello?” You call out, looking around for anyone who might have been in the water.
A shiver goes down your spine and you feel the distinct sensation of being watched again, just like earlier. You whirl around to find nothing. Your mouth goes dry, your palms sweaty. Something is wrong, but why does it feel so right? Why does your heart skip like this is where you’re supposed to be? ‘T-this is a terrible idea, ___! You should go back!’ You try not to think about how you walked to the beach without even being aware, that would only cause you panic more if you focused on it. You shiver again and bolt, running as fast as you can towards the path back up to the inn, this was a mistake. You suddenly freeze when a melody reaches your ears.
‘Home is behind
The world ahead
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadow
To the edge of night
Until the stars are all alight
Mis and shadow
Cloud and shade.’
Your eyes glaze over, and you turn back to the beach, the enchanting song curling around you like a warm hug. You walk towards the water; your only thoughts are to find the person singing such a beautiful song.
‘All shall fade
All, shall fade.’
You wade into the water up to your waist and then you feel it. Soft touches on your legs, cold, webbed hands gently touch your hands, your arms. The further you get, the more you don’t want to leave.
“___!” You jolt at the sound of your name, the touches disappear, and you find that you’re cold. You shiver violently and quickly exit the water. Zoey, Mira, and Rumi are on the beach staring at you like you’re crazy. “What the hell are you doing?” Mira hisses, snatching your wrist when you’re within reach. “Gosh, you’re freezing.” Zoey cuddles up to your back. “___.... What are you doing out here?” She asks quietly, worry lacing her tone.
You cast a glance back at the ocean and you feel a tug in your chest, like something is pulling you towards it. You shiver again and ignore it. “I c-couldn’t sleep a-and came out for a walk…” You lie through your chattering teeth. No way you’re telling them you came down here in a trance. At least you think it was a trance. “And you end up in the ocean?” Mira snaps, but you know she’s just concerned, especially with the way she tugs you closer to her.
“I’m s-sorry…” Rumi watches you for a moment before her eyes flicker to the ocean, something flashing through them before she turns away. “I think that’s enough excitement for tonight. Let’s get back to the inn, we can talk more tomorrow. I’m sure ___ is tired.” Mira huffs, wanting to argue with Rumi, but the way you shiver in her arms has her biting her tongue.
“Alright.” She loosens her grip enough for Zoey to pull into her side and start walking you back towards the inn. Mira stays behind with Rumi, waiting until you and Zoey are far enough away before speaking. “…Do you think?” Rumi takes another glance at the ocean. “I don’t know.” She says nothing else and moves to catch up with you and Zoey.
Zoey has you in the common area in front of the fire, several blankets wrapped around you. “Are you any warmer?” She asks, sitting down next to you and scooting closer to cuddle. You nod with shaky exhale; the shivers are starting to fade. “Y-yeah. Thanks Zoey.” You turn to Mira and Rumi as they walk in, but Mira just heads straight up to her room. “…I think she’s m-mad at me.” You whisper, pulling the blanket closer. “She’s just concerned.” Rumi says, stepping into the common area with a cup of hot chocolate. “Here, this will help you warm up.” She sets the cup down on the table in front of you.
You gently reach out and sip the drink, letting out a happy hum. “Delicious. Thanks Rumi.” She smiles and you and sits on your other side. “Are you sure you’re okay?” She asks one more time, gently leaning a bit closer to you. You nod, taking another sip of the drink. “Yes… I’m sure.” You three sit in silence for a long while.
Your mind racing over everything that has happened in the last hour. You were entranced when you went down to the beach. You don’t even remember walking there, but that’s not what frightens you most. No… you actually want to go back out there. You want to wade into the waters and let whatever creature has that heavenly voice take you.
That’s what scares you, because you don’t know what it is. It could want to kill you for all you know. But then why does it feel so right? You vaguely remember hands touching you in the water, why weren’t you scared of them? With a soft sigh you get up, gently setting the cup down. “Thank you, guys for all this, but I’m really tired, so I’m going to turn in.”
“Goodnight.” Zoey smiles after you, and Rumi mumbles a quiet ‘sleep well’ as she herself starts dozing onto the arm of the couch. You make your way up to your room, immediately locking the window and pulling the curtains down. “I don’t know what’s happening… But I’m scared, yet not. Why does my heart tell me going out there is right?” You groan and flop onto the bed, covering your face. “Ew… I need to change.” You quickly grab new clothes, take a quick shower and settle in for the night, praying nothing else weird would happen the next few days.
The next morning comes far too quickly and the sun peeking through a gap in the curtains causes you to whine in annoyance and bury your face further into your pillows. You just start to doze back off when a loud knock echoes through the room. “___! You better be getting up! I have plans today!!” *Zoey squeals way too loudly for this early in the morning. “…Five more minutes…” You grumble back at her. “GIRL! It’s like 10:30! Get upppp, we’re already running late!” She goes silent for a few minutes before speaking again, jerking you back awake. “I’ll be back in five minutes, and you better be up!”
You hear her footsteps disappear down the hall and you grunt, weakly punching your pillow in frustration. You’re still tired! Sighing, you slip out of bed and wobble over to the dresser… you don’t even know where you’re going or what to wear. You grab a one-piece swimsuit and a shawl, whatever Zoey has planned, you can bet it involves the beach. You change and slip the shawl on, tying it was a ribbon you have. “Pretty nice.” You look down at your outfit and nod, grabbing some sunscreen, and heading out the door.
When you reach the lobby, you see all three girls in their own swimsuits. “Hey guys.” You smile and wave as you approach them. “Finallyyyyy. I thought you’d never wake up.” You roll your eyes a Zoey’s antics. “Well, I’m up now. Where are we going?” “Okay okay- Soooo, I was looking at a map of the village yesterday and I found this!” She pulls up a map on her phone and points to a cove not far from the village. “See! I asked the innkeeper about it, and she said it was safe this time of year.”
“Yes… but don’t be caught there after dark.” You all turn to see the elderly innkeeper walking down the stairs. “You young folks aren’t from here and you don’t know out stories. Creatures lurk in the water around here, especially that cove. Many a fisherman has gone missing there, so be wary. Don’t go in the water and never go there after dark, do you understand?” You all stand by the entrance, shivers going down all your spines. “Y-yes, ma’am!” You mumble out, your mind going to last night. You look up and the innkeeper is staring right at you. “Good. Now go enjoy yourselves!”
“I feel like I can’t enjoy myself now.” Zoey grumbles, another shiver going down her spine. “Ugh, why did she have to be so creepy?!” Mira scoffs, adjusting her hat and sunglasses. “She said it was a story, Zoey. That doesn’t mean it’s true. Let’s just go and enjoy our day, yeah?” Zoey pouts but still heads for the jeep outside. “Okay fiiiiine- But if anything, scary jumps out I’m hiding behind you!”
You chuckle at her antics, but your mind is occupied elsewhere. If there really is some sort of creature... why would it want you? Rumi watches you climb into the jeep behind Mira, she knows something is going on with you, but she can’t quite place it. She could make a calculated guess, but she really doesn’t want it to be true. She shakes her head of the thoughts, this is supposed to be a fun day and she’s not going to ruin it.
The cove is about thirty minutes from the village, and you have to admit, the sight is gorgeous. The water is bright blue, the sand white and undisturbed, shells scattered on the shore. “Wow…Zoey you really know how to pick good places. It’s beautiful.” Mira drives the jeep to the designated parking space and turns it off. “Who’re ready for another beach day?” “I AM!” Zoey yells, jumping out of the jeep and bolting for the beach. “Hey! Wait for us!” Rumi quickly climbs out and follows her, followed by Mira who is scoffing and shaking her head, but you can see her smile. You grab your sunscreen and beach bag, walking down the slope to the beach, taking time to appreciate the scenery.
By the time you set up a little spot to sit, Zoey is having a water fight with Mira and Rumi. You laugh, slipping your shawl off to apply sunscreen to your arms and legs. “Hey girls, come put some sunscreen on before you all burn to crisps!” In a rush of laughter and water, they all jog over to you and each of them applies sunscreen. “Oo! Look, a cave.” Zoey giggles and grabs Mira’s wrist. “Come on, let’s go look!” You shrug, taking Rumi’s hand and following them. “Why not? Let’s have some fun.”
As you all step into the cave, you can see light at the other end. “Oh, it must lead to another part of the cove.” Zoey breaks into a sprint, Mira stumbling and yelling at her to slow down. You and Rumi laugh as you follow them. This of the cove is somehow even more beautiful than the other side. The sun shines down on hundreds of shells, shining off them to creature a kaleidoscope of colors on the side of the cliff. “Wow….” You stare at the colors bouncing off the shells and bend down to pick one up. “These are gorgeous. You think I’d get in trouble for taking some to make us necklaces with them?” “Nah, I doubt they’ll miss a few.” Mira shakes her head, picking up one herself. “They are really pretty, huh.”
You move to slip the shells into your beach bag only to curse softly. “Damn, I left my bag on the other side of the cove. “I’ll be right back guys, just gotta go grab it quick.” You jog back into the cave and dash to the other end, panting as you pick up your bag. “Okay yeah… definitely walking through this time… dang…” You press a hand to your side as it aches, not used to running so far. You shuffle through your bag as you don’t notice the cool breeze in the cave, not until you hear a soft voice whisper to you. “Sweet thing… why don’t you come here? To us?”
You freeze, your bag dropping to the ground as you slowly turn to see who said that. Your eyes widen when you see a man…? Fish..? You don’t even know. He blinks up at you, leaning on his arms as he pulls himself out of a small pool to get closer to you. His long pink hair spills over his shoulders, complimenting his teal-colored tail. You can’t deny he’s attractive, but there is something unsettling about how he’s looking at you. He coos softly and holds out a webbed hand. “Come darling, take my hand. We’ll take you home.” His tail twitches and he moves his head to catch your eyes. “We won’t hurt you.”
