Florence
(I was gonna use this story for a different HOL character, but i kinda like it too much to make it fanon. So i'm gonna apply it to Flo here.)
We don't have any super concrete evidence on the way that Gatlus worked, but for the purpose of his story, we're gonna say that it was kinda similar to Earth in how it handled queer people. Which is to say: after a while, people were more open to accepting queer people, but that it wasn't always that way.
Flo is a lesbian, but she had to hide that part of herself away for most of her life. She wouldn't normally get nervous around girls, but every now and then she'd get so hung up about one that she would become very standoffish and aggressive, if not downright avoidant, in attempts to push these people away. If they weren't around, then she couldn't crush on them, and she wouldn't have to worry about her secret getting out.
One of them wouldn't take that for an answer, though. Despite Flo's aggression, this girl kept coming back and offering her kindness. Kindness that Flo knew she didn't deserve. After much fear and frustration and fight, Flo eventually gave in. They softly started a relationship, and fell deeply in love.
This is Matilda, the girl she fell in love with:
(she's a sand blaster, based on a parrot fish)
They lived together for a while, and even though they couldn't officially get married, they considered each other their wife. They lived together, and had a few pets in lieu of having a family of their own. Things were good, and they were happy together.
That is, until the G3 invaded. They helped fight them off during the first invasion, but Matilda got very sick and died when they came back with that virus. Flo did everything she could to try to save her, but nothing worked. Flo used the heartbreak to fuel her rage and hatred of the G3, and she was able to save herself and a few other Gatlians.
She found the rest of the galaxy to be much more accepting of queer people than her home had been. It was a relief; it was freeing. But she had been hiding for so long that she couldn't always trust that it was so. Despite seeing others like herself around, she was still so scared of being outcast for being queer that she became reclusive, and she tried not to interact much with other people. She sometimes feels like she's worse off for ever having fallen in love in the first place, as she now has to live with the fact that her partner is gone forever.
She's not doing great. But she wants to help others the way that Matilda helped people. She knows she can never be as kind as she was, but if she's able to help even just a little bit, then she wants to.
A female, queer Reptile-Pyro-Gatling. <3
