Nazis will take over US congress this November, and it feels like I'm the only one that cares.

My "side" brushes it off as no big deal.

They keep telling me it "doesn't really matter".

Meanwhile I've been getting suicidal urges, PTSD nightmares, wanting to relapse.

I have panic/anxiety attacks, flashbacks, I've collapsed to the floor hyperventilating.

Again, Nazis will win control of congress this November.

Read that. Read that again.

And stop shrugging it off as nothing.

Top tip for would-be trans allies:

If you want to know our preferences regards something, ask us neutrally. Not in a way that makes clear your own assumption/preference.

In other words: ask for guidance, not permission.

Trans people—especially shortly after coming out—are very conscious of trying to make things easier for everyone around us, and may feel pressured to agree to something we don't actually find that agreeable, in order to not be a bother.

If you're struggling for phrasing, "what's your perspective on...", "how do you feel about...", "how would you prefer..." etc are good starters.

This was prompted by this other post that I didn't want to derail, as it applies to things besides backdating gender (e.g. the "always was" vs "used to be" camps), to include semantics that can be important to some people one way or the other (e.g. "is this the wrong body or not?"), or the acceptability of implicitly (mis)gendered terms (e.g. "but it's dude bro in a gender-neutral way, man!") in which matter opinions and personal comfort zones can differ wildly.

Note: this goes for non-binary folks too, regardless of presentation.