You step back, staring at him in fear… or is it? Your traitorous heart skips a beat, and you feel that infernal tug again, like something is pulling you towards this... fishman. “W-we…?” You choke out, trying to make sense of this. He grins, showing off his rows of sharp teeth. “Yes, we. Did you think I was the only one who wants you?” You tilt your head in confusion. “I w-wouldn’t know... I’ve never met you before…” He pulls himself a little closer to you. “Ah… but we have. Last night? I sang for you my sweet. And you were so pretty, coming to us to willingly… until those pesky humans got in the way… But that’s behind us. I have you now, we’ll keep you safe and warm.” He purrs and he starts to hum.
You gulp, torn between logic and whatever the hell your heart wants you to do. “I c-can’t… they…” You glance towards the girls, their laughter echoing through the cave. “I d-don’t… No...” You shake your head, fear starting to creep up your spine as you watch his eyes darken. “My dear, I don’t want to use force… But I will, oh I will if that’s what it takes.” He opens his mouth, the first few notes of a hypnotic song echoing in your ears before Rumi yells your name. His head snaps in her direction, and he snarls, teeth bared as he slips back into the water, but not before staring into your soul with his golden eyes. “We will have you, sweet thing. In time, you will be ours.”
You shudder, stumbling back and picking up your bag just as Rumi reaches you. “Hey, what’s taking you so- Are you okay?” She cuts herself off and grabs your shoulders, looking at your pale face and the hint of fear in your eyes. “What’s wrong? What happened?” Your mind is racing a mile a minute. “I’m f-fine I just…” You don’t want to tell her; you need to sort this out yourself. This feeling of want. Why would you want to go with him? You need answers and you have to figure them out yourself. You can’t bear the thought of any of the girls getting hurt because of you. So, with a deep breath you look Rumi in the eyes. “I’m fine, Rumi.” She scoffs, glaring at you. “No, you’re not. Look at you, you’re shaken up, pale, and afraid. What happened.”
She presses and presses until you snap. “I’m fine! Leave me the hell alone, okay?!” You immediately feel guilty for yelling at her, but you want her to get the point. You don’t want her involved. Her face goes blank, and she pulls back. “Fine. Fine, keep your secrets. I know something is going on. Something happened last night and now this. I worry about you, we all do. But if you don’t want to let us in then… So be it. But mark my words, I will do everything I can to find out what is going on with you, because I do love you. You’re like my sister and I don’t want to see you hurting.” She turns and walks back to the others, not giving you a chance to respond.
The rest of the afternoon is dulled by what happened. Mira and Zoey can tell something went on between you and Rumi, but they kindly don’t pry right now. You collect shells for the rest of the afternoon until Zoey tells you that they’re ready to leave. You pack up your things in your beach bag and sit in the front seat of the jeep, avoiding Rumi. You understood her concern, really you did, and you feel so guilty for going off on her like that, but you have a plan. ‘Tonight… I have to go tonight.’ You look out at the scenery as you drive, planning how to come back later that night.
As soon as Mira parks the jeep, you jump out and head for the inn, going straight to your room. You take a quick shower and change into some comfy clothes. ‘I have to wait until the girls go to bed.’ You move over to the window and catch a glimpse of yourself in the mirror. As you stare at yourself, you replay what you said to Rumi this afternoon and you wince. You turn and rub your hand down your face. You can’t leave your relationship like this, not when you’re about to walk into the unknown.
So, with a twinge of worry you head down the hall to Rumi’s room, knocking softly. “…Rumi?” You shift nervously, worry slowly entering your thoughts. What if she doesn’t want to talk to you? What if she doesn’t even want to see you? Just as you’re about to forget it and go back to your room the door cracks open.
Rumi stands in the doorway with her favorite purple hoodie on, along with her favorite pajama pants. Teddy bears and choo choo trains. Your lips quirk at her clothing before you meet her eyes, guilt hitting you full force when you see her eyes are red. “Rumi I- I’m sorry…” You whisper, looking away and trying to hold in your own tears.
“I’m sorry for w-what I said. For pushing you away… I.. was rude and you were only trying to help. I’m so sorry.” You fiddle with your fingers to stop your hands from shaking; you hate making people cry. You hear a shuffle of clothing before Rumi pulls you into a hug. You immediately hug her back, sniffling into her shoulder. “…I’m sorry.”
“I know.” She whispers back, hugging you tighter. “I’m sorry too.” She pulls back and gently pulls you into her room, closing the door and sitting down on her bed. “I shouldn’t have pushed you so hard after you said no.. I was just worried.” You sniffle and both of your eyes meet. Rumi gives you a small grin and pats her bed. “Come on. Don’t just stand there awkwardly.”
You shuffle over and sit next to her, resting your head on her shoulder. “I really am sorry Rumi. I shouldn’t have yelled at you like, no matter the situation.” She chuckles softly squeezing your shoulder. “You’re so nice. I deserved that to be honest. I shouldn’t have pushed you once I saw how uncomfortable I was making. That’s on me and I’m sorry too. Forgiven?” She offers you her pinkie with a smile. “Always.” You link your pinkie with hers. It’s silent between you both for a while, but it’s a comfortable silence. You eventually move, standing to look at her. “I’m getting pretty tired, so I think I’ll go turn in.” You head to the front door, waving back at her. “Night Rumi.”
You slip into the hallway and close her door. Relief rushes through you, your shoulders slumping. No matter what happens tonight, you’re glad you made up with her. You head back to your room, changing your clothes into something better for traveling at night. You slip on a black t-shirt with a jacket over it and a pair of jeans. “Good enough.” You mumble while grabbing your beach bag, throwing your phone, keys, and a bottle of water in it.
You write a quick note, explaining where you’re going so the girls will know if you don’t come back. You pause writing it. Do you really expect to die? An unease blooms in your chest as it sinks in. You might not come back. Taking a shaky breath, you tap your forehead. “No… No, I have to go. I’ll regret it if I don’t.” The feeling in your chest has only grown over the past few hours. “Let’s go.” With one last look at the room, you listen at the door for anyone in the hallway. Not hearing anyone is you sign to quietly exit your room and lock the door.
You creep down the stairs to the front door, your hand just grabs the nob when a voice calls behind you. “I know where you’re going.” You flinch, your hand freezing on the knob. You turn your head and see the innkeeper. She’s still in her work clothes and she gives you a sad smile. “Come here. I think there is something you should know before you go.” She waves you over to the bar and she already has a glass of your favorite drink on the bar. “You’re going out to the cove, right?” You nod, looking down at the drink. “Yeah.” She hums and wipes the bar down. “I’m not going to stop you and if your heart is truly leading you there, you need to go, but I need to tell you what’s likely going to happen.”
“They’re sirens. Tempters of the sea. You experienced it the other night, their magical voice capable of leading humans to drown.” She leans on the counter and makes you look her in the eyes. “I’ve lived here my whole life, kid. I know what sirens sound like. I’ve heard every version of their song and I’m still alive…” She taps her ear. “I’m half deaf. I can hear, but not nearly as well as normal folk, so I don’t hear the full power of siren songs. But the other night… The other night when you went to the beach, I didn’t hear a song.”
With a grunt she shoves off the bar and moves to sit next to you. “Sirens have many different songs. Love, lust, hate, anger, sadness, grief. Just about anything you can think of, but there is one song no one hears. Except one person. The mating song. It’s only audible to the mate of the siren or sirens and that’s what you heard the other night. The only reason why they didn’t tear you apart the instant you were in the water.”
She sighs, rubbing her forehead. “Listen kid. I’m not saying any of this to stop you, just to explain why everything is happening to you. It’s happened once before, but that’s another story. I’m just saying. If you go out there, you’re not coming back. Sirens are territorial and possessive, once they have you, they won’t let you.”
You stare at the half-empty drink in your hand; you mind running a mile a minute. ‘Mate? That’s why… why they want you so bad? But the girls…’ You groan, resting your head on your arms. The tugging in your chest pulls tight, wanting you to go to go find the sirens. “I’ll tell your friends.” “Huh?” You look up confused, not having heard what she said. “I’ll tell your friends what’s happened tonight, if you go. I think one of them will understand more than the others.” Your brows furrow, what does that mean?
The innkeeper chuckles, shaking her head. “You think too much. What do you want? Do you want to go? Do you want to stay? What’s holding you back? Guilt? Fear?” You shake your head. “No. No, I’m not scared. I…” ‘I feel guilty, leaving the girls.’ You gulp, downing the drink. “I’m going.” The innkeeper nods, taking your empty glass. “Good. You need to.” She watches you head to the door, picking your bag up. “Oh! Wait, one more thing-“ She tries to stop you, but you’re already out the door. “….sirens eat humans.” Her voice trails off, but she doesn’t chase after you. You’ll find out soon enough.
You toss you back into the passenger side of the jeep, turning it on. ‘This is it. I’m going to get my answers… I only hope they’re worth it.’ You pull out of the parking lot and drive down the road, turning some music on. You hum softly to the music on the radio, watching the landscape move by. Everything looks so different in the dark. You eventually turn into the parking lot of the cove, turning the jeep off. You take a deep breath, pressing a hand to your chest when you feel your heart start to race. “I can do this.” You grab your bag and slowly walk down to the beach, heading for the cave you saw the siren in earlier.
You stop right before the entrance, fear and anticipation tingling up your spine. You pull out your phone and turn the flashlight on, taking a deep breath and heading in. You shuffle slowly through the cave, peeking at the small pool you met the siren before, glancing around when you don’t see him. You continue to the other end of cave, flinching when you hear someone yell. Afraid someone could be hurt you rush out of the cave and see a fisherman in the water. Your body locks up in fear as you realize what exactly you’re seeing.
Several dark shapes swim in the water and you see one of the sirens, siting on a rock, singing softly to the fisherman and watching with sadistic delight as he slips over the edge of the boat. The others are on him in an instant, tearing, eating and oh the blood. You gag, turning and emptying your stomach on the sand. You breath heavily as you rush back to the cave. No, no this is not what you expected and if you weren’t scared before, you are now. You don’t acknowledge the voice calling after you, you just run. Sobs leave you as you stumble, your mind trying to process what you saw.
You gag again and fall into the sand just outside the cave. “No, no no no…” You sob, these creatures who are supposed to be your mates eat people. You scream into your hands, your breathing slowly getting more and more erratic. “Shh, shh, baby… Sweet girl, please.” You barely cast a glance at the siren looking at you with wide eyes. He’s different from the one you talked with. “Please… let us explain?” You shake your head. What is there to explain? “Darling…” There he is, the one you spoke with before. “You don’t understand, we need to make you understand.” You don’t have a chance to say anything before he starts singing.
