Zero Bag Fares To Be Announced Soon

You might have been advised hundreds of times to pack lightly to save on the baggage fees. The Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) granted permission to airlines to roll out zero bag fares in its recently issued circulation. Now, air travelers, who travel with light baggage, can book flights at cheaper costs on domestic routes. The DGCA circular, released back in the month of March, supported debundling of services. This means that flight tickets will include only basic fare and essential taxes. All the other services, such as meals or entertainment facilities can be selected as per the preference of passengers. However, the next circular issued in July, opposed the debundling after several complaints lodged by flyers.

With its recent issue, DGCA has once again tried to introduce changes in the existing pricing policies. As per experts, this step has potential to make flight tickets more affordable along with giving you an option to pay for the only required services. To make sure that travelers are not taking undue advantage of this scheme, airlines will be allowed to charge fine or penalties in case they turn up with check-in baggage at the airport after opting for zero bag fares.

The November Circular

Issued on November 8, 2015, this circular states that the government has decided to allow several services to be unbundled and offered on an opt-in basis. These services include meals or snack charges, check-in baggage charges, preferential seating and charges for using lounges. However, the highlight is the allowance of the zero bag fares. As mentioned earlier, failing to terms and condition of this scheme, a penalty can be imposed. Prior to this, the circular launched in March also supported such pricing practice. As per the DGCA officials, this was proposed to examine whether low-cost carriers (LCCs) pass on the benefit to flyers or not. Now, the announcement of zero-fare scheme suggests that domestic carriers passed the test.

Aviation experts are of the opinion that this scheme will prove to be a sigh of relief for business and frequent travelers, who often fly in and out of the city. These aircraft of the NEO (new engine option) family are conceived to save 20 per cent fuel burn per seat, compared to the current engine option (CEO) versions. They also come with an increased range, making them appropriate for intra-continental flights. The modern technology used in these machines ensures reduced engine noise and CO2 emissions. Airbus, the European aircraft manufacturer, has equipped these advanced jetliners with an increased number of exit doors.

A320neos make full use of state-of-the-art cabins, fixtures and seat designs. However, Airbus decided to retain its comfortable 18-inch wide seats that impressed all, who flew on the CEO version.
