Honey and almond are pretty self-explanatory, as honey and nuts both figured heavily in Roman desserts. Cinnamon, meanwhile, means dead rich guy. It was insanely expensive to obtain, and the wealthiest of Romans used it to scent funeral pyres, so that the smell of burning cinnamon would cover the scent of cremation.

#people be saying things so definitively like (wo)man i think it depends #i absolutely think that most ppl who claim 'i would read wayyyyyyy more stories about women If Only They Were Well Written'#will pass over mediocre or even GOOD stories about women... for bad stories about men #like this sentiment is often accompanied by the notion that any female character who is not written Perfectly is poorly written #which is just. sexist double standards framed as if its for the benefit of women #THAT said i think people do not know the floor of how bad 'representation' can get #e.g. in some anime (usually shonen or seinen >.>) women are written as like less than one dimensional #like objects that exist to fulfill male sexual fantasies #and this is normalized in the industry (to an extent)#the most hateful sexist degrading stereotypes about women are 100% normalized in certain forms of media #and i specify anime because i think it has happened in every medium #but animation is particularly bad for it because you dont even have the tether of a real human woman actress #who has to somewhat recreate whatever degrading scenario in Real Life and can object in some capacity #and western animation has had somewhat of a Realization about this in recent decades #but such portrayals absolutely exist in western stuff too #anyway the best way i can explain it is that some of this stuff is 'less than ideal representation'#but some of it would be out and out considered along the lines of minstrelsy and offensive stereotyping media #if it were about a racially oppressed group rather than a sexualized one #and because misogyny is so normalized we frame it as 'poor writing' rather than identifying them as 'misogynistic caricatures'#which leads to the problems above because of the lack of specificity in identitying the issue #and i mean poor writing of female characters is an issue of course but not one best solved through simple lack of engagement #unlike the caricatures. which are important to understand but aren't necessarily something people want to be subjected to in their free tim #anyways i would rather watch the proud family (colorism and all) than a similar white sitcom with no black people #but i would rather watch a thousand all white sitcoms than sit my ass down to watch a minstrel cartoon for fun and pleasure #immediate followup because i forgot about western comics. similar medium diff history but like you can find some amazingly written women!#...and some who are less Characters and more the Authors Personal Blow Up Doll Fetish Fulfiller #sometimes you can see Both for the same character across diff writers/artists #and this is so so so fun and not at all frustrating to engage with as a woman and a woman appreciator #comics my belo(v/ath)ed