‘Lay down
Your sweet and wear head
Night is falling
You’ve come to journey’s end
Sleep now
And dream of the ones who came before,’
You shiver, feeling everything fade away. Your fear, your anger, you disgust, it all melts away and you start walking towards them. Another siren starts singing, his purple hair hanging in his face.
‘They are calling
From across the distant shore
Why do you weep?
All of these tears upon your face
Soon you will see
All of your fears will pass away
Safe in my arms
You’re only dreaming....’
A shiver goes through your body, and you realize you’re in the ocean and the siren are surrounding you, purring and chirping softly. They almost look… happy? “My sweet…” It’s that one siren again. “Please let us explain. We never wanted you to see us like that… doing that.” He gently reaches out and brushes your hair from your face. “We love you.” He purrs, gently bumping his forehead on yours. “I’m Romance.” He whispers, his name wrapping around you like a song. “…I’m Mystery.” The one with purple hair says, he doesn’t directly touch you, but you can feel the longing radiating from him.
The one with teal hair swims up to your face and nips at your nose before licking it with his forked tongue. “I’m Baby… you smell sweet.” He hums, inhaling your scent. You flinch back from his teeth, the fear slowly creeping back in now that they’re not singing. The large siren pushes him away, his redish/pink hair falling in waves down his shoulders. “Ignore him, he’s an ass.” He smiles at you, making sure to keep his teeth hidden. “I’m Abby.” He wraps you in a hug and you can feel the slight purr vibrating through him before he pulls back.
The black-haired siren waits until the others have shifted away before he approaches. You shy away from him, feeling intimidated by the look on his face. He looks… intense. He pauses, seeing you hesitation, the look on his face melting into uncertainty. “I… I’m Jinu. I’m not going to hurt you… We… We’re not going to hurt you.” He swims closer, brushing his webbed fingers against your cheek. “You are our pod’s mate. We’ve been waiting so long, oh so long. And now you’re here.” He can’t help himself as he nuzzles into your neck.
You tense feeling his teeth lightly scrape your skin. “B-but the fisherman… y-you.. you killed him…” Your voice wavers, slight fear and uncertainty. You’re worried, what if they’re lying and they make you their next meal. “We did…” Mystery mumbles, his fingers twitching, itching to touch you. “…but you’re here now. So, we won’t need to feed as often.” “W-what?” You stutter out, confused. “We siren pods find their mates or mate, a sort of connection forms. It soothes the part in us the longs for blood, for death. We feed off the connection for long periods of time before we ever need to feed on actually food again.”
“B-but you still need to eat…?” Your head is spinning with so much information, it’s hard to think straight. “Yes, about four times a year.” Four times a year. You nearly gag again. That’s four times humans are going to die. “C-can’t you eat anything else? Does it h-have to be…” You don’t finish; you can’t. You feel ill enough already. “We have tried fish and other things, but they do not satisfy as human flesh does.” You don’t notice Romance and Jinu casting glances at each other, not until it’s too late.
You hear Romance’s voice singing softly in your ear, dragging you into a sense of comfort and trust. You don’t protest as they move you, nor when Baby presses his lips to yours, granting you the temporary ability to breathe under water, just long enough for them to bring you to their underwater cave.
They all dive, keeping you between them safe and secure. Your mind is foggy, and you can’t focus, the last thing you clearly remember hearing is a soft voice whispering in your ear. “Don’t worry, Lovely. You’ll love it here.” You will love it there, with them. You’re so silly for wanting to go back and live with those pesky humans. After all, you are their mate. Why wouldn’t you want to live with them?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The sun is bright, the warm rays shining down on the white beach. The cool water laps at the shore, sending small sprays of water into the air. You hold your sun hat down against a gust of warm wind, squinting further down the beach at your friends. Zoey is shooting Mira with a water gun, laughing and squealing when Mira chases after her. Rumi is lounging in a sun chair, her sunglasses on as she sunbathes.
It was Zoey’s idea to take a vacation. Work was getting stressful for the girls, as idols, their work schedules were running them down and as member of their PR team, you were just as overworked as they are. So, Zoey searched for the perfect spot to take a vacation, and she settled on a quaint little fishing village. Mira was against the idea at first, but once Rumi agreed she gave in and dragged you with them, saying if she had to go so did you.
It’s a quaint village with a population of about 100 people. You’re staying in the town’s inn, 'Serra’s Tail’, which gives you a wonderful view of the beach. You’re shaken from your thoughts by Zoey yelling at you. “___! Come on! Mira’s about to go diving!” You smile at her enthusiasm and jog over, taking your sun hat off and setting it by Rumi’s stuff. “Diving, huh?” “Yep!” Zoey grins, practically vibrating. “Annnd if it goes well, we all can go diving!” You look over at Rumi, confusion flickering in your eyes. Rumi just shrugs, rubbing her arm over her tattoos. “Some older woman at the inn told Zoey one of us could go diving and if it went smoothly, we all could. She didn’t say why though.”
With a shrug you turn back to Mira who is currently suited up in a diving suit. “Finally, this trip is going to interesting.” She smirks at Zoey. “Maybe something cool will happen.” “NO! You have to behave! I reallllly want to go diving!” The pout on Zoey’s lips and the look in her eyes is enough to sway even Mira. “Alright, alright. You don't need to get all sappy on me.” You shake your head at their antics, a smile on your face. “Be careful down there Mira.”
You all watch as Mira and the instructor disappear under the water. Zoey bounces around the beach, making sandcastles, chatting up with Rumi and making sand angels. You giggle at her excitement, sitting down on the edge of the beach, letting the water lap at your feet. You look down at your hands and then back out at the water, something is strange here. You don’t know what exactly, but ever since you’ve arrived here there has been a twinge of something in your chest. It’s too faint to know what the feeling is, but it’s there. The longer you stare at the water the more you feel compelled to walk into it.
“Hey! Earth to ___!” You jump, flinching back as Zoey’s hand waves in your face. “Huh? Zoey?” You look up at her in confusion. “About time. I thought maybe you fell asleep, I’ve been calling your name for like five minutes.” “Oh..” You smile at her sheepishly, rubbing your arm. “Sorry, Zoey. Guess I got lost in thought.” She giggles and shakes her head, reaching over to grab your hand. “No biggie! But Mira’s back! It all went fine, so come on! We’re going diving!”
You let her pull you over to the others, taking one last glance at the ocean. “Alright, we’re good now!” You bring your attention to the instructor, who’s holding three air tanks. “Alright, I’m going to teach you all how to strap these on, to check your oxygen levels, and what to do if you get stuck…” You listen as the instructor explains everything you’ll need to know while diving. “Now, that’s not everything of course. But it should be enough for your guy’s little dive here. The area you’ll be swimming in is enclosed with an orange net we set up, so you won’t have to worry about swimming too far. The water is clear, and the weather is calm. Good luck!”
The instructor helps you all into your gear and then sees you off, directing you into the water before moving to sit back up on a chair, to wait for you guys to return. As soon as you’re submerged you have to steady yourself on Rumi’s shoulder, giving her a thumbs up when she looks at you in concern. Gently swimming through the clear water is calming. You watch small fish dart by, the seaweed sway in the current. It’s a beautiful world under the sea, so different from the busy life you live with the girls. You swim around a piece of rock and come face to face with a funny-looking fish. You turn to motion the girls over only to notice they’re nowhere to be seen. A jolt of panic goes up your spine and you swim forward looking for them.
You’re so busy looking for them, you don’t notice when you swim right past a pair of slitted, glowing eyes. Nor do you notice the clawed, webbed hand that reaches for you and just misses your leg. You freeze when a shiver goes down your spine and you spin as fast as you can, glancing around for what could make you feel so uneasy.
Seeing nothing you dart back towards the shore, the distinct feeling of someone watching you creeping up your spine. When you break through the surface of the water you see the girls on the beach, looking concerned. You drag yourself up the shore and they rush over to you, helping you get out of the diving suit. “___, are you okay?!” “You disappeared!” “Where did you go?” Three concerned girls stare down at you as you shiver slightly. “I’m f-fine…” Your teeth chatter lightly. Why are you suddenly so cold? “I m-must have drifted further from you guys than I thought…”
Rumi looks you over, something flashing in her eyes, but it’s gone before you can see what it is. “Thank goodness you’re okay!” Zoey gives you a squeeze before stepping back to let the instructor look you and the equipment you’re wearing over. “Everything looks fine… You need to be more careful when underwater. The currents have no mercy, and they will drag you to a watery grave. It happens too much around here.”
“It won’t happen to us!” Zoey says, gripping your arm tightly. “We won’t let her out of our sight!” You sigh, glancing back at the water, the prickling feeling of being watched is gone, but you know something was watching you. “Alright, let’s go back to the inn.” Mira cut through the thoughts in your head. She and Rumi share a glance before packing up their stuff and walking back up the path to the inn, Zoey talking your ear off the whole time.
By the time you make it back to the inn, the sun is just dipping below the horizon, casting a beautiful orange glow. “Mm, it’s dinner time! I can smell the food from here!” Zoey tugs Rumi along after her as she jogs towards the inn. Mira rolls her eyes, but she has a small smile on her face as she jogs to catch up. You hang back, thinking back to the swim you took earlier. There had to be something watching you, you can remember the distinct feeling of something staring at your back. You shiver, casting a glance over your shoulder before jogging to inn.
You don’t feel very hungry as you enter the dining room, watching all three girls eating to their hearts content. You still have a nagging feeling of unease, or maybe it’s anticipation? You can't really tell, but you do know that you want to be alone so you can try and sort all of these feelings out. “Hey guys, I’m not very hungry right now. I’m just going to go to my room, okay? I’ll see you all later.” “Mmph- Night!” Zoey says through a mouthful of food. Rumi waves at you through a mouthful of fries and Mira nods, though she does look a bit worried.
