VIRTUAL REALITY
~The Green Green Hermit
Reach your hand out, just like that,
it’s just as though you’re there.
Give a little when they ask
then they’ll think you care.
Wear the T-shirt, sing the song
show you know whats right.
Show you know what’s going on,
and make-believe you’ll fight.
It’s only virtual reality
—————————————–
Take your protest to the street,
you’ll never walk alone.
Be careful where you put your feet
the street is someones home.
I gave 50p for a cup of tea and a blanket for the night,
I’m glad it’s them instead of me,
do you think they’ll be alright
Of course they will, it’s only virtual reality
——————————————–
Down the job shop to get a job,
there don’t seem much about.
Qualification?
that’s a laugh
Then I don’t hold much hope out.
But look at these opportunities, Three hundred quid a week
Mouth drops open, chin hits floor,
I’m far to shocked to speak
But it’s only virtual reality
————————————————-
Stephen Lawrence lost his life
not far from where I live.
Cut down as if he didn’t count
when he had so much to give.
Then the BNP win a council seat
with a campaign built on hate,
cashing in on people’s fears,
has it really got that late.
Is that the reality?
———————————————–
The TV flashes headline news
from all parts of the globe.
Baghdad, Kabul, Pakistan
All wearing deaths dark robe.
It’s because we’re right,
it’s for the good of god;
at least that’s what’s been said.
No matter what the reasons are,
you wind up just as dead.
That is the reality.
————————————
Virtual reality, an illusion,
you see what’s nearly there.
The homeless, the jobless, they’re real enough
but how much do we care.
The dead, the dying, they’re screaming out,
we haven’t heard them yet.
But when you take your blinkers off
What you see is what you get.
