As a Certified Fandom Old™, I have a message for all of you.
Write the thing.
Draw the thing.
Whatever your little heart desires, do the thing. There are no hard and fast rules when it comes to fandom, save for respecting each other's mutual spaces and boundaries -- and not forcing the creators or actors to interact with fandom where they do not want to do so (which is also a matter of respect).
Do you want to write that character getting absolutely railed? Do it, darling, that's something that you deserve. Be self-indulgent. Write that OC pegging your fave, or write that steamy one-shot.
Do you want to see your fave covered in blood and suffering? Go nuts. Here, I'll hand you the crowbar. Tag appropriately, watch the splatter. Clean up when you're done. Or don't.
Afraid it won't be good? Your first attempts are always going to be a little stuttery - that's what learning as you go does. Practice.
Do you NOT want to see those things? That's fair! Make sure you block and blacklist those tags when you see them, and curate your online space to suit your needs. Your kink is not their kink, and that's okay! That's what the block button is for. It's a secret tool that keeps our fandom experience enjoyable.
Pass it on, this is blanket permission to do whatever you need to do so long as you respect that others will do the same. Don't invite discourse by asking 'should I write the thing?' Write the thing. Tag it appropriately, then release it into the wild. You'll find your audience, and you'll be glad you did.
Don't wait for someone else to tell you it's okay. Listen to me. It's okay. Do it.
I look forward to seeing it.