You ascend the steps quickly, heading straight for your room. With a heavy sigh you slip in and shut the door behind you. Resting your head on the door you blink up at the ceiling, feeling something in your chest stirring. It was an odd feeling, almost like longing and every time you look out at the ocean it gets stronger. “I must be really tired from the trip.” You sigh while rubbing your eyes. Taking a deep breath, you grab a hoodie and a pair of sweatpants from your luggage, slipping them on and moving over to the window.
You open the window, allowing the cool evening air in as you sit on the windowsill. Everything is gorgeous, the weather, the view, the ocean. You rest your head on the side of the window and stare out at the calm water. ‘This is so weird… why... why do I feel something’s missing? Like the ocean is… calling me home.’ You sit there for hours, thinking and trying to figure out why everything in you is compelling you to go to the beach and just… walk into the ocean.
You sit there for several hours; the sun has long since set and the moon rises to take its place. You sigh, shifting with a stretch and moving to head to bed when you see it. Your gaze snaps to the distant ocean, you would swear up and down you saw something move. You stare for several long minutes, and you gasp, something jumps in the water. You don’t even realize you’re moving until your bare feet touch the sand of the beach and you jolt, glancing back up at the inn. Taking a quick look wouldn’t hurt… right? With a shaky sigh you walk forward. “H-hello?” You call out, looking around for anyone who might have been in the water.
A shiver goes down your spine and you feel the distinct sensation of being watched again, just like earlier. You whirl around to find nothing. Your mouth goes dry, your palms sweaty. Something is wrong, but why does it feel so right? Why does your heart skip like this is where you’re supposed to be? ‘T-this is a terrible idea, ___! You should go back!’ You try not to think about how you walked to the beach without even being aware, that would only cause you to panic more if you focused on it. You shiver again and bolt, running as fast as you can towards the path back up to the inn, this was a mistake. You suddenly freeze when a melody reaches your ears.
‘Home is behind
The world ahead
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadow
To the edge of night
Until the stars are all alight
Mist and shadow
Cloud and shade.’
Your eyes glaze over, and you turn back to the beach, the enchanting song curling around you like a warm hug. You walk towards the water; your only thoughts are to find the person singing such a beautiful song.
‘All shall fade
All, shall fade.’
You wade into the water up to your waist and then you feel it. Soft touches on your legs, cold, webbed hands gently touch your hands, your arms. The further you get, the more you don’t want to leave.
“___!” You jolt at the sound of your name, the touches disappear, and you find that you’re cold. You shiver violently and quickly exit the water. Zoey, Mira, and Rumi are on the beach staring at you like you’re crazy. “What the hell are you doing?” Mira hisses, snatching your wrist when you’re within reach. “Gosh, you’re freezing.” Zoey cuddles up to your back. “___.... What are you doing out here?” She asks quietly, worry lacing her tone.
You cast a glance back at the ocean and you feel a tug in your chest, like something is pulling you towards it. You shiver again and ignore it. “I c-couldn’t sleep a-and came out for a walk…” You lie through your chattering teeth. No way you’re telling them you came down here in a trance. At least you think it was a trance. “And you end up in the ocean?” Mira snaps, but you know she’s just concerned, especially with the way she tugs you closer to her.
“I’m s-sorry…” Rumi watches you for a moment before her eyes flicker to the ocean, something flashing through them before she turns away. “I think that’s enough excitement for tonight. Let’s get back to the inn, we can talk more tomorrow. I’m sure ___ is tired.” Mira huffs, wanting to argue with Rumi, but the way you shiver in her arms has her biting her tongue.
“Alright.” She loosens her grip enough for Zoey to pull into her side and start walking you back towards the inn. Mira stays behind with Rumi, waiting until you and Zoey are far enough away before speaking. “…Do you think?” Rumi takes another glance at the ocean. “I don’t know.” She says nothing else and moves to catch up with you and Zoey.
Zoey has you in the common area in front of the fire, several blankets wrapped around you. “Are you any warmer?” She asks, sitting down next to you and scooting closer to cuddle. You nod with shaky exhale; the shivers are starting to fade. “Y-yeah. Thanks Zoey.” You turn to Mira and Rumi as they walk in, but Mira just heads straight up to her room. “…I think she’s m-mad at me.” You whisper, pulling the blanket closer. “She’s just concerned.” Rumi says, stepping into the common area with a cup of hot chocolate. “Here, this will help you warm up.” She sets the cup down on the table in front of you.
You gently reach out and sip the drink, letting out a happy hum. “Delicious. Thanks Rumi.” She smiles at you and sits on your other side. “Are you sure you’re okay?” She asks one more time, gently leaning a bit closer to you. You nod, taking another sip of the drink. “Yes… I’m sure.” You three sit in silence for a long while.
Your mind racing over everything that has happened in the last hour. You were entranced when you went down to the beach. You don’t even remember walking there, but that’s not what frightens you most. No… you actually want to go back out there. You want to wade into the waters and let whatever creature has that heavenly voice take you.
That’s what scares you, because you don’t know what it is. It could want to kill you for all you know. But then why does it feel so right? You vaguely remember hands touching you in the water, why weren’t you scared of them? With a soft sigh you get up, gently setting the cup down. “Thank you, guys for all this, but I’m really tired, so I’m going to turn in.”
“Goodnight.” Zoey smiles after you, and Rumi mumbles a quiet ‘sleep well’ as she herself starts dozing onto the arm of the couch. You make your way up to your room, immediately locking the window and pulling the curtains down. “I don’t know what’s happening… But I’m scared, yet not. Why does my heart tell me going out there is right?” You groan and flop onto the bed, covering your face. “Ew… I need to change.” You quickly grab new clothes, take a quick shower and settle in for the night, praying nothing else weird would happen in the next few days.
The next morning comes far too quickly and the sun peeking through a gap in the curtains causes you to whine in annoyance and bury your face further into your pillows. You just start to doze back off when a loud knock echoes through the room. “___! You better be getting up! I have plans today!!” Zoey squeals way too loudly for this early in the morning. “…Five more minutes…” You grumble back at her. “GIRL! It’s like 10:30! Get upppp, we’re already running late!” She goes silent for a few minutes before speaking again, jerking you back awake. “I’ll be back in five minutes, and you better be up!”
You hear her footsteps disappear down the hall and you grunt, weakly punching your pillow in frustration. You’re still tired! Sighing, you slip out of bed and wobble over to the dresser… you don’t even know where you’re going or what to wear. You grab a one-piece swimsuit and a shawl, whatever Zoey has planned, you can bet it involves the beach. You change and slip the shawl on, tying it with a ribbon you have. “Pretty nice.” You look down at your outfit and nod, grabbing some sunscreen, and heading out the door.
When you reach the lobby, you see all three girls in their own swimsuits. “Hey guys.” You smile and wave as you approach them. “Finallyyyyy. I thought you’d never wake up.” You roll your eyes a Zoey’s antics. “Well, I’m up now. Where are we going?” “Okay okay- Soooo, I was looking at a map of the village yesterday and I found this!” She pulls up a map on her phone and points to a cove not far from the village. “See! I asked the innkeeper about it, and she said it was safe this time of year.”
“Yes… but don’t be caught there after dark.” You all turn to see the elderly innkeeper walking down the stairs. “You young folks aren’t from here and you don’t know out stories. Creatures lurk in the waters around here, especially that cove. Many a fisherman has gone missing there, so be wary. Don’t go in the water and never go there after dark, do you understand?” You all stand by the entrance, shivers going down all your spines. “Y-yes, ma’am!” You mumble out, your mind going to last night. You look up and the innkeeper is staring right at you. “Good. Now go enjoy yourselves!”
“I feel like I can’t enjoy myself now.” Zoey grumbles, another shiver going down her spine. “Ugh, why did she have to be so creepy?!” Mira scoffs, adjusting her hat and sunglasses. “She said it was a story, Zoey. That doesn’t mean it’s true. Let’s just go and enjoy our day, yeah?” Zoey pouts but still heads for the jeep outside. “Okay fiiiiine- But if anything scary jumps out I’m hiding behind you!”
You chuckle at her antics, but your mind is occupied elsewhere. If there really is some sort of creature... why would it want you? Rumi watches you climb into the jeep behind Mira, she knows something is going on with you, but she can’t quite place it. She could make a calculated guess, but she really doesn’t want it to be true. She shakes her head of the thoughts, this is supposed to be a fun day and she’s not going to ruin it.
The cove is about thirty minutes from the village, and you have to admit, the sight is gorgeous. The water is bright blue, the sand white and undisturbed, shells scattered on the shore. “Wow…Zoey you really know how to pick good places. It’s beautiful.” Mira drives the jeep to the designated parking space and turns it off. “Whose ready for another beach day?” “I AM!” Zoey yells, jumping out of the jeep and bolting for the beach. “Hey! Wait for us!” Rumi quickly climbs out and follows her, followed by Mira who is scoffing and shaking her head, but you can see her smile. You grab your sunscreen and beach bag, walking down the slope to the beach, taking time to appreciate the scenery.
By the time you set up a little spot to sit, Zoey is having a water fight with Mira and Rumi. You laugh, slipping your shawl off to apply sunscreen to your arms and legs. “Hey girls, come put some sunscreen on before you all burn to crisps!” In a rush of laughter and water, they all jog over to you and each of them applies sunscreen. “Oo! Look, a cave.” Zoey giggles and grabs Mira’s wrist. “Come on, let’s go look!” You shrug, taking Rumi’s hand and following them. “Why not? Let’s have some fun.”
As you all step into the cave, you can see light at the other end. “Oh, it must lead to another part of the cove.” Zoey breaks into a sprint, Mira stumbling and yelling at her to slow down. You and Rumi laugh as you follow them. This side of the cove is somehow even more beautiful than the other. The sun shines down on hundreds of shells, shining off them to create a kaleidoscope of colors on the side of the cliff. “Wow….” You stare at the colors bouncing off the shells and bend down to pick one up. “These are gorgeous. You think I’d get in trouble for taking some to make us necklaces with them?” “Nah, I doubt they’ll miss a few.” Mira shakes her head, picking up one herself. “They are really pretty, huh.”
