This is my final Type specimen poster outcome. While I love posters with lots of information I found it challenging to work with so much text while still making it interesting.  I decided to give the rectangles a slant in order to keep the eye flowing with the slate of the text. I think this gives better unison to my type specimen poster. Throughout this course I have immensely improved my skills with working with type as well as learning indesign as a program. I still think I have a lot of learning to do, but I feel as though I can see clear improvement throughout my work this semester in typography 2.

After a lot of trial and error this is what my poster looks like now, and what will be printed December 2nd. I think this layout gives the poster much more of a race-y feel and drags your eye through the page whether u want it or not, Im liking the direction of my poster a lot more today. Perhaps the green is too overwhelming. It’s hard to say when it hasn't been printed yet.

This is my very first draft for my type specimen poster. After staring at it for hours I decided the layout was boring and the hierarchy was questionable. Many changes are to be made to this poster.

These are the speediest thumbnails I have ever done in my life. In class we were pushed to produce more and think less. For my type specimen poster I was really nervous thinking about it and wanted to take my time with each thumbnail. However, being forced to produce work quickly gave me lots of options and helped me more freely lay things on the page. I tried to work with angles and diagonals a lot. I really want my type-faces to feed off each other. From here I have decided to go with one font w information starting in the top left corner and the other type face beginning in the bottom right corner. if executed correctly they should play off each other nicely. And though its not important yet, I thinks best for me to work with very little or no colour at all so I can have more time focusing on the layout and how the elements interact together.

#1- I chose this type specimen poster as inspiration for a few reasons. The design overall is simple and clean, which I think helps draw attention to the type face itself. I also am inspired by the designers choice to display the different faces by using words directly related to the name of the font. This is a unique and intriguing twist.

#2- This example is one of the very few examples I could find where one poster is displaying 2 separate fonts. Again, I really like the simple black and white idea and the contrasting tab like structures to demonstrate the font names. I thought it was interesting how the designer made the information centred while constructively comparing and contrasting the fonts side by side.

#3- The Trade Gothic Poster is clean and easy to look at, while also being very dynamic with a range of varying font sizes. I like how the “G” is is the main drama point, while all the information floats around it with varying opacities. I think the small splash of colour also helps make this poster stand out.

My Type Library.

Type choices: Bureau Grot bold, and Minion pro regular. These two fonts contrast each other nicely. I went for a simple style as to draw the readers eye directly towards the information. I enhanced this my making tours, prices, and access, brightly coloured. The contrasting colours work well together and the bold sans-serif helps draw the reader to important topics.

Format: Originally outlined I had 5 columns to help format my page. Looking at it, however, I could see how one might think there are only two columns. Im starting to regret my design layout.

Challenge: In the beginning, I struggled a lot because I wanted to be super unique. By the end, I decided more importantly than begin out standing and fancy, this document is intended to be informational and catch the eye quickly. Going with a plan background and small image allowed me, and hopefully anyone, to directly focus on the text.

Take away: I predict many task such as this will be in my future. Being able to start now and focus on tasks parallel to that of my career will help me gain confidence and dedication.

Overall, I had a lot of fun recreating this sample piece, however many of the original fonts were difficult to find. I struggled with recreating the text in the two sections beside the diagram. Personally I like the designers design to use different weighted lines and geometric shaped to counter balance the large, heavy diagrams. Recreating this magazine page helped me better understand what fonts are appropriate to help properly portray a feeling while also enhancing the overall presentation. This designers choice off of serif contrasting a bold sans-serif effectively relays the message while allowing your eye to move through the page relatively  freely.
