a thing that irks me every time i see it in arcane s2 critique is when people say that the season needed more episodes to develop the plotlines. because while, yes, many of the plotlines WERE very underdeveloped, that is not the core of the problem. the season did not need MORE episodes, the season needed LESS plots. they added WAY too many completely new elements to the story that could & should have been completely cut, and/or replaced with other elements. the revolution & two cities conflict was the CENTRAL issue of the show, and should not have been sidelined for the arcane apocalypse. trying to artificially develop jinx through isha instead of with pre-established relationships like vi & ekko was a mistake. the black rose plotline took so much time to explain just about nothing, and ultimately added nothing to the season. into the ekkoverse, much as i love timebomb, was a massive waste of time. warwick vander being used as a way to force the sisters back together instead of focusing on their own character arcs & motivations & love for each other was bad. noxus as a huge invading entity ALONGSIDE the arcane apocalypse was DEFINITELY bad.

it always bugs me when people say the season needed MORE episodes to develop all these plots, because i feel like the issue isn't JUST the lack of development, it's that the plots are present to begin with. what made season 1 so compelling was how GROUNDED & intimate the story was, and turning it into this world-ending conflict on a multiverse-level scale was not a problem that could have been fixed by giving them More episodes.

media: yeah they're going too far, they're trying to overthrow the system and assassinate the nice cop trying to help them and also they burned down an orphanage

me: ...why? would they burn down an orphanage??

media: extremism is bad

me: still not seeing what this has to do with their fight though???

media: also now they've shot a dog. oops they shot another dog

me: what?! why? I though their motive was to overthrow oppression??

media: yes but their suffering has also made them evil

me: ...???

media: don't worry though, the good guys will defeat them and restore the status quo

me: the status quo that's been killing people?

media: well it turns out it was only killing the kinds of awful people who burn down orphanages and shoot dogs :)

me: oh. this is actually a pro-authoritarian story, isn't it?

media: nooo of course not don't be sillyyyyyy we're super progressive look one of the cops is a black lady don't be sillyyyyyy