You move to slip the shells into your beach bag only to curse softly. “Damn, I left my bag on the other side of the cove. I’ll be right back guys, just gotta go grab it quick.” You jog back into the cave and dash to the other end, panting as you pick up your bag. “Okay yeah… definitely walking through this time… dang…” You press a hand to your side as it aches, not used to running so far. You shuffle through your bag as you walk so don’t notice the cool breeze in the cave, not until you hear a soft voice whisper to you. “Sweet thing… why don’t you come here? To us?”
You freeze, your bag dropping to the ground as you slowly turn to see who said that. Your eyes widen when you see a man…? Fish..? You don’t even know. He blinks up at you, leaning on his arms as he pulls himself out of a small pool to get closer to you. His long pink hair spills over his shoulders, complimenting his teal-colored tail. You can’t deny he’s attractive, but there is something unsettling about how he’s looking at you. He coos softly and holds out a webbed hand. “Come darling, take my hand. We’ll take you home.” His tail twitches and he moves his head to catch your eyes. “We won’t hurt you.”
You step back, staring at him in fear… or is it? Your traitorous heart skips a beat, and you feel that infernal tug again, like something is pulling you towards this... fishman. “W-we…?” You choke out, trying to make sense of this. He grins, showing off his rows of sharp teeth. “Yes, we. Did you think I was the only one who wants you?” You tilt your head in confusion. “I w-wouldn’t know... I’ve never met you before…” He pulls himself a little closer to you. “Ah… but we have. Last night? I sang for you my sweet. And you were so pretty, coming to us to willingly… until those pesky humans got in the way… But that’s behind us. I have you now, we’ll keep you safe and warm.” He purrs and he starts to hum.
You gulp, torn between logic and whatever the hell your heart wants you to do. “I c-can’t… they…” You glance towards the girls, their laughter echoing through the cave. “I d-don’t… No...” You shake your head, fear starting to creep up your spine as you watch his eyes darken. “My dear, I don’t want to use force… But I will, oh I will if that’s what it takes.” He opens his mouth, the first few notes of a hypnotic song echoing in your ears before Rumi yells your name. His head snaps in her direction, and he snarls, teeth bared as he slips back into the water, but not before staring into your soul with his golden eyes. “We will have you, sweet thing. In time, you will be ours.”
You shudder, stumbling back and picking up your bag just as Rumi reaches you. “Hey, what’s taking you so- Are you okay?” She cuts herself off and grabs your shoulders, looking at your pale face and the hint of fear in your eyes. “What’s wrong? What happened?” Your mind is racing a mile a minute. “I’m f-fine I just…” You don’t want to tell her; you need to sort this out yourself. This feeling of want. Why would you want to go with him? You need answers and you have to figure them out yourself. You can’t bear the thought of any of the girls getting hurt because of you. So, with a deep breath you look Rumi in the eyes. “I’m fine, Rumi.” She scoffs, glaring at you. “No, you’re not. Look at you, you’re shaken up, pale, and afraid. What happened?”
She presses and presses until you snap. “I’m fine! Leave me the hell alone, okay?!” You immediately feel guilty for yelling at her, but you want her to get the point. You don’t want her involved. Her face goes blank, and she pulls back. “Fine. Fine, keep your secrets. I know something is going on. Something happened last night and now this. I worry about you, we all do. But if you don’t want to let us in then… So be it. But mark my words, I will do everything I can to find out what is going on with you, because I do love you. You’re like my sister and I don’t want to see you hurting.” She turns and walks back to the others, not giving you a chance to respond.
The rest of the afternoon is dulled by what happened. Mira and Zoey can tell something went on between you and Rumi, but they kindly don’t pry right now. You collect shells for the rest of the afternoon until Zoey tells you that they’re ready to leave. You pack up your things in your beach bag and sit in the front seat of the jeep, avoiding Rumi. You understood her concern, really you do, and you feel so guilty for going off on her like that, but you have a plan. ‘Tonight… I have to go tonight.’ You look out at the scenery as you drive, planning how to come back later that night.
As soon as Mira parks the jeep, you jump out and head for the inn, going straight to your room. You take a quick shower and change into some comfy clothes. ‘I have to wait until the girls go to bed.’ You move over to the window and catch a glimpse of yourself in the mirror. As you stare at yourself, you replay what you said to Rumi earlier in the afternoon and you wince. You turn and rub your hand down your face. You can’t leave your relationship like this, not when you’re about to walk into the unknown.
So, with a twinge of worry you head down the hall to Rumi’s room, knocking softly. “…Rumi?” You shift nervously, worry slowly entering your thoughts. What if she doesn’t want to talk to you? What if she doesn’t even want to see you? Just as you’re about to forget it and go back to your room the door cracks open.
Rumi stands in the doorway with her favorite purple hoodie on, along with her favorite pajama pants. Teddy bears and choo choo trains. Your lips quirk at her clothing before you meet her eyes, guilt hitting you full force when you see her eyes are red. “Rumi I- I’m sorry…” You whisper, looking away and trying to hold in your own tears.
“I’m sorry for w-what I said. For pushing you away… I.. was rude and you were only trying to help. I’m so sorry.” You fiddle with your fingers to stop your hands from shaking; you hate making people cry. You hear a shuffle of clothing before Rumi pulls you into a hug. You immediately hug her back, sniffling into her shoulder. “…I’m sorry.”
“I know.” She whispers back, hugging you tighter. “I’m sorry too.” She pulls back and gently pulls you into her room, closing the door and sitting down on her bed. “I shouldn’t have pushed you so hard after you said no.. I was just worried.” You sniffle and both of your eyes meet. Rumi gives you a small grin and pats her bed. “Come on. Don’t just stand there awkwardly.”
You shuffle over and sit next to her, resting your head on her shoulder. “I really am sorry Rumi. I shouldn’t have yelled at you like that, no matter the situation.” She chuckles softly squeezing your shoulder. “You’re so nice. I deserved that to be honest. I shouldn’t have pushed you once I saw how uncomfortable I was making you. That’s on me and I’m sorry too. Forgiven?” She offers you her pinkie with a smile. “Always.” You link your pinkie with hers. It’s silent between you both for a while, but it’s a comfortable silence. You eventually move, standing to look at her. “I’m getting pretty tired, so I think I’ll go turn in.” You head to the front door, waving back at her. “Night Rumi.”
You slip into the hallway and close her door. Relief rushes through you, your shoulders slumping. No matter what happens tonight, you’re glad you made up with her. You head back to your room, changing your clothes into something better for traveling at night. You slip on a black t-shirt with a jacket and a pair of jeans. “Good enough.” You mumble while grabbing your beach bag, throwing your phone, keys, and a bottle of water in it.
You write a quick note, explaining where you’re going so the girls will know if you don’t come back. You pause writing it. Do you really expect to die? An unease blooms in your chest as it sinks in. You might not come back. Taking a shaky breath, you tap your forehead. “No… No, I have to go. I’ll regret it if I don’t.” The feeling in your chest has only grown over the past few hours. “Let’s go.” With one last look at the room, you listen at the door for anyone in the hallway. Not hearing anyone is your sign to quietly exit your room and lock the door.
You creep down the stairs to the front door, your hand just grabs the nob when a voice calls behind you. “I know where you’re going.” You flinch, your hand freezing on the knob. You turn your head and see the innkeeper. She’s still in her work clothes and she gives you a sad smile. “Come here. I think there is something you should know before you go.” She waves you over to the bar where she already has a glass of your favorite drink on the bar. “You’re going out to the cove, right?” You nod, looking down at the drink. “Yeah.” She hums and wipes the bar down. “I’m not going to stop you and if your heart is truly leading you there, you need to go, but I need to tell you what’s likely going to happen.”
“They’re sirens. Tempters of the sea. You experienced it the other night, their magical voice capable of leading humans to drown.” She leans on the counter and makes you look her in the eyes. “I’ve lived here my whole life, kid. I know what sirens sound like. I’ve heard every version of their song and I’m still alive…” She taps her ear. “I’m half deaf. I can hear, but not nearly as well as normal folk, so I don’t hear the full power of siren songs. But the other night… The other night when you went to the beach, I didn’t hear a song.”
With a grunt she shoves off the bar and moves to sit next to you. “Sirens have many different songs. Love, lust, hate, anger, sadness, grief. Just about anything you can think of, but there is one song no one hears. Except one person. The mating song. It’s only audible to the mate of the siren or sirens and that’s what you heard the other night. The only reason why they didn’t tear you apart the instant you were in the water.”
She sighs, rubbing her forehead. “Listen kid. I’m not saying any of this to stop you, just to explain why everything is happening to you. It’s happened once before, but that’s another story. I’m just saying. If you go out there, you’re not coming back. Sirens are territorial and possessive, once they have you, they won’t let you.”
You stare at the half-empty drink in your hand; you mind running a mile a minute. ‘Mate? That’s why… why they want me so bad? But the girls…’ You groan, resting your head on your arms. The tugging in your chest pulls tight, wanting you to go to go find the sirens. “I’ll tell your friends.” “Huh?” You look up confused, not having heard what she said. “I’ll tell your friends what’s happened tonight, if you go. I think one of them will understand more than the others.” Your brows furrow, what does that mean?
The innkeeper chuckles, shaking her head. “You think too much. What do you want? Do you want to go? Do you want to stay? What’s holding you back? Guilt? Fear?” You shake your head. “No. No, I’m not scared. I…” ‘I feel guilty, leaving the girls.’ You gulp, downing the drink. “I’m going.” The innkeeper nods, taking your empty glass. “Good. You need to.” She watches you head to the door, picking your bag up. “Oh! Wait, one more thing-“ She tries to stop you, but you’re already out the door. “….sirens eat humans.” Her voice trails off, but she doesn’t chase after you. You’ll find out soon enough.
You toss your bag into the passenger side of the jeep, turning it on. ‘This is it. I’m going to get my answers… I only hope they’re worth it.’ You pull out of the parking lot and drive down the road, turning some music on. You hum softly to the music on the radio, watching the landscape move by. Everything looks so different in the dark. You eventually turn into the parking lot of the cove, turning the jeep off. You take a deep breath, pressing a hand to your chest when you feel your heart start to race. “I can do this.” You grab your bag and slowly walk down to the beach, heading for the cave you saw the siren in earlier.
