ANALYSIS
Thinking of an idea to base my app around was probably the hardest part of the whole project. It was around this time when I recently purchased an iPhone with applications I could visit. Therefore, I wasn’t used to using them, it was a brand new thing for me. So thinking of what an app could be about was a little struggle for me. When I produced the idea about creating an application for the TFL, the project became easier, as I knew what direction I could head in.
Choosing the TFL was for me, a good decision as it is a brand that is largely distributed. As I tend to generally create designs for a smaller amount of people, it challenged me to research more, which I did gladly. I learnt that TFL are playful in their modern approach to design, which again worked in my benefit as I was looking for something modern to create to be within my portfolio.
My wide research helped me to learn a lot about the brand, and to familiarise myself with the designs they work with, the boundaries I couldn’t break and brand guidelines. I think I approached the project well, although I failed to produce a animated poster, I’m extremely happy with the outcome of my application video.
I know the idea about an oyster card application was a good idea, and would come in handy for a lot of people, so I was happy about that, although I did struggle a little about what additional features the app could have, this is the only part I think I could’ve improved. Although my design, layout and theme for the application was very successful. The colours I used, illustration, logo and layout were very on brand and adventurous. Even though before the project I only had little experience of AfterEffects, I felt I learnt a lot by the end, as I practised a lot and learnt a lot. My tutor also helped me and pushed me to develop the best result I could, so for that I’m thankful.
Overall, I’m very satisfied with the project even though I failed to produce a poster. But now I will have good video footage to add to my portfolio, and I will now know how to approach a project like this. I also hated modern design, and thought it was boring until this project, I thought it was very limiting. But i learnt that it can be what ever you want it to be, it can also be more adventurous than a painting.
