So, About Mickey 17,
Am entertaining, although somewhat unfulfilling, critique of modern capitalism and religion.
This is not a particularly subtle film. Like much of Bong Joon-Ho's work, it wears its opinions on its sleeve. The workers of a space colony live in grungy conditions eating shit food and putting their lives on the line while the expedition leaders live in luxury, worry about inconsequential things like sauces, and generally treat everyone else as merely tools. The corporate religion, meanwhile, cares more about appearances, symbols, and spectacle than actual morality.
Where the plot kicks in is when Mickey, the officially designated "Expendable", basically a human guinea pig and meatshield, is accidentally duplicated. We are shown that there are some severe differences between the clones. Mickey 17 is a timid & subservient people-pleaser, while Mickey 18 is is much more sure of himself and aggressive when necessary. It would seem to me there is a story about how, in order to win the day and stop the sins of society, both of those are necessary. It is Mickey 18 that properly sticks it to the man and stops the expedition leaders from destroying a species, whereas it's Mickey 17 that brokers peace and stops things from getting any worse.
The one weak spot of this film, I feel, is we don't really spend a lot of time on things that could've been fleshed out much more. The majority of the film takes place on this single colony ship, and in stories like that the single setting should feel like very defined, almost a character in and of itself. Instead, although we spend most of our time on the ship, we see very little outside of a handful of specific locations that feel almost disconnected from each other. Additionally, the mechanics by which Mickey is able to die and be cloned repeatedly are explained but never quite explored as much as they could've been. For instance it's never explicitly made clear how much of each previous life each Mickey remembers, or why exactly there are substantial personality differences. We can make inferences into these, but they would've been worth explicit exploration. This is what I'm referring to when I say in some ways the film is slightly unfulfilling, but this is ultimately a minor gripe.
Overall though, go see this one in theaters. It's a fun & thought provoking social satire that will be worth enjoying for years to come.

I've come to the conclusion that when a movie escapes development hell, one of two things is the usually the case:
Sometimes a movie fights and claws its way out, blasting demons the whole time and coming out stronger for the experience.
Other times it should've stayed there but the devil himself sent it up here as a way to torment us.
The funny thing about The Minecraft Movie is that Warner Bros has been in a somewhat unstable financial situation for a while now so this could legitimately kill them

So, About Deadpool and Wolverine,
Whereas this film is definitely hilarious, action-packed, and had my whole theater cheering in places, it is still never the less a modern Marvel movie.
The film opens rather strongly, with one of the most awesome and hilarious setpieces I've seen in a while. Honestly it's worth seeing it in theaters just for that opening sequence. And for a while, through the first two acts, the film is able to maintain a similar level of energy. The second act in particular was absolutely incredible, but I can't say more without leaning into spoiler territory.
I will say, however, once we get into the third act the quality of the writing drops drastically. It's like they knew exactly what they wanted for the beginning and middle but had no idea how to stick the landing. Additionally, for one of the villains in here, something happens at the end of Act 2 that really felt like it was a fitting place to leave them and focus on another villain, but instead about 5 minutes later there's a random change of heart where this interesting character begins leaning into clichéd villainy just for the hell of it. Because of this sudden change, the third act really just feels rushed and unplanned with very little build-up or tension. It would have been much better if they'd taken a different direction.
To put it bluntly, the first two acts are about everything you've come to expect from the first two Deadpool movies, but the third act is everything you've come to expect from the worst of Marvel's modern offerings. I'd recommend seeing it in theaters just for the atmosphere, but keep your final expectations low.
Rewatched it with my parents and it helped me put one thing into words about the third act (spoilers): Cassandra Nova never knows what's happening. From her perspective the Time Ripper just stops working and then blows up randomly