You stop right before the entrance, fear and anticipation tingling up your spine. You pull out your phone and turn the flashlight on, taking a deep breath and heading in. You shuffle slowly through the cave, peeking at the small pool you met the siren before, glancing around when you don’t see him. You continue to the other end of cave, flinching when you hear someone yell. Afraid someone could be hurt you rush out of the cave and see a fisherman in the water. Your body locks up in fear as you realize what exactly you’re seeing.
Several dark shapes swim in the water and you see one of the sirens siting on a rock, singing softly to the fisherman and watching with sadistic delight as he slips over the edge of the boat. The others are on him in an instant, tearing, eating and oh gosh the blood. You gag, turning and emptying your stomach onto the beach. You breath heavily as you rush back to the cave. No, no this is not what you expected and if you weren’t scared before, you are now. You don’t acknowledge the voice calling after you, you just run. Sobs leave you as you stumble, your mind trying to process what you saw.
You gag again and fall into the sand just outside the cave. “No, no no no…” You sob, these creatures who are supposed to be your mates eat people. You scream into your hands, your breathing slowly getting more and more erratic. “Shh, shh, baby… Sweet girl, please.” You barely cast a glance at the siren looking at you with wide eyes. He’s different from the one you talked with. “Please… let us explain?” You shake your head. What is there to explain? “Darling…” There he is, the one you spoke with before. “You don’t understand, we need to make you understand.” You don’t have a chance to say anything before he starts singing.
‘Lay down
Your sweet and wear head
Night is falling
You’ve come to journey’s end
Sleep now
And dream of the ones who came before,’
You shiver, feeling everything fade away. Your fear, your anger, your disgust, it all melts away and you start walking towards them. Another siren starts singing, his purple hair hanging in his face.
‘They are calling
From across the distant shore
Why do you weep?
All of these tears upon your face
Soon you will see
All of your fears will pass away
Safe in my arms
You’re only dreaming....’
A shiver goes through your body, and you realize you’re in the ocean and the sirens are surrounding you, purring and chirping softly. They almost look… happy? “My sweet…” It’s that one siren again. “Please let us explain. We never wanted you to see us like that… doing that.” He gently reaches out and brushes your hair from your face. “We love you.” He purrs, gently bumping his forehead on yours. “I’m Romance.” He whispers, his name wrapping around you like a song. “…I’m Mystery.” The one with purple hair says, he doesn’t directly touch you, but you can feel the longing radiating from him.
The one with teal hair swims up to your face and nips at your nose before licking it with his forked tongue. “I’m Baby… you smell sweet.” He hums, inhaling your scent. You flinch back from his teeth, the fear slowly creeping back in now that they’re not singing. The large siren pushes him away, his redish/pink hair falling in waves down his shoulders. “Ignore him, he’s an ass.” He smiles at you, making sure to keep his teeth hidden. “I’m Abby.” He wraps you in a hug and you can feel a slight purr vibrating through him before he pulls back.
The black-haired siren waits until the others have shifted away before he approaches. You shy away from him, feeling intimidated by the look on his face. He looks… intense. He pauses, seeing you hesitation, the look on his face melting into uncertainty. “I… I’m Jinu. I’m not going to hurt you… We… We’re not going to hurt you.” He swims closer, brushing his webbed fingers against your cheek. “You are our pod’s mate. We’ve been waiting so long, oh so long. And now you’re here.” He can’t help himself as he nuzzles into your neck.
You tense feeling his teeth lightly scrape your skin. “B-but the fisherman… y-you.. you killed him…” Your voice wavers with slight fear and uncertainty. You’re worried, what if they’re lying and you are their next meal. “We did…” Mystery mumbles, his fingers twitching, itching to touch you. “…but you’re here now. So, we won’t need to feed as often.” “W-what?” You stutter out, confused. “When siren pods find their mates or mate, a connection forms. It soothes the parts in us the longs for blood and death. We feed off the connection for long periods of time before we ever need to feed on actual food again.”
“B-but you still need to eat…?” Your head is spinning with so much information, it’s hard to think straight. “Yes, about four times a year.” Four times a year. You nearly gag again. That’s four times humans are going to die. “C-can’t you eat anything else? Does it h-have to be…” You don’t finish; you can’t. You feel ill enough already. “We have tried fish and other things, but they do not satisfy as human flesh does.” You don’t notice Romance and Jinu casting glances at each other, not until it’s too late.
You hear Romance’s voice singing softly in your ear, dragging you into a sense of comfort and trust. You don’t protest as they move you, nor when Baby presses his lips to yours, granting you the temporary ability to breathe underwater, just long enough for them to bring you to their underwater cave.
They all dive, keeping you between them safe and secure. Your mind is foggy, and you can’t focus, the last thing you clearly remember hearing is a soft voice whispering in your ear. “Don’t worry, Lovely. You’ll love it here.” You will love it there, with them. You’re so silly for wanting to go back and live with those pesky humans. After all, you are their mate. Why wouldn’t you want to live with them?
You really should have expected this, but with everything happening after the Idol Awards you just totally forgot about it. Your body didn’t forget though. It’s the reason you woke up at 3 am and stumble out of bed to the bathroom, praying to whatever deity that you hadn’t stained your pajama pants. You fumble around with the bathroom light switch, squinting at the harsh white light when you turn it on. You close the door and lock it, quickly stripping your pants and holding them up. “Shit.” You grumble, staring at the very obvious red stain. Of course, your period had to come now, right in the middle of moving and organizing. You always get bad cramps and feel like shit on your period. Not too mention the mood swings.
With an exhausted sigh, you set your pants in the tub and flip the switch off while trying not to wake the boys. They always slept like rocks, unless you made too much noise when getting up for the bathroom. It’s like they have a sixth sense just for you. You tiptoe over to the dress and slowly open the drawer with your clothing, quickly grabbing new pants and underwear.
You slip back into the bathroom and sigh in relief, they didn’t wake. You flip the light back on and change, opening the cabinet under the sink to grab a pad only to freeze. “Shit. No, no, no. Nooo, why am I out? I thought I got more- Ugh!” You whisper several curses at yourself. You truly have been so busy with moving and dealing with the boys being human that you totally forgot. You take a deep breath, calming yourself. “One step at a time.” You quickly wash the blood stain from your pants and then toss them into the hamper. “Alright… next problem.” You look through every single cabinet in hopes you misplaced them… you did not. “Damn.”
You startle when a knock echoes off the door. “Darling…?” It’s Romance, a very sleepy Romance. “Yes?” You answer, hoping he’ll just go back to bed. You forget that your boys have enhanced senses despite not being demons anymore. “Darling, I smell blood. Are you alright?” You groan, rubbing your tired eyes. “Yeah…” You unlock the bathroom door and open it. You cringed internally, imagining what a mess you probably look like. You give him a small smile, starting to feel a twinge of pain from the oncoming cramps. “It’s nothing to be worried about, it’s just something that happens.” You don’t really want to have to explain periods to Romance right now.
“But I smell blood.” He insists, moving into the bathroom and looking you over. “You smell like blood. Are you hurt?” You sigh, sitting down on the toilet seat, rubbing your forehead. “No, I’m not hurt… This happens once a month, I promise I’m fine.” Romance frowns and moves over to kneel in front of you. “My darling, if you’re in pain please don’t hide it from me.” Looking into his sleepy but concerned eyes you can’t not tell him. So, you explain to him how periods work and why.
With your emotions and hormones running on overdrive you wince, wondering if he finds you gross now. “I know it’s gross, but I-“ He places a finger on your lips to silence you, scooping you up into his arms. “Shush, you’re not gross.” He presses a kiss to your forehead and moves to carry you back to bed. “Wait! No, crap-“ You squirm in his arms a bit. “Romance you gotta put me down. I need to get pads from the store down the street.” He smirks slightly at you. “Hm, no.” He walks back into the other room, and you pause, the others are awake and sitting on the bed in various places. “…You’ve all been awake this whole time?”
“We woke up the minute you got up sweetheart.” Abby grins and it’s then you realize the bed sheets have been changed. “Aw.. guys…” You sniffle, feeling overwhelmed by their attentiveness. Romance sets you down on the bed and you get ambushed by their affection.
Baby pulls you into his lap and presses kisses to your shoulders and neck, Jinu presses featherlight kisses to your palms, Abby gently kneads your shoulders around Baby, and Mystery has one of his hands on your knees. After another quick explanation to ease their worries, you realize you still need to go to the store. “Guys… I really gotta go to the store… I’ll bleed through my pants and the sheets again..”
“Hmm, let us Lovely.” Mystery mumbles softly, his voice tinged with sleep. Jinu is already up and grabbing his wallet. “Wait no- You don’t know what kind of pads I like.” He pauses, realizing you’re right. With a defeated sigh he nods. “Okay, then let’s go together.” Everyone scrambles to put on some regular clothes, Abby walking over and picking you up. “H-hey! I can walk.” He shakes his head, smirking down at you. “Nope~ I saw you wince just now; no mate of mine is going to walk when she’s in pain.” You sigh and decide to just let them do what they want, you’re too tired to argue with them anyway.
After about a ten-minute walk you all enter the small store, and with you pointing out where you needed to go, you found the type of pads you liked pretty quickly. When Abby turns back to the others with you in his arms you both pause. The other four were in the snack section, holding multiple different types of snacks and… arguing? “What are you guys doing?” They freeze and look at you almost sheepishly. “We… we wanted to get you some snacks, to help you feel better…”
You coo at them, gushing at how sweet they’re being. You make Abby put you down and you walk over to them, looking at the different snacks they have picked out. “I love all of these actually. But those are my favorite.” You point to your favorite pack of snacks and turn back to Abby, who is still holding your pads. “Alright, I think that should do it. Let’s go home.” You check out your products, slipping a bottle of pain meds in for good measure and hand the bags to Abby.
You don’t notice the others check out a copious amount of snacks, hiding the bags behind their backs whenever you look at them. You yawn softly as you walk down the sidewalk, which prompts Baby to pick you up. “You look tired and dead on your feet, let me carry you.” You don’t complain, yawning softly, and snuggling into Baby’s chest. The boys did go a bit overboard in the snacks department, but you really can’t complain. They bought all your favorites.
When you get back to your house, Romance and Abby volunteer to put everything away while the other take you back to bed. After putting on a pad, you crawl into bed, exhausted yet content.
