Rin is a dog dad periodt
allnostalgic:
open rp | balto .
He silently watches from afar, contemplating if he would be welcomed if he was to come out in the open. Though he was used to being outcast, he always found himself yearning to be involved.
The food, drinks, the voices mixed from each table are all combined together for this chance to enjoy the company of others and indulge in meals. Rin is having a conversation with someone until he spots the canine from his peripheral vision. It looks quite hesitant about something. Rin decides not to eat the chicken drumstick on his plate. "Sec," he just says as he gets up from his seat all while picking up the drumstick. Slowly approaching the dog, he crouches down at a fair distance.
"Hey. Are you hungry? You can take this if you want." He speaks with a mellow tone, a smile displaying on his face.

For a moment it felt like being back in Iwatobi, instead of three thousand miles away in Indonesia. Back when Rin had been willing to teach him to swim, and his biggest challenge was staying afloat (instead of sinking like a stone to the very bottom). It hadn’t been that long, all things considered… But it felt like a lifetime.
Graduation would do that, he supposed.
“I’ll remember.” He promised, and let Rin detour back into the centre for his own events. “And good luck!”
An hour was just long enough to get down to the locker room, showered and changed, his swim bag slung over his shoulder as he hurried back down the way he’d come. The sports plex felt like a bit of a maze, the impression only heightened by the sea of unfamiliar faces, and different Asian languages.
All beautiful in their own way, yes– but a little disorienting when taken all together!
Rei arrived at the right pool jump in time for the swimmers to take their marks. He wondered if Makoto and the others were watching the event back in Japan (he hoped so). People didn’t give him a second glance, not with his swim bag and wet hair, as he slid into an empty seat near the entrance, his eyes moving across the lineup until he found Rin.
He was just one voice in the crowd as he yelled and cheered with the rest, as the starter’s whistle blew.
What his ears hear when he went back to Mikhail is a ten-minute scolding. How could he wander off like that without a heads-up? What if something happened to him? Rin proceeds to do his thing, doing a few stretches as his coach is showering him with ‘what if’ questions. Then followed by ‘not cool’. He should really drop the slang in all honesty.
The time has come. Time flies fast. Rin carefully places his swim cap on his head, making sure to neatly tuck his maroon hair in all comfortably. Then he puts on his goggles and doesn’t move his hand away before he gives his signature tug to the strap. A grin conveying determination and self-assurance is etched on the shark’s exterior. Once the swimmers are called to get in position, Rin is without his jacket, leaving him with his long-legged swimskins.
On your marks. Rin’s form, along with the others’, is bent over the jumping stand, one leg stretched back. His eyes are fully focused on the clear water which he is planning to tame and become one with. As soon as the whistle blows, with a strong kick Rin propels his leg, giving him the advantage of a flawless start. Now he only has to keep it up.
Diving in the water always feels magical. Rin believes that with hard work everything can be achieved. And as he is swimming, he could only think about the finish line. Everything else is a blur. It’s time for a turn, his body comes in a crouching position against the wall of the pool before he springs himself back in the opposite direction. He has a rival that is quickly catching up, however. He could sense him right on his tail. But that doesn’t mean anything. He continues pushing forward.
The last milliseconds will determine who will qualify. As soon as Rin’s hand hits the wall, he lifts his head out of the water and inhales. The crowd’s cheering becomes louder now that he perceives the surroundings. His name comes in second only by 0.5 secs from the first. He raises his fist in triumph, knowing he qualified.
After the swimmers have gotten out of the pool, Rin’s gaze wanders to look around the crowd. And since Rei is sitting not too far from where he is, Rin spots him and nods his head with a smile. Then he turns to talk with his coach for a bit, using a towel to dry himself.

