RACHEL BERRY-EVANS
Being back at home might have been one of the best decisions she had made. Sure, it wasn’t always easy and there were times where all she could remember were the days they would fight but something was changing. Maybe it was purely based on the fact that they had been missing each other. You get used to someone and while the last few months were filled with tension, Sam and Rachel had been together longer than they had been arguing. Falling back into patterns was almost too easy and sometimes, she got the thought to run. That everything was going too well and things were going too good that something had to be up. There was a storm on the horizon or the shoe was about to drop. It wasn’t that Rachel had been loving getting to see him, be with him and be happy again. It was something that she had been longing for for months. It was just after everything that they had put each other through, she was still worried. Happy and content but cautious.Â
Going on a date seemed so silly, not that it was bad. It had been so long since they did something this. “It would be easier to dress if you told me exactly what we were doing instead of vague statements,” she called down the stairs as she zipped up her boots. Rachel paired a striped sweater and jeans before heading down the stairs. Her coat was by the front door and she would grab it on the way out. She had never been the biggest fan of cold weather, but this Winter had her finally getting used to it. Meeting Sam in the kitchen, she leaned over to kiss his cheek. “Hey there, handsome,” she greeted with a dazzling smile. This was another moment of hope, if they could get through things like this without all of their desires rearing their ugly heads out, maybe they could actually work out in the long run and god did she want that. “So, I am ready when you are.”
SAM EVANS
Hearing his wife call down from upstairs made Sam smile. It felt familiar. The house wasn't really a home when he was the only one living in it. When they'd finally started making decent money after moving to Boston, Sam had been ecstatic to start house-hunting. He'd fallen in love with their current home immediately, easily imagining their future children running around - a rambunctious little girl with her mother's dark hair and big brown eyes and a headstrong little boy just trying to keep up. While a lot of guys fantasized about dream jobs and dream cars and dream girls, Sam fantasized about having a family. He tried to push that particular fantasy away though because he knew it wasn't going to happen, at least not any time soon, and likely never in this house. It was a difficult dream to give up.Â
The sound of his wife's footsteps pulled him from his thoughts and as he looked to her he was reminded of why he was he was giving up on or at the very least postponing his dream. He had to in order to keep his dream girl and as much as Sam wanted to have a family, he knew he'd never want to have a family with anyone other than Rachel. "Hey there, beautiful." Before she could step away, he wrapped his arm around her waist to bring her closer to him so he could return her kiss on the cheek with a long kiss on the lips. Pulling back slowly, he gave her a smile. "I was born ready." He picked up the picnic basket he'd packed and walked with Rachel to the door, helping her into her coat before putting on his own, along with a beanie and scarf.Â
"So, I know it's cold, but I thought it'd be kind of cool if we went on a winter picnic," Sam revealed his plan as they walked out to his truck. He opened the door for his wife and helped her in before getting in himself and starting the truck. "It'll kind of be like the dates we went on when we were first getting together...when I'd selfishly drag you away from your studies and the stage to get you alone. We'd spend our night under the stars talking about everything we wanted for our futures and make plans on how to get it." Sam reached over and placed his hand over Rachel's and glanced away from the road to look at her. "I was hoping we could maybe do that tonight. You know, make new plans?"
