CUTIES ❤️
Jake + Amy Parallels (Season 1-8) Part 2
Part 1
2x04 // 8x10
for science 🤓 (requested by anonymous)
Jake and Amy met at the 99th precinct, became friends in the 99th precinct, fell in love in the 99th precinct, had their first real kiss in the 99th precinct, became engaged in the 99th precinct, got married at the 99th precinct, had their child in the 99th precinct, and now they both left the 99th precinct together on the same day ❤️
Andy Samberg fully rocking the Jake Peralta look in 2012, a year and half before Brooklyn 99
Jake waking up from a coma and Amy getting back together with Teddy would have been real if the creators of How I met your mother had been the writers of B99 and you just know it
I never thought Jake would leave his job. Like, after Amy it was his one true love. Maybe he'd move to the FBI or work as a PI but never thought he'd want to stay at home. I guess its do easy for him to give it all up because maybe the very reason that motivated him to be a detective isnt as strong as a motivator anymore? Maybe it was Die hard, maybe it was wanting to protect his mom, but I guess being more stable in his life meant he could take a step back and re evaluate what he really wanted?
I'm conflicted, like I'm not saying it's unbelievable for Jake to choose the househusband option. It fits with his growth and yes, re-evaluating what matters to him most (Mac buddy and Amy getting to fulfil her greatest career dreams). He was never that ambitious in his career, and his original motivations (die hard, riddle-solving and protecting loved ones imho) aren't that strong anymore.
But.
But.
He IS a great detective. One of the best, and the show kept repeating that. Andy has called both him and Amy 'savant good' at their jobs. And so it feels kind of wrong to me to take that completely away from him.
So I don't want to criticise this ending - it's sweet and beautiful and perfect in its own way - but I'll simply add my own HCs that a) he absolutely helps out Amy+Holt from home and gets to keep his 'riddles' that way and b) a few years down the line when Mac+Maya are in school Holt recommends him to the FBI and he goes the agent route...
Careers have ebbs and flows. Jake has spent his entire 20s and 30s as one of the nypd’s top detectives. Since he was never interested in climbing the ranks he got to live his dream job way earlier than most people do. It does make sense at that age for him to think of his career as his entire identity. Him not ever feeling like he was part of a family until the 99 and Amy definitely contributed to that. But he’s not that person anymore. He’s a man in his 40s who does have a family and is now reevaluating who he is as a person. I totally agree with you that he will likely go back to work when his kids are older and more independent. Maybe at the FBI. Maybe when he decides to go back to work is when Amy takes a break? Either way confirmation that the squad will do the heists every year means that Jake’s puzzle solving muscles and his “savant” abilities won’t atrophy. Plus I’m sure that all of his detective/PI friends will ask him for advice every now and again, given how smart he is. Maybe he becomes a part-time consultant for these next few years? I’m not totally sure. Either way Jake is still gonna be his same somewhat immature and loveable self. And that’s the important thing here!
I really, really like your take on this!
Another important thing is the writers wrote the finale in a way which left sooooo much up to us to decide. Oh you think Jake and Amy had 5 more kids? Then they did. Jake went to the fbi after Mac went to kindergarten? Then he did. Jake works w/ Rosa sometimes as a PI? Then he did. The possibilities are endless and I love how the writers did that.
yes I'm glad they didn't do a kind of 'years later' flashforward because NO MATTER WHAT they'd put in there, someone in the fandom would've found something to complain about
this way we all get to go our own little hc-ways and still be happy about it
sir that’s so illegal
b99 is over forever
Andy loves this show so much and that is shown by the fact that he pulled himself out of his basement after a year in a half, put on a suit, and went to nyc to have this cast interview happen.
i love him and i love seth and i love this cast i am thriving
finale plotline predictions?
I have absolutely no idea what's to come, tbh. And I'm excited for it! I love that they didn't share many pics or even a real promo because then we'll all be surprised. I read someone say we might get a last heist where the squad meets old (and new) faces while running through the streets of New York and I have to say, I love that idea. I hope we get one last "title of your sextape" joke because we always get at least one every season and we haven't gotten it yet when it's like... the reoccuring joke from the show. I guess we can predict Teddy proposing to Amy one last time... or on the opposite, he'll have finally moved on. I hope so much for a parallel with Jake and Amy and the pilot – and actually regarding them, they'll probably have a conversation about her job and figure everything out with one last cute moment between the two of them that will make us all swoon. I'm pretty sure we'll get a big Jake/Holt moment as well. Maybe a speech, a "Nine-Nine!" at Shaw's... a flashforward perhaps. I'm also so curious to know where Jake and Charles will end up because they're the only two we have no idea about. I hope whatever it is, they'll still be together because I rewatched The Last Ride a few days ago and I really don't want them to be separated :') They're made to work together, wherever that is. And so yeah, I think that's it? They're more wishes than prediction, though lol.