The next morning you gave the boys a scare when you wake with a loud groan, curling in on yourself like you’d been stabbed. Which it really did feel that way. “What can we do to help you, Lovely?” Mystery asks softly, rubbing small circles on your back. “Heat..” You whisper, wincing. “A-and pain meds...” Abby gently moves you so he can rest his hands on your abdomen. He has always been on the warmer side and right now you’ve never been more grateful. “Thank you, Abby…” “Here’s your pain meds, pretty girl.” Jinu sits on the edge of the bed, a glass of water and two pills in his hand. You nod grateful and quickly swallow them with some water.
Curling back up into Abby, you glance over your shoulder. “…cuddle pile?” You ask, and they all melt. Baby scoots in close and places several kisses on your neck. “Just relax… We’ll fight those cramps away.” He smirks at the small snort you let out. Romance goes behind Abby and drapes himself across his side, gently running his fingers on your arm. “Rest, darling.” Mystery says nothing, but he cuddles into your back, resting his cheek between your shoulder blades. Jinu lays next to Mystery, half on top of him, allowing him to take your hand and squeeze it. “Sleep, pretty girl.”
In the warm embrace of your mates, you allow sleep to drag you under, the cramps long forgotten between their warmth and the pain meds. And when you eventually woke, they had a tray of all your favorite snacks and drinks prepared for you. They understood what your period is and why, but that doesn’t mean they liked seeing you in pain. So, while it’s inevitable, they’ll always be there to catch you and soothe your pain away.
*Ahem* Soooo, if anyone has any ideas for me to write little stories for the boys, you can comment them or send them to me. Whatever you want to do. My work really has sucked a lot of my inspiration and I would love to have some ideas. I do want to write more for the boys! Besides, Karaoke Bar has been my only idea so far. Plus, I'd love to see what you guys want me to write about!
I'm a bit nervous, but excited! Hit me with you ideas! 💜
A/N: Hi! I live! This has been in my word docs for too long- My inspiration took a nosedive off a cliff and then work got reallllly stressful (still is) Buuuuuuuuuuuuuuut, I finally found some inspiration to get this written! Hope everyone enjoys! <3
Also, if you DON'T want to be tagged anymore, please tell me in the comments! I don't want to be annoying!
You don’t remember who suggested this, going to a karaoke bar. Maybe Abby mentioned it in passing to Jinu, or was it Baby when he read something about it online? Come to think of it, you don’t even know how they convinced Jinu to do this. Who knows. But here you are, dressing up in a black and red dress that has the boys a little too focused on you.
You sigh and look over at all five of your boys, all dressed nicely as well. “Are you guys ready?” Of course it was a classy bar, however, once the owners of the bar heard the Saja Boys were coming, they fixed the place up and even advertised it, unknown to all of you.
Romance’s gaze looks you up and down. “My darling you look ravishing.” He purrs out, his finger twitching as though they want to grab you. Abby’s eyes go a shade darker and his jaw clenches. “You’re dangerous dressed in that.” Jinu stares, his ears are tinged pink as he tries not to stare. He’s failing. Baby lets out a low whistle and shamelessly looks you over. “You’re so hot, baby.” Mystery purrs and rungs his fingers down your side. “Beautiful.”
You flush but push them away. “This was your guy’s idea so we’re going. No funny business.” You brush past them and head down the hallway to the kitchen, grabbing your purse and a bottle of water. “Alright, let’s go.” Outside on the street sits your guy’s van. You decided they all should learn how to drive, especially since they were no longer able to teleport like before. Jinu, Mystery, and Romance caught on pretty quickly. Baby and Abby though… they’re still works in progress.
Jinu jogs in front of you and opens the passenger door, bowing slightly. You giggle, slipping into the car. “Why thank you, good sir.” Myster quickly slips into the driver’s seat before Jinu can, smirking at him. They had a bit of a rivalry on who would get to drive you places. Baby snickers from the backseat. “I bet Jinu will get drunk first.” “Hey! Why come after me?!” Jinu makes an offended sound, looking at Baby. Baby shrugs, popping a starburst in his mouth. “You looked like a kicked puppy when Mystery took the driver’s seat, someone had to make fun of you.” He offers no other explanation and just smirks.
Abby rolls his eyes at Baby’s antics and reaches up to turn the radio on and everyone winces when a loud metal song starts playing. You playfully slap his hand away from the radio and turn the volume down before pulling out your phone. “Alright, we’re listening to my playlist this time. You guys always hog the music every time we go somewhere.” You flip through your playlist until you reach a specific song. Answer by ATEEZ. “This is one of my favorites.” You press play and as the first few lines play the whole van gets very quiet.
“You listen to other boy bands?” *It’s Mystery’s voice the cuts through the silence, his grip on the steering wheel tightening. You glance at him and then at the others, realizing how tense they’ve gotten. “Yeah…? C’mon guys, it’s just music. You all are my favorite, and you always will be, you know that.” The rest of the ride passes in a tense silence, and you know the boys are going to bring this up again tomorrow.
A few minutes later Mystery pulls up outside the bar, parking and turning the car off. You step out of the car and stretch, glancing at the rather empty parking lot. “Huh, I would have thought this bar would be busier this time of the evening.” Baby immediately crowds your left and Abby crowds your right, both of them placing their hands on your back. “Hey, don’t hog her.” Romance pouts and tries to push Baby out of the way. “Sorry lover boy.” Baby tugs you closer and refuses to let Romance hug you.
Jinu rolls his eyes, locking the car as Mystery smirks, moving and picking you up bridal style out from under Baby. You yelp and wrap your arms around Mystery, looking back as Baby growls and jogs after you. Abby laughs, watching Baby’s face go from shock to anger. “A-alright boys!” You snicker softly in Mystery’s arms. “Let’s behave, yeah?” Jinu walks ahead and opens the door to the bar while Mystery reluctantly sets you down. You press a kiss to his cheek and walk into the bar.
The silence is the first thing you notice, a bar shouldn’t be this quiet. “Eh, did you boys book the whole club or something?” “No, we didn’t even mention our names.” Romance looks around confused as he brings a hand to rest on the small of your back. Abby walks off to find a staff member as the rest of you move further in, looking for an explanation of the barren bar. “Welcome!” You startle and spin around to see an elderly man dressed in a nice suit. “It’s an honor to host the Saja Boys.” He bows slightly and gestures to a table set in the corner of the room. “Please, sit. I have prepared your dinner personally.”
“Hey guys, I can’t find any- Oh.” Abby looks between the elderly man and the rest of you, shrugging. “Guess you already found someone.” “Why are there only five seats?” Mystery growls softly, staring at the table and chairs like they personally offended him. Everyone’s attention is suddenly on the elderly man. “W-what? Have I done something to offend you all?” “Why are there only five chairs? What about our sweet ma- I mean-” Romance stutters through his sentence when Baby elbows him in the ribs. “Her seat. Where is it?” Abby asks, his tone serious.
“Oh! Her chair is over there.” He points to the other side of the room, a small table with a chair sits in the dark corner. You stare at the setup with tired look, mumbling something to yourself. “That’s not acceptable, she’s sitting with us.” Abby shuts him down quickly as Mystery drags the chair over to their table, putting it right between himself and Baby. Jinu interrupts before anything gets out of hand. “We’d like some menu’s please.” The elderly man quickly leaves, intimidated by the stares from all five men.
You sigh, glancing around the place. “This place is pretty nice, though the staff could be more polite.” “You’re too nice my darling. He outright disrespected you by trying to place you across the room from us.” Romance pouts, his hands gently rubbing you shoulders as he stands behind you. “Alright, it’s fixed now, let’s sit down and try to enjoy ourselves.” Jinu gives Romance a pointed look and makes sure everyone is seated before sitting down himself.
A waiter shows up a few minutes later, handing all of you a menu and quickly scurrying away. You snort in amusement before looking down at the menu. The food on the menu looks good, but there isn’t much variety. You order something simple that you know you enjoy and as the waiter returns you all send your orders with him. “Well, this has been interesting.” You smile and try not to giggle, thinking about it. “You guys should have seen your faces when he pointed to the table for me.” “What can we say sweetheart? We’re protective.” Abby shrugs, patting Romance on the shoulder as he agrees. “That’s one way to put it.”
“Your food!” The elderly gentleman returns with two waiters who are carrying all the food. You glance at Abby. “How much did you order?” “Only three plates.” You can only roll your eyes, eyeing your food in hunger as the waiters set it all down. “Enjoy, please!” Everyone makes idle chat as you all eat. “Baby, stop slurping.” You scold, glaring at him and gently smacking his arm. He just smirks and slurps again. Romance groans, shoving a bite of food into his mouth to stop himself from going off on Baby. Abby happily devours his three plates of food; Jinu eats much slower than everyone. “Okay grandpa.” Baby snickers, only to yelp when Jinu kicks his shin under the table.
Mystery watches it all with amusement, quietly eating his bowl of soup. He subtly leans over and presses a kiss on your cheek before going back to his food. “Abby… mouth closed.” He says sharply, staring at him. Abby freezes when he hears and immediately stops chewing with his mouth open.
When you finish you lean back a bit and pat your belly. “Okay, the food was better than I was expecting.” “Indeed.” Mystery grabs one of your hands and intertwines your fingers. You smile at him and squeeze his hand. “So how about-“ You don’t get to finish before a loud commotion interrupts you. The doors to the club open and you all freeze, hundreds, if not thousands, of people are standing outside, waiting to get in. “What the hell?” Baby hisses, glaring at the mass of fans all yelling ‘Saja Boys.’
The elderly man appears and smiles. “I hope it wasn’t too presumptuous of me, but would it be possible to get a performance tonight?” All the fans scream ‘yes.’ Everyone’s frozen and uncomfortable. “It is too presumptuous. We came here for a fun evening, and you turned into a profit for yourself. That is unacceptable.” The elderly man falters, glancing behind him at the fans. “I’ll p-pay you! Please, just one song.” He begs, knowing if they don’t perform, he’ll be ruined.