orcx-nus:
There’s a growing uneasiness within him as he waits in anticipation for his friend’s response, air quickly growing heavy around him.
He does feel a small swell in his chest when he feels Rin squeeze his hand in return, a glimmer of hope beginning to grow as he waits to hear the words he so expected. And there they are.
A puff of air parts his lips, a breath he didn’t realize he was holding, and his entire body visibly relaxes. Instantly, the mood shifts and a gentle warmth begins to fill the room. Rin was still Rin – nothing was changing, he was not going to return to his formerly angry self anymore. Everything was going to be alright.
Emerald gaze melts back to its usual softness, hand giving the smaller digits one final, grateful squeeze.
“Thank you, Rin.”
The words of gratitude are almost sickly sweet, with his signature smile to match, and it is clear just how meaningful this private promise between the two has become for Makoto. It was all the assurance he needed.
As meaningful as this moment was, however, the brunet makes little attempt to prolong it much more – a subtle attempt to prevent the shark from getting flustered, and hoping to hide his own embarrassment as well. After all, now that he had come back to his senses, the realization of his previous actions was finally starting to catch up with him.
Makoto was beginning to feel a little ashamed. Though maybe the light tint on his cheeks was giving it away.
“A-Anyway… Are you hurt elsewhere? Will you be alright?” he attempts to distract his friend, finally releasing his hand. “You’re welcome to stay as long as you need if you are badly hurt. I wouldn’t want Gou to worry.”
He is beginning to understand how much even the simple things can make a difference. Rin has been going big this whole time and overlooking the little details that could equally bring him joy as much as the big ones. He can see that this promise means a lot to Makoto and it’s the same for him. The shark has learned to not just get better at swimming but— to be kinder. Eventually it pays off. Instead of feeling constant anger, it’s nice to experience the fuzzy sensation of happiness. Rin doesn’t feel as tense as he used to. His motivation was driven by a grudge he’s held for years. But it doesn’t have to be this way. He’s found a new motivator, his own happiness. His success will only be anchored to his true feelings, rather than the things that his hateful emotions used to choose for him.
The redhead feels himself getting a tad flustered the longer this is going. So he turns his head to the side as to conceal any expression that may expose that. A promise takes a lot of trust. This is his queue to remember what it used to be surrounded by love and support. Seeing Makoto smile like that, he wouldn’t ever want to disappoint. Just moments ago he could see his friend in such a perturbed state and he’d prefer that it doesn’t happen again.
His gaze shifts down to their hands. Does he move his hand? What is he supposed to— He clears his throat, the tips of his ears and a little bit of his cheeks are painted bright red. Still, a pout manifests on his façade. He doesn’t complain anymore, however.
Rin looks back ahead, listening to Makoto’s question. “No, I am not. And yeah, I’ll be fine.” It’s like he’s come back to reality when when he realizes he’s supposed to be staying somewhere else.
“I informed mom and Gou that I’ll be gone for a while. Until the visible injuries fade away at least. I’m thinking about renting a room at a hotel.” He says, bringing a hand to rub the back of his neck. “You know, you’ve already done a lot for me.”

There was nothing beautiful in the way Rei squawked and spun around, smacking a hand over his shoulder where something had obviously bitten him!
And not a mosquito, no– with huge, surprised eyes, Rei watched the sneaking biter saunter off down the deck, like he didn’t have a care in the world. Like Rei couldn’t feel the lingering graze of his teeth on his skin!
“Sempai?!”
Like Rei wasn’t turning a dozen shades of red, and Nagisa wasn’t crowing with laughter, and Makoto wasn’t trying (and failing) not to smile.
Rei spluttered, and it was a minor miracle that he didn’t stumble backwards into the pool; his focus had been entirely, completely, and utterly hijacked by the smirking shark that had– why?!
Fueled with a rush of embarrassment and curiousity (alright, and eager to escape Nagisa’s laughter before his friend decided to grill him for answers he didn’t have!) Rei bolted after Rin.
“Come back here!”
He lucked out. Everyone quieted down when he was ‘going for the kill’, more than likely wondering what he was planning to do. Rei always looks absorbed in his monologues that it’s amusing to Rin a bit. But it’s an interesting quirk which he admires. Besides, Rei is fun to mess with.
Rin hears Rei call out to him, his eyes shifting to the side and he can sense that the other is approaching. He takes a sharp turn, his expression so conceited all the way from his eyes to his mouth. Rin stands with a slightly slouched posture, shoulders poised back for a bit of an arched back. A hand is now placed onto the redhead’s protruding hip.
“Huh? Are you comin’ for more?” A high up-curve to the edge of his lips display the fangs that left a mark on Rei’s shoulder as he taunts. Above is a ruby glint of subtly narrowed eyes, giving a quizzical look. His triumphal stance as though casts a spell which always gets him what he wants. And he’s feeling daring, so this only means one thing.
He leans in a tad, just to narrow the distance. From the look of his challenging gaze, he is expecting fine results.
“So, what’s it gonna be?”
