CASSIE
Cassie nodded sympathetically in response, more than able to RELATE to his symptoms. This place had odd effects on all of them, it seemed, drawing peopleâs worst instincts to the surface. Some had it worse than others; she could hear the wolves HOWLING in agony virtually every night. But even she could feel the strange pull of whatever this place was, causing her to snap at people she loved and her anger to flare up hotter than it ever had before.Â
âYeah, youâre right.â she conceded, unable to resist the urge to glance over her shoulder and confirm they were alone. Or, at the very least, that their predators were keeping a healthy distance from their prey. â⊠You know what they say. Safety in numbers.â Cassie offered with a shrug, pointing vaguely down the dark street. âI live that way, if you want to brave the rest of the walk TOGETHER.âÂ
Sam was MORE than happy to have an ally- even if it was just an ally for walking a couple of blocks down the road; he liked the idea of not being alone, even just for a little bit.Â
âThe more the merrier,â he said, flashing a quick- and, honestly? GRATEFUL smile. âDefinitely better than wandering around aimlessly for the rest of the night by myself. Sam- Iâm Sam, sorry.âÂ