“Why not just one?” You mumble, feeling slightly bad for the man. You know you shouldn’t, he invaded the boy’s privacy and told fans where they would be, but for some reason you still felt a bit bad. “Darling, it’s not just that-“ “The evening was supposed to be about you. You are supposed to be the center of our night.” You smile at them, your eyes softening. “I know, but just one song and then we can go home?” They all sigh, looking at each other and nodding. “One.” They move onto the stage, and you sit back down, the security guards letting the fans in. Suddenly the empty bar is packed. You flinch when several people sit down at your table, but you ignore them as best you can.
When the music for ‘Soda Pop’ starts up you feel a flutter in your chest. You love watching them sing, they look so happy. Your immersion is broken when you feel a had brush against your shoulder. Turning your head sharply, you look to see an intoxicated man getting a little too close. You grunt and move to stand, only for him to grab your wrist. “C’monnn *hic* babyyy~ Where y-you goin’?” You wrinkle your nose at the smell of alcohol. “Away from you.” You yank your wrist from his grasp and slip away, heading for the back area of the stage.
As you shove your way through the crowd, several people recognize you from after the Namsan Tower performance. You give him a nervous smile and bump into someone. “I’m sorry-“ You back up, pausing at the man you just bumped into. He’s dressed rather nicely, but he has a look in his eyes you don’t like. “I apologize for bumping into you, sir. Excuse me.” You try to slip past him, but his arm goes around your waist, and he pulls you into a dance. “Oh? Leaving so soon, pretty girl?” You grimace at the affectionate name Jinu usually calls you, it sounds gross coming from this man’s mouth. “Yes, actually. I have to meet my… my partners. They’re waiting for me.”
He laughs softly, but his grip tightens. “Just one dance, surely they can spare you for one dance?” “Sir I must insist-“ He shakes his head, mumbling quietly. “One dance.” You gasp when his hand wanders a bit too low and he touches your ass. You’re too busy trying to get away from the creep currently holding you way to close, or you would notice the five stares on you, hatred burning towards the man currently holding you.
They all saw the grimace on your face, the discomfort in your body language. And clearly this… scum couldn’t understand that. You’re taken. As soon Soda Pop ends, Jinu immediately grabs the mic tighter. “Tonight, we have a special guest, someone very close to us.” You glance at the stage, and your eyes meet his intense gaze. “Our girlfriend, soulmate, however you want to put it. We’d like to introduce you all to your partner. ___!”
The crowd parts and suddenly you’re the center of attention. Baby sneers subtly at the man still holding you. “Sir, we would appreciate if you let our partner go.” Faced with the attention of the whole bar, the man lets your go as if he had been burned. You slowly approach the stage; your cheeks flushed a soft pink. Abby helps you onto the stage and immediately you’re surrounded by your mates. “We’d like to properly introduce our love, our partner… ___!” Jinu hugs you to his chest, you can feel the possessiveness in their gazes and touches. “She’s ours, and we’re hers.” They don’t care about the audience, only you.
Mystery is the one who breaks the trance you all are in, addressing the crowd to end this crazy night. “As much as we love to perform for you all, we’re still on hiatus and we’d love to go home and spend the rest of our evening with your partner. We thank you all for being fans and remember...” All the boys turn to the crowd, bowing slightly. “The Saja Boys love you!” They all turn and take you with them out the back door. The audience goes wild with the new revelation and they know their PR team is going to hate them for this, but they couldn't go without everyone knowing you are theirs.
Baby is the first to break the silence, a growl in his voice. “I wanted to kill him.” He growls, pulling you to his chest. “How dare he touch what’s ours.” Romance ‘tsks’ and gently takes you from Baby’s arms. “Gently. Are you alright darling?” He pets your hair and peppers kisses on the top of your head.
You sigh, melting into his arms. You’ve had enough socializing for the next month after that. “I am now. That guy was just a creep, getting all touchy. But it’s fine, he didn’t do much other than that and he definitely won’t now.” You smile at them, pulling back and grabbing Baby’s hand. “Let’s go home.” You gently pull Romance and Baby behind you.
Jinu pauses, looking at Abby and Mystery. “Make sure he disappears. No one touches her like that and gets away with it.” Abby grins, his fangs showing a bit. “Got it.” Mystery smirks and nods. “We’ll take care of it.” Jinu nods and heads back to the car, getting in the driver's seat. He gives Baby and Romance a look to which they both nod.
You don’t have time to notice Abby or Mystery are missing with Romance and Baby distracting you and by the time you get home they’re waiting, smothering you in affection the moment you step out of the car. “Wait you guys weren’t in the car?” You give them a confused look, opening your mouth to ask another question, but Mystery presses a kiss to your mouth, silencing any other questions you have.
“Don’t worry about it, lovely.” He whispers on your lips. “We’re here and that’s all the matters.” To you it is, why worry about anything else when you have your mates? Besides, no one is going to notice one missing drunk. Right?
You just smile as they follow you into the house. “Sooooo… who wants to watch some shows a cuddle?” “I do!” Me!” “I call dibs to sitting next to ___!” “No! C’mon Baby you sat there last night!” Jinu lets them fight and gently pulls you down the hallway into the bedroom. He helps you change into one of his hoodies and then carries you back out to the couch, settling you on his lap. “No, I get dibs tonight.”
The fighting immediately stops and they all sulk, going to change into their comfy clothes. Abby sits on Jinu’s right, leaning over and resting on your lap. Romance sits on Jinu’s left and intertwines your fingers with his. Baby grumbles about getting stuck on the floor as he sits between Jinu’s legs so he can rest his head on your thigh. Mystery growls as he’s unable to sit close enough to have contact with you. He sits in the recliner next to the couch and spends the next ten minutes glaring at the others.
You smile, resting your head on Jinu’s shoulder. As the show on TV plays in the background you doze off, letting yourself drift off in the comfort of your mate’s arms. Jinu stills, looking down at your peaceful face with a soft look in his eyes. ‘Perfect. Our perfect mate.’
You don’t remember who suggested this, going to a karaoke bar. Maybe Abby mentioned it in passing to Jinu, or was it Baby when he read something about it online? Come to think of it, you don’t even know how they convinced Jinu to do this. Who knows. But here you are, dressing up in a black and red dress that has the boys a little too focused on you.
You sigh and look over at all five of your boys, all dressed nicely as well. “Are you guys ready?” Of course it was a classy bar, however, once the owners of the bar heard the Saja Boys were coming, they fixed the place up and even advertised it, unknown to all of you.
Romance’s gaze looks you up and down. “My darling you look ravishing.” He purrs out, his finger twitching as though they want to grab you. Abby’s eyes go a shade darker and his jaw clenches. “You’re dangerous dressed in that.” Jinu stares, his ears are tinged pink as he tries not to stare. He’s failing. Baby lets out a low whistle and shamelessly looks you over. “You’re so hot, baby.” Mystery purrs and rungs his fingers down your side. “Beautiful.”
You flush but push them away. “This was your guy’s idea so we’re going. No funny business.” You brush past them and head down the hallway to the kitchen, grabbing your purse and a bottle of water. “Alright, let’s go.” Outside on the street sits your guy’s van. You decided they all should learn how to drive, especially since they were no longer able to teleport like before. Jinu, Mystery, and Romance caught on pretty quickly. Baby and Abby though… they’re still works in progress.
Jinu jogs in front of you and opens the passenger door, bowing slightly. You giggle, slipping into the car. “Why thank you, good sir.” Myster quickly slips into the driver’s seat before Jinu can, smirking at him. They had a bit of a rivalry on who would get to drive you places. Baby snickers from the backseat. “I bet Jinu will get drunk first.” “Hey! Why come after me?!” Jinu makes an offended sound, looking at Baby. Baby shrugs, popping a starburst in his mouth. “You looked like a kicked puppy when Mystery took the driver’s seat, someone had to make fun of you.” He offers no other explanation and just smirks.
Abby rolls his eyes at Baby’s antics and reaches up to turn the radio on and everyone winces when a loud metal song starts playing. You playfully slap his hand away from the radio and turn the volume down before pulling out your phone. “Alright, we’re listening to my playlist this time. You guys always hog the music every time we go somewhere.” You flip through your playlist until you reach a specific song. Answer by ATEEZ. “This is one of my favorites.” You press play and as the first few lines play the whole van gets very quiet.
“You listen to other boy bands?” *It’s Mystery’s voice the cuts through the silence, his grip on the steering wheel tightening. You glance at him and then at the others, realizing how tense they’ve gotten. “Yeah…? C’mon guys, it’s just music. You all are my favorite, and you always will be, you know that.” The rest of the ride passes in a tense silence, and you know the boys are going to bring this up again tomorrow.
A few minutes later Mystery pulls up outside the bar, parking and turning the car off. You step out of the car and stretch, glancing at the rather empty parking lot. “Huh, I would have thought this bar would be busier this time of the evening.” Baby immediately crowds your left and Abby crowds your right, both of them placing their hands on your back. “Hey, don’t hog her.” Romance pouts and tries to push Baby out of the way. “Sorry lover boy.” Baby tugs you closer and refuses to let Romance hug you.
Jinu rolls his eyes, locking the car as Mystery smirks, moving and picking you up bridal style out from under Baby. You yelp and wrap your arms around Mystery, looking back as Baby growls and jogs after you. Abby laughs, watching Baby’s face go from shock to anger. “A-alright boys!” You snicker softly in Mystery’s arms. “Let’s behave, yeah?” Jinu walks ahead and opens the door to the bar while Mystery reluctantly sets you down. You press a kiss to his cheek and walk into the bar.
The silence is the first thing you notice, a bar shouldn’t be this quiet. “Eh, did you boys book the whole club or something?” “No, we didn’t even mention our names.” Romance looks around confused as he brings a hand to rest on the small of your back. Abby walks off to find a staff member as the rest of you move further in, looking for an explanation of the barren bar. “Welcome!” You startle and spin around to see an elderly man dressed in a nice suit. “It’s an honor to host the Saja Boys.” He bows slightly and gestures to a table set in the corner of the room. “Please, sit. I have prepared your dinner personally.”
“Hey guys, I can’t find any- Oh.” Abby looks between the elderly man and the rest of you, shrugging. “Guess you already found someone.” “Why are there only five seats?” Mystery growls softly, staring at the table and chairs like they personally offended him.
