Matt raised his eyebrows and he curled his lips up into a smile. “I guess the four years of calm have kinda gotten to your head, Damon.” He shook his head and he hid his hands in the pockets of his jackets. “But I guess that calm is some act of kindness, right?”

“ I see you haven’t changed much, Vanilla. ” it was clear Matt still hated the vampire, still hadn’t let go of all the things Damon had done in the past... Which admittedly, was a lot of things but Damon was too tired to fight his defence right now.

The vampire inhaled sharply as if he was trying his damn hardest to hold something back. He raised his head, his eyes wincing at her name... Evelyn. Swallowing hard, Damon dared to turn around and face the witch. “ Ask Marcel. ”

“ Well now that we’ve established some ground rules... ” Damon turned to her, his hand moving to reach for the bottle of bourbon he had purchased before sliding it along the bar to the brunette.

“ Fine. ” Damon’s mood could always be won over by alcohol, so it seemed, “ Pick your poison. ”

Gabriel couldn’t recall the last time he’d seen or held a decent conversation with Damon, which was odd considering he was the best friend of the wolf’s lover. Nevertheless, when he saw the man sitting alone at the bar he figured it was never too late to rectify that, But it seemed Damon wasn’t quite in the mod for chit chat. “Too late, another whiskey and whatever he’s having.” Gabriel speaks to the barkeep before sitting next to his less than sociable friend. “No worries I’m easy company.”

Damon turned to face the wolf with an expression of curiosity upon his features at the confidence he seemed to exude despite Damon’s foul mood. “ You really have been spending too much time with Enzo. ” Enzo was one of the few people who was able to withstand Damon’s tantrums and that skill must’ve somehow rubbed off onto Gabriel.

Matt wasn’t sure what to do when he noticed Damon at the bar. They hadn’t really talked for a while and they had not really been friends or something, but just turning around and walking away like he hadn’t seen him felt kinda weird too. “I just wanted to say hi anyway.” At least, maybe he was gonna tell about the few people with memory loss too, but he wasn’t gonna start with that.

“ What act of great kindness did I do to deserve the presence of the most noble of them all? ” Damon smiled in amusement at his own words but actually turned to face Matt to give him a smidgen of his time.

“ You have met me before, right? ” Damon turned to face the witch with a deep frown upon his forehead. “ Good job I put GPS trackers on everyone here, ” the vampire forced a half smile at his comment, “ who is it? ”

Lips shape into a hard line, chest heaving as the discomfort of her breath holds between the chamber of her chest. Slowly the breath leaves her, nimble hands pushing back chocolate locks. It felt awkward, painfully so, to the point where she almost did exactly as he asked. But there was a bravery there, nestled in her gut and with it she pulled out the chair next to him, slipping down against the wood. “ I’m not doing that Damon. Stop trying to push me away. “ a slender digit lifts, ordering a drink, hoping it will smooth out the chaotic haze jumbled in the pits of her stomach.

Damon felt the necessity to internally groan and hang his head lower at the realisation of who was now within his vicinity. The two of them had quite developed quite the estranged relationship over the past four years, but all of his other relationships had become exactly the same way. But Elena... It’s like she wanted to fix him. “ As opposed to what? I mean, you’re the expert on loss here. ” that was a weak comment to make, even for Damon, but sometimes he wasn’t able to stop his lips from moving before his mind had chance to catch up.

With a heavy sigh, the vampire turned to face the intruder. “ At least stop breathing so lou- actually no, just in general. ” Damon offered her a forced and emphasised smile before turning his back on her once again.

The natural hustle and bustle of the bar had transitioned into white noise to Damon, yet he picked up on the sound of footsteps approaching him until finally coming to a halt beside him. “ Stop - turn around, and walk away. ” He didn’t need to turn around to see who it was, he didn’t care - as long as they left him alone.
