ok this is gonna be a long shot but does anyone have any examples of jigen and goemon being misogynistic/saying mean things about fujiko. like calling her a witch and stuff like that. am desperate so will put it in official tags

Hi i mostly have goemon stuff but:

depends on what you would consider misogynistic, but a few examples under the cut

So turns out you cant put videos on reblogs? but im sure you can find a bunch of Jigen being a misogynist in average Lupin clip videos (Misfortune towards Fujiko is a lupin fan staple)

So, there's this quote from Green Jacket from Goemon "Lupin you fiend! I heard from morning till night you fondled and groped that innocent woman's pure body!" (dub, obviously) which is playing into his madonna-whore complex.

Red Jacket Episode 4/The gold van one

Jigen was pretty bad here, "Admit it you were blinded by diamonds and you betrayed us! Just like a typical woman."

From Goemon "She belongs down there with the sharks" (Lupin helps Fujiko out of the water but she was in no immediate danger)

Also from Goemon "So Zenigata gets the gold, and we get the girl"

I just realized the Fujiko Mine show was written by a woman and the follow up thingies were all by a man and yeah that does explain a lot actually.

Cause I madly hate the episode where Zenigata gets with Fujiko but other than that it was an amazing series which was quiet, dark and subtle.

Gravestone has a lot of similar touches but also that one scene…. And yeah the spin off has nudity but it’s really one of the few if not the only times where the nudity in the franchise feels empowering to women rather than like fan service and is what Fujiko’s character should be about.

Like making the show feels bad realistic makes Lupin’s treatment of Fujiko feel way worse than when it was a Looney Tunes show.

The point of that episode is to demonstrate how the people around Fujiko treat her as nothing but an obstacle and a sexual object. Zenigata does both, he treats her as a way to get to Lupin because he knows Lupin is interested in her. She's an attractive woman who is sexually empowered (at this point of the story), and to the average person that just reads as " a slut who will fuck her way to the top." Fujiko doesn't care what he thinks of her, so she's okay with letting him (and everyone else) think that she's a whore.

I think what you're doing is fronting your disgust with how a character you like, that you see as pure and good, is being written in a way you don't like. This is a normal growing experience as a Lupin fan lol.

Also there are plenty of times especially during Red Jacket where Zenigata has targeted Fujiko to use as bait to capture Lupin. The tone in twcfm is more grounded, but its not that much different, Zenigata's perception of Fujiko hasn't really changed between twcfm and everything else (aside from when lupin has complete tonal shifts)

These were thoughts I had after rewatching that episode, they might be useful:

"I think this episode was about positioning Fujiko’s sex appeal against how the male leads and the audience see her. The first thing we see her do is sleep with Zenigata to get herself out of jail, and the rest of the episode affirms the "fujiko = sex object" through lupin, Zenigata, and Oscar (oscar starts calling her "spittoon" this episode)"

"This is so strongly reflected in how Zenigata feels like Fujiko's body is free access to him (he gropes her ass twice, and tries to put out his cigarette on her breast). He thinks of her as nothing more than a dirty sleeze who can be a useful sex doll to lure Lupin in, and Fujiko herself can be lured in with the prospect of jewellery."

"I think the ending of the episode reflects how wrong Zenigata and the audience are in that assessment of her, because Fujiko chooses to dine with Ayan, Darenzo, and Lupin after Ayan has thrown the priceless jewelled mask into the fire. She accepts their companionship in place of not getting a physical object."

"Whereas, Fujiko herself is discovering her limits and boundaries, what would *she* do for what she wants. When she finds out that Ayan burned her face to be with Darenzo, she's in shock because it makes her reflect about her attachments to others. Insofar she's *just* met Goemon so shes not in a real relationship with him yet, therefore can't imagine risking her beauty and fame (she specifically asks Ayan about why she wanted to leave the *spotlight*) for the chance to be with someone she loves unconditionally"
